Hebrew Roots,
The Four Waves & Their Roots
Some
Conclusions About
The Four
Waves & Tongues
Much
information has been covered since undertaking the writing of To
Embrace Hebrew Roots. My goal was to find out the
root and connections of Hebrew Roots/Hebraic Roots and the
Messianic Movement. That ultimately lead
into an investigation into what Dean Cozzens
called the Four
Movements, or waves as I've called them, those being:
1.The
Pentecostal Movement
2.The
Faith-Healing Movement
3.The
Charismatic Movement
4.The Hebrew
Movement..
While Cozzens
believes them to be moves of God, research reveals that they
are moves allowed by God to fulfill His purposes.
It has been shown how
each is interrelated to the other, through leadership,
organizations and acceptance of various beliefs and varied
acceptance of levels of manifestations. Since the Charismatic
movement was instigated to cause people to become used to and
hence, accept the Pentecostal manifestations, which
documentation shows are already accepted in paganism, the goal
appears to be to snare and keep people bound in these
manifestations of one form or another. Although
many people and ministries involved in one way or
another have been mentioned, this isn't about personalities. This is about
Biblical truth.
-
Ephesians
6:12: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places."
The problems
for acceptance of the various doctrines involved is being able
to move people from all spectrums-- particularly Evangelical--
into acceptance of mysticism and manifestations. Renovaré is
a good example of one of the avenues for how this is being
accomplished. Catholics already embraced mysticism and
manifestations, but for Evangelicals and Fundamentalists, they
were not so quick to accept what many believe at the very
least, to be Biblical disobedience.
As the facts have
revealed, those involved in the Hebrew Roots Movement are
mainly Charismatic/ Pentecostal, with many of those involved
actually being 'Gentiles,' not Jews. Many are being drawn,
often unknowingly, into the kabbalah and various other
occult teachings, lured into believing they are becoming more
spiritual.
We have
Biblical direction on this matter.

1 Timothy
3:15-16, 4:1-2: "But if I tarry long, that thou
mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the
house of God, which is the church of the living God, the
pillar and ground of the truth. And without controversy
great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the
flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up
into glory.
-
Now the
Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the
latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed
to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking
lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared
with a hot iron."
A
correspondence with one gentleman spoke of finding Jesus
Christ and leaving the Catholic system, then going into the
Pentecostal system and finally ending up in the Messianic
movement. He admitted that he had even gone to Israel to buy a
prayer shawl and shofar, believing that made him far more
spiritually correct.. After reading the articles To Embrace
Hebrew Roots, he realized the depth of deception and literally
fled the scene.
Much
of the emphasis of all these groups that we're being made
aware of is upon the gift of tongues which would normally
separate a fundamentalist from a charismatic. It's suggested
by some that rejection of tongues and the various
manifestations of these groups is a rejection of God's
miracles.
Our
God is a God of miracles. One thing has nothing to do with the
other. God performs miracles everyday. Look around at the sky,
the seasons, the animals, life itself. God heals and takes
people in His timing--those are also miracles. What we reject
is what this author has been writing about in these articles,
and that is, the occult and it's inroads into far too many
lives.
The
Pentecostal and Charismatic experience of tongues, acceptance
of which is the desired goal to bridge the gap between the
various religions, is a going away from the Holy Spirit
and listening to seducing spirits "...a
spirit which ye have not received...," with the gnostic
doctrine of direct revelation being a cornerstone of those
"doctrines of devils."
The
experience of tongues, often described as pleasurable during a
private prayer time, is the entrance or stepping stone into an
altered state of consciousness as described in "The
'god' in Every Man." It is mysticism.
One reader
commented, "... One of the key hallmarks of the luciferic
initiation that is setting in on the world and which will
prepare the world to worship the image of the beast is the
resignation to altered states of consciousness. The drug
culture made major inroads to American society to accept
doctrines of demons, phenomenal manifestations and their
leadings. But as all of the eastern mystics of the seventies
pointed out, drugs are only the entry. Once past the initial
portal, the mind, through the imagination and the will, become
the vehicle for "enlightenment."
Tongues and ecstatic
experiences put people into the SAME altered state as shamans
get into, in order to receive "visions,"
"higher knowledge," "prophecies" and such
from the demonic realm."

2
Corinthians 11:4 " For if he that cometh preacheth
another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if
ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or
another gospel, which ye have not accepted,
ye might well bear with him."
The Joel 2 prophecy was
fulfilled with Pentecost, as stated in Acts 2:16-18. The
teaching of this passage is what many pentecostals/ messianics/
charismatics are interpreting and taking upon themselves. They
also use 1 Corinthians 14 as part and parcel of this claim.
However, the "pouring
of my Spirit" must be understood in the context of the
whole chapter of Joel 2, in order for it to be applied
correctly.
Jesus said in John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
Joel 2 is a furtherance of
the warning being given to Israel about the Day of the Lord
and also the Day of Jacob's trouble. It was
specifically meant as a warning for unsaved Israel and all
those who have rejected Jesus Christ. Starting with verse one,
the chapter describes the nature of what is coming, including
the large army, where, "the earth shall tremble before
them."
"Blow a ram's
horn in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain; let
all the inhabitants of the land tremble. For the day of
Jehovah comes, for it is near at hand.."
There is a
consistent call for Israel to repent, even in the midst of all
the terrible things befalling all the people. Verses 12-13 "...turn
to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with
weeping, and with mourning...tear your heart and not your
robes.."
As
Christians we know that who the Scriptures refer to in
Zechariah 12:10, is Israel and any and all who have rejected
Jesus Christ.
-
Zechariah 12:10
"And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon
the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of
supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have
pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for
his only son, and shall be in bitterness for
him, as one that is in bitterness for his
firstborn."
We
are reminded that when Christ comes, he will be seen by all.
Revelation 1:7
" Behold, he
cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they
also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall
wail because of him. Even so, Amen."
Revelation 11:3 states God
will have had His "two witnesses" proclaiming
to Israel for three and a half years, where they will
eventually be killed and lie in the street of Jerusalem. The
gospel will have been proclaimed to "every nation and
kindred and tongue and people"
God will move against
Israel's enemies and intervene in that day. Joel 2:20 "I
will remove the northern army far from you.." That
"day" will become the time when Christ is again,
Joel 2:27, "...in the midst of Israel," when He is,
again, "[their] God". This is the time described in
Jeremiah 31:31-34 when God will have given Israel a "new
heart" when He has put His "law in their inward
parts" when He "will be their God, and they shall be
[His] people." In other words, this is after the
70th week is completed which is also described in Daniel. It
is at the end of the "Tribulation."
Peter proclaimed Acts
chapter 2:16-18 to be a fulfillment of the Joel 2 prophecy. Peter
was responding to his fellow Jews, who had gathered or lived
in Jerusalem, when he explained what was taking place at
Pentecost with the receiving of the Holy Spirit, "And
there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of
every nation under heaven."... Acts 2:9-14 "...we do
hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And
they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to
another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These
men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the
eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of
Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto
you, and hearken to my words:"
The "...that I will
pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh" was fulfilled at
Pentecost. "But this is that which was spoken by
the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last
days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all
flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall
prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your
old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on
my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit;
and they shall prophesy:"
Notice that Peter, by
revelation of the Holy Spirit, has stated that prophecy is
fulfilled by them receiving the Holy Spirit
The Holy
Spirit was poured out on all flesh at Pentecost so that those
who accept Jesus Christ will be sealed by Him, may be
Comforted and brought into all truth.
John
14:16-18, 26 (Jesus speaking to the apostles) "16 And I
will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth;
whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not,
neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with
you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I
will come to you."26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach
you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you."
-
Ephesians 4:30 "And
grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are
sealed unto the day of redemption."
It was an acknowledgment
that the Jewish believers that were speaking in tongues
**other languages*** and glorifying God were doing so because
they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and that fulfillment
also meant they would dream dreams and the old men would
prophesy, which many did. However, notice in verses
19-21 that Peter continues the prophecy, which we know
must happen before
Christ returns, when every knee shall bow.
"And I will show wonders in heaven above, and
signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of
smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon
into blood, before that great and notable day of the
Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall
call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Further, their
ministry--that of the apostles, those who had been with and
seen the truth of Jesus Christ and were called to proclaim the
gospel as true--was specifically commissioned with signs and
wonders so that many would see their ministries validated by
God.
-
Acts 2:43 "And fear
came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done
by the apostles."
-
Acts 14:3 "Long
time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord,
which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and
granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands."
-
Romans 15:19
"Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of
the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about
unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of
Christ."
-
2 Corinthians 12:12
"Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you
in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty
deeds."
-
Hebrews 2:1,3-4
"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to
the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should
let them slip... How shall we escape, if we
neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be
spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them
that heard him; God also bearing them
witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers
miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to
his own will?"
An apostle, and the
resulting validation by God was one, then, who had physically
seen and been with Jesus while He was on earth. It cannot
apply to any one else.
Acts 1:21 Wherefore of these men
which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us,
must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, show whether of these two thou hast chosen,
25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
We know any who call upon
Jesus Christ can be saved, but Israel, except for the election
of the remnant, specifically will remain blind until the time
of the Gentiles is complete. Again, at that time, a remnant
shall be saved. This matches with the continuation of the Joel
prophecy which is "afterward" Joel 2:30-32
"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth,
blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned
into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and
the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be
delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be
deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom
the LORD shall call."
-
Mark 13:23-26 (Jesus
speaking) "But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold
you all things. But in those days, after that
tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon
shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall
fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the
clouds with great power and glory.
-
Romans 11:5, 7
"Even so then at this present time also there is a
remnant according to the election of grace...What then?
Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the
election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded."
-
Romans 11:25-26 "
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of
this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits;
that blindness in part is happened to Israel , until
the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all
Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come
out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness
from Jacob:"
-
Luke 21:24-28 (Jesus
speaking) ".... and Jerusalem shall be trodden down
of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be
fulfilled. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in
the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of
nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after
those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers
of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the
Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up,
and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth
nigh."
The pouring
out of the Spirit in fulfillment of prophecy meant that the
Jews must accept that the Gentiles were also filled with the
Holy Spirit when they accepted Christ, and they, like what
took place at Pentecost with the Jews, spoke other tongues,
that is, other languages, to glorify God. Acts
10:45-46 "And they of the circumcision [Jews] which
believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because
that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy
Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues{,} and magnify
God. Then answered Peter,"
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians
14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe
not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
The Acts period written by
Luke is a transitional period and primarily for the Jews with
Gentiles still being "grafted into the olive tree."
But, chronologically, in Acts 28, Paul, the apostle
specifically for the Gentiles (and who is greatly despised and
discounted), turned from the Jews and went exclusively to the
Gentiles. The epistles written in time after that apply to the
mystery of Christ where there is neither Jew nor Gentile but,
all are one in Him.
It was possible during the Acts period for
the Jews to repent and many did, but most did not. The Lord knew
they would not (not could not), and He
revealed to Paul and to which the other apostles concurred,
that there would be a body of believers known as the
Body of Christ. This Body, comprised of Jews and Gentiles, were to be in Christ seated with Him far
above all, including the heavens, where He is at the Right
Hand of God. Satan despises this teaching and will do
everything to keep the truth from us.
The 70th week is yet to
come. It is the time of
the building of the Body of Christ, made up of Believers of Jesus Christ, both Jew and
Gentile. (Ephesians 2:11-18) It also the time of the
Gentiles, until the fulness is complete. Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that
blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
From Jeremiah 31:31-34 we
understand that Israel will be given a new heart.
Joel 2 and the unfulfilled
prophecy of the day of the
Lord's wrath, is for the end times of Daniel's 70 weeks.
Thus, the pouring out of the Holy Spirit , which resulted in
Israel's sons and daughters dreaming dreams, etc. happened
when Pentecost took place. It happened to those who accepted
Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
People of all nations will come to belong to Jesus
Christ. Those that desire tongues and who believe that
they are receiving and speaking a heavenly language, are
trying to have what God has purposed for after His wrath, that
being a "pure language" so that all may
magnify Him. This is discussed fully in "Pentecostal
Tongues & The Inner Ecstasy." If something is of
God, it will not contradict His Word.
-
James
1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from
above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with
whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Tongues should be thought of
as real languages...and Paul was very specific in that they
were for a witness to unbelievers.
1 Corinthians 14: "9
So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to
be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye
shall speak into the air.
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in
the world, and none of them is without signification.
11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I
shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that
speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of
spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of
the church. 13
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray
that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit
prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I
will pray with the understanding >>> you
have to understand what is being said too, or it is
unedifying for you as well
16 Else when thou
shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the
room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks,
seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17
For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not
edified. >>> v12 seek that ye may excel to
the edifying of the church.
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues [languages]
more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words
with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others
also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. [language]
21 In the law it is
written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I
speak unto this people; [declare the things of God
in their languages] and yet for all that will they not
hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues [languages] are for a
sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe
not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not,
but for them which believe.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into
one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in
those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say
that ye are mad? 27
If any man speak in an unknown tongue [language], let
it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course;
and let one interpret.----rule, ex. --if someone spoke Chinese,
there must be someone to interpret in a group of English
speaking people or they were not to speak, again, no
"private prayer language" --no praying together
and someone babbling some incoherent sounds which they don't
even understand, nor know if it's an actual language...because
that goes against all the rules Paul wrote about languages...including
praying with understanding.
28 But if there be
no interpreter [for the different language], let him
keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself,
and to God.
- God is not an author of
contradictions. The Jews required a sign, and
understanding that the Gentiles also received the Holy
Spirit, and that was shown by their declaring the things
of God through various languages...that is why the record
of Acts showed the use of tongues...except not once do you
see "private prayer language" which goes totally
above the use of languages as outlined by Paul. If you
don't know what is said, you don't know whether you are
praising or cursing God. It's that simple.
Paul said he would NOT pray
without understanding what he himself said/prayed...
14 For [if] I pray in an unknown tongue [language], my spirit prays, but
MY understanding is unfruitful. [he didn't say he did pray in an unknown tongue--he said IF he were to pray in an unknown tongue...he would be unedified.]
To pray in words not understood is to have "your understanding
unfruitful"---so you are not Biblically getting anything out of it--even if you think you are.
unfruitful <akarpos> akarpov akarpos, ak'-ar-pos
from 1 (as a negative particle) and 2590; barren (literally or figuratively):--without fruit, unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I WILL pray with the spirit, and I WILL pray with the understanding
> >>> you have to understand what is being said too, or it is unedifying for you as well...meaning you cannot pray with words that make no sense to you.Paul said he would be self edified by praying in words that he would understand. Otherwise , if he could not understand what he himself said, he was not edified.
Praying with understanding> "with the understanding" <nous>
3563. nouv nous, nooce
Search for 3563 in KJV
probably from the base of 1097; the intellect, i.e. mind (divine or human; in thought, feeling, or will); by implication, meaning:--mind, understanding. Compare 5590.
1097. ginwskw ginosko, ghin-oce'-ko
a prolonged form of a primary verb; to "know" (absolutely) in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as follow, with others not thus clearly expressed):--allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) know(-ledge), perceived, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.
In other words, praying without understanding what you are saying, is Biblically disobedient. Paul many times used the qualifier "IF" he were to do something, to provide the example and then show what was the right way or the proper and Biblical behavior, doctrine or example.
If someone speaks a language no one else knows...they speak only to God, only because no one else is understanding what is said.
1 Cor. 14:4 is the cruncher, because the point Paul was making was that
we as Believers are to desire to edify the Body of Christ. IN fact all Gifts of the Holy Spirit were for that purpose. So it became an issue of the speaking
words [another language] no one else understands does not edify the Body...that is why in verse 12 he said...12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts,
seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
We're to be servants of others...and edify one another. Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
1 Cor 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.
1 Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than
he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may
receive edifying.
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
There is something much more grievous than speaking in tongues
which is either being glossed over or ignored by many. In the following quote,
New age writer Jeremy
Rifkin explains three Charismatic beliefs or factors that need
to be addressed.
"The
"Baptism of the Holy Spirit" has provided a common
experience which has crossed all doctrinal lines, tearing
down in it's path long-held religious superstitions,
prejudices and defenses. In
this sense, the Charismatic movement has already shown
itself to be a "potentially" powerful force in the
renewal of Christian faith and the reformulation of
Christian doctrine...."
"Although
Charismatics are evangelical, they differ in one major
respect from mainline protestant evangelicalism.
Charismatics believe that the Word of God speaks
authoritatively to Christian believers not only through the
written word of the Bible, but also through the continuing
indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The revealed Word of God,
then , is potentially available to all who have received
what the Charismatics call the second Baptism of the Holy
Spirit...While they accept the Bible as the authoritative
Word of God, they believe that the revealed word , as
communicated to the apostles and Bible writers, is also
potentially available to people throughout history who have
received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the special
gifts that manifest God's personal presence. Many of the
younger evangelicals share the Charismatic's belief that God
speaks just as authoritatively through the Holy Spirit as
the written word of the scriptures. This new emphasis on
ongoing Divine revelation and outward observable
manifestations of the presence of the Holy Spirit has
brought together Christians who otherwise might never have
come together because of a long history of doctrinal
differences regarding interpretation and meaning of the
Scriptures." p. 179-180, Jeremy Rifkin with Ted Howard;
The Emerging Order: God in the Age of Scarcity; New York,
G.P. Putnam's Sons; 1979
Rifkin
has brought our attention to the three issues, which must be
carefully understood.
1.
The "second baptism" of the Holy Spirit which
we have mentioned previously. Those that desire this,
including Pentecostals and Charismatics, are denying the
completeness of the finished work of salvation. Salvation
includes the acceptance of Jesus Christ and thereby involves
the receiving of the Holy Spirit at that moment. That means by
seeking a "second Baptism" of the Holy Spirit, the
adherents are acting in unbelief towards that receiving of the
Holy Spirit and actually are rejecting Scriptures such as
Ephesians
1:12-14 " That we should be to the praise of his
glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your
salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were
sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the
earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the
purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."
1 Cor. 12:13
"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body,
whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free;
and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."
Ephesians
4:4-6 "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye
are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one
faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is
above all, and through all, and in you all."
2 Timothy
1:14 " That good thing which was committed unto thee
keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us."
They are then
desiring to "... receive another spirit, which ye
have not received, or another gospel,
2.
Direct revelation. Direct
revelation gives the opportunity of adding to Scripture, which
God clearly warns against in the book of Revelation 22:18 -19.
"For I
testify unto every man that heareth the words of the
prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these
things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written
in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words
of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part
out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from
the things which are written in this book."
It
is unbelief towards the closed canon of the Word of God and
places experience, manifestations and very often feeling over
the truth in the written Word of God.
3.
The Reformulation of doctrine. To reformulate means to
change for the better or correct--which means that those who
adhere to these teachings do not believe God's Word to be true
in it's literal sense, although many might make that claim.
The reason Biblical doctrine has to be reformulated is that it
has to agree with the "new" direct revelations.
How
can one reformulate or give new meaning unless one is
accessing extra-biblical sources to impose new doctrine rather
than applying what God has said in His written Word? What
difference is there then, to extra-biblical revelation and
divination?
-
1 Tim. 4:1
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the
latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"
-
2 Tim 4:3-4 "For
the time will come when they will not endure sound
doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to
themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall
turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned
unto fables."
The
"truth" is the Word of God.
Many in "Christian"
leadership, having endorsed Pentecostalism and it's subsequent
branches since the 1940's, have also declared the falling away
and deadness in many other denominations. Having taken an
in-depth look at the documented history of the Charismatic
movement and also the Pentecostal
roots in the previous articles, it's fair to say that there was
Biblical disobedience and error on the heads of many in
leadership in entering into or endorsing those movements and
for those who blindly followed that leading, not just in the
last century. Disobedience and a following after
manifestations took place not only in the New Testament, but
in the Old. Human nature does not change over the years.
People still wish to disobey God, reject Jesus Christ as Lord
and Saviour, and ultimately, desire to "be god."
There are none
that can use the excuse that someone else made them
disobedient. Jesus said His sheep will hear His voice and
follow Him.
James 13-15
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of
God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth
he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away
of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived,
it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished,
bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren."
2 Peter
1:3-10 " According as his divine power hath given unto
us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through
the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and
virtue:
Whereby are
given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by
these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having
escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside
this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue;
and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to
temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to
godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness
charity.
For if these
things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall
neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is
blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he
was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather,
brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election
sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never
fall:"
Galatians 6:1
"Brethren, if a man be overtaken with a fault, ye which
are spiritual, restore such an one with meekness;
considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."
We know the
Body of Christ will always remain a part of Him, it has never
ceased to exist. Those who call the Body of Christ corrupt are
wrong and are blaspheming God. Why? Because the Body is
Christ's and they are saying that what is Christ's is corrupt.
-
Galatians
3:27 "For as many of you as have been baptized into
Christ have put on Christ."
-
Ephesians
2:18-22 "For through him we both have access by one
Spirit unto the Father.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but
fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of
God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner
stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye
also are builded together for an habitation of God through
the Spirit."
-
I Peter
1:23.25 "Being born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which
liveth and abideth for ever... But the word of the
Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the
gospel is preached unto you."
-
I Peter 2:
5-7 "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a
spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual
sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore
also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you
therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them
which be disobedient, the stone which the builders
disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And
a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them
which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto
also they were appointed."
The 'deadness'
in any given church is not of those who are being obedient and
picking up their cross and following Christ daily. If a church
is 'spiritually dead' it is because of rejection of Jesus
Christ. They are not, nor have they necessarily ever been,
Believers as Jesus explained in the Parable of the Sower. Many
are serving another gospel. Many choose to walk by sight,
desiring signs and wonders, rather than walking by faith.
The real connectors to all the various groups, both pagan and
"Christian," are mysticism and
manifestations-especially tongues.
1 Timothy
4:1-2 "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the
latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed
to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies
in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot
iron."
Hebrews
11:1,3 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. Through faith we understand
that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the
things which are seen were not made of things which do
appear."
Hebrews
10:38-39 " Now the just shall live by faith: but
if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of
them that believe to the saving of the soul."
2 Corinthians
5:7 "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Romans 1:17
" For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from
faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by
faith."
The subsequent action
is then, trying to snare all Believers. Satan would have all
deceived. Already being seduced into error are the
people embracing such things as Promise Keepers, those who are
followers of men (Graham, Colson, Dobson, etc.) instead of
obedience to the Word of God and so on.
2 Timothy
3:1-5,7 "This know also, that in the last days perilous
times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own
selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient
to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection,
trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady,
highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:
from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep
into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins,
led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to
come to the knowledge of the truth."
People who love
the Lord Jesus Christ will either be snared or recognize the
deceptions and flee.
1 John 2: 3-6
" And hereby do we know that we know him, if we keep
his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not
his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God
perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith
he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he
walked."
Who could
dispute the facts that many in leadership are in error when
being presented with a person's own words, associations and
even blatant compromises.
Hebrews 5: 14
"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full
age, even those who be reason of use have their senses
exercised to discern both good and evil."
We need to be willing to put all to the test of the Word of
God and stand on that Truth.
1
Timothy 4:16
"Take
heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them:
for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them
that hear thee."
-
2 Timothy
2: 24-26
-
"And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle
unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness
instructing those that oppose themselves; if God
peradventure will give them repentance to acknowledging of
the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the
snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his
will."
Please
understand the significance of the roots and connections in
these reports. The root of Believers must be in Jesus
Christ and the Word of God. Neither has roots in the occult.
The occult root is a separate system, of which all the
movements or waves we've been discussing have invariably come
from or been leavened with. The Gnosis and false teachings
have been used to try to corrupt Christianity from the inside
out, meaning the physical church and individuals. Christ
is not and cannot be corrupted.
The purpose for
the embracement of these corrupt teachings is taught in the
Scriptures. Many of those who are embracing the false
teachings have known the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Parable
of the Sower, which Jesus explained, shows us why people would
turn their backs on Him. The reality is that in order to turn
away, one must first have embraced the truth. That turning or
falling away can only be what is meant, and which we are
warned about in 2 Thessalonians
2:3
-
"Let
no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not
come, except there come a falling away first, and that man
of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"
- John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
- If building on anything
but Jesus Christ and His Truth, we have erred from the
faith.
1 Corinthians
3:-9-11
"For we
are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye
are God's building. According to the grace of God which is
given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the
foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man
take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which
is Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 1:
"Grace
and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of
God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power
hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us
to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious
promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to
your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge
temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to
brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you,
and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren
nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see
afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old
sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your
calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye
shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered
unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent
to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye
know them, and be established in the present truth."
