A Closer Look at David
& Don Hargis
Revelation 3:9
Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
The De
Cordova Line
Don and David Hargis both claim
the De Cordova name in
their roots, although Don is the one who uses that alternate
name. On the 2003 MBI page about David Hargis we read of the
connection.
Our
Administrator
-
Rav
Dr. David M. Hargis
is President and General Overseer of Messianic Bureau
International and Messianic Bible Institute-Yeshiva. He
is also the main policy and doctrinal writer, and
spokesman for MBI....
-
Rabbi
Hargis was 52 in August 2001 and has 32 years of
ministry experience as a full-time servant/leader. He
was ordained in 1973 and pastored four churches before
leaving classical Christianity in 1989 to practice
Messianic Judaism and accept ordination as a Messianic
Jewish Rabbi...
-
His
grandmother (Cordova) was a Sephardic Jew from Spain and
her husband, his grandfather, was an Ukrainian Jew. A
second cousins grandfather, Avraham Hargis, was an
Orthodox Jewish Rebbe. The origin of Hargis, concerning
his clan, is Yiddish taken from the Hebrew har-gil,
meaning "mountain of rejoicing;" and there is
some legendary belief that it is Levite, or even Kohen..."
http://www.messianicbureau.org/intro.htm
On David Hargis's 1996 and
1998 resume, he states,
Geneological Background
Grandfather (father's
side): Askenazi Jew (Ukraine)
Grandmother (father's
side): Sephardic Jew (Spain)
Grandfather (mother's
side): Origin unknown / Methodist minister, then
Assemblies of God minister
Grandmother (mother's
side): English, possibly Jewish origin
messianic.com/yeshiva/dmh-resm.htm
The Hargis claim of being
Jewish is through their paternal grandmother and grandfather.
The claim is
that the paternal grandmother had the Sephardic Jewish name of Cordova.
They also claim that David qualifies as a rabbi through a
second cousins grandfather....That would be like saying you
have Irish heritage because you married someone who had second
cousin's who married someone who was Irish.
While looking for the
International Seminary and Bible College online, which will be
discussed later, this
article was found. Called, "RON's
rabbi off topic and humorous, but long," it shows that
David Hargis pastored four AOG churches, not simply
"churches" as shown in his MBI biography. The article also addresses
the Jewish claims of the Hargis clan.
Sat, 01 Aug 1998 ...
"....Ron was trying to show me some of many rabbis
that believe that there can be Christian Jews. He referred me
to: http://www.messianic.com/
Which is the web site of Messianic Bureau International. It is
according to it's own FAQ an international mission to bring
Jews to Jesus. It states, "Membership is offered equally
to Jewish and non-Jewish believers, as one Body of Messiah and
one blessing for Israel." So mere membership in this
organization does not indicated that the member is of Jewish
heritage... The MSB as it calls itself does list it's board
of directors which is enlightening to say the least...
Board of Directors:
David M. Hargis, PhD (President and Chairman)
David Aronowitz, Master Chief-US Navy
Michael Humphrey, Esq, Rabbi-Beth Messiah of Canton,
OH
Don Doherty, BMs, Shammash-Mishkan HaMelech of Hampton
Roads, VA
Lorne Greene, California
Linda C. Hargis, MEd, Registrar-Regent University (Vice
President)
Jane Greene, California
Ellen Campbell, Director-Crisis Pregnancy Centers of
Tidewater
Joanna Nelson, Virginia Beach, VA (Secretary-
Treasurer)
I would venture to guess from the addresses and from the
vice president of Regents University on the board that this is
a Pat Robertson organization. If you dig through the bull you
can get to this on the founder, president, and chairman.
Our Administrator:
Rabbi Dr. David M. Hargis is president of Messianic Bureau
International and Messianic Bible Institute-Yeshiva. ... He
was ordained in 1973 and pastored four churches for the
Assemblies of God before resigning in 1989 to accept
ordination as a Messianic Jewish Rabbi. ...
Now this is a claim to be a rabbi. His second
cousin's grandfather was a rebbe, therefore he's a rabbi. He
is not Jewish and even though he may call himself a rabbi he
is not a rabbi in a Jewish sense, since he was not ordain as
this by ordained rabbis of a recognized Yeshiva.
This guy is terribly ignorant of Jewish history. The
Sephardic Jews did/do speak a combination of Spanish and
Hebrew called Ladino, and therefore are sometimes called,
"Spanish Jews", but the Jews were thrown out of
Spain in 1492, and there have been very few Jews in Spain
since then.
It is highly unlikely if there were any Jews in Fascist
Spain, so unless his granny was very old, like 500 years old,
she was a not a Sephardic Jew from Spain. He was probably told
some times that she was a "Spanish" Jew and at other
times that she was a "Sephardic Jew" and doesn't
know enough to know that it just two ways of saying the same
thing.
All his religious training was as a "A of G"
minister. He took some Hebrew courses at the local synagogue.
I bet the synagogue didn't know why he wanted to study Hebrew.
Now, this liar and fake has started his own Yeshiva.
It claims we should enroll because it's, "It is the
only college-level Messianic correspondence school in the
world!"
Now there will have a bunch of fake rabbis running around
claiming to have attended an accredited Yeshiva. Of course, it
not Jewish and they are not rabbis in any Jewish sense of the
word. Remember a rabbi is supposed to be an expert in teaching
the Talmud which is written in Hebrew. Here is a list of the
faculty at this "Yeshiva". I can't see anyone that
reasonable qualified to teach Hebrew or the Talmud, can you?
("Rabbi" David above, apparently teaches Hebrew,
remember he took a course in Hebrew at the local synagogue.) I
also can't find anyone who is actually Jewish. Certainly all
of the folks listed below who have religious training seem to
have been trained in only in some brand of fundy
Christianity:...
HELEN: Ron, Please try again. I asked you to find five
properly accredited Jewish rabbis or even five honest to God
Jews that agree with the claim that Jews could convert to
Christianity and remain Jewish. This stuff you posted is total
crap...."

A Closer
look at David Mel Hargis
1 Timothy
4:1-6
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
David M. Hargis
pastored four Assembly of God churches before resigning in
1989, when he decided to become a messianic. He
became an "Ordained Messianic Jewish
Rabbi" in 1991. From the MBI faculty biography on him:
David M.
Hargis,
Ph.D. President of the Yeshiva / Professor of Hebrew
and Theology / Bachelor of Arts in Bible: Central
Bible College / Master of Theology: Lael University
/ Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Communications:
International Seminary and Bible College (closed) / Ordained
to ministry 1973, Ordained Messianic Jewish Rabbi 1991 /
President of Messianic Bureau International.
David
Hargis is found on the Faculty page of Saint John
Chrysostom Theological Seminary, which issued James Trimm's
doctorate.
From
the Saint John, "The Seminary Faculty" page, as of June
12, 2003:
Rabbi David Mel Hargis
Professor of Rabbinical Studies
Ph.D., Biblical
Communications: International Seminary and Bible College
(closed)
Th.M., Lael University
B.A., Bible, Central Bible College
Ordained to ministry 1973
Ordained Messianic Jewish Rabbi 1991
President of Messianic Bureau International
http://saintjohnchrysostomtheological.netfirms.com/satsfaculty.html
He is also listed on
their Theological Faculty page, along with his deceased
mother, as part of "Current" faculty of the
"Erasmus College of Fellows" :
Erasmus College of
Fellows

http://saintjohnchrysostomtheological.netfirms.com/faculty.html
David Hargis did receive a
Bachelors in Bible from Central Bible College in Missouri, on May 27th, 1971. Steve Levicoff noted
that Central Bible College was affiliated with the Assemblies
of God and was actually accredited.
CENTRAL BIBLE COLLEGE
3000 North Grant Street
Springfield, Missouri 65803
(417) 833-2551
Affiliated with the
Assemblies of God, Central offers courses in Bible and
theology, science, and social studies, as well as Christian
education and pastoral ministries. Courses utilize textbooks
only; there are no taped supplements. Accreditation: AABC. http://levicoff.tripod.com/nifi/nifi-7.htm
David Hargis's doctorate claim
obtained from International Seminary and Bible College poses a
problem. There is no record of an "International Seminary and Bible College,"
but there is currently online an International Bible College and
Seminary. http://www.ibcsnet.com/,
which has no faculty, and has the earmarks of diploma mill
stamped all over it.
Steve Levicoff
noted that many times when diploma
mills are caught, they will simply alter their name slightly, reverse the order of part of the
name, and reinvent their presentation. He also mentions
that individuals will give the name of an organization that they
supposedly got their education from, altering the
name, so that you won't be able to locate their
actual academic credentials or lack thereof.
That appears to
be precisely what took place with David Hargis. According to
his 1996 MBI Yeshiva Resume, in which his Masters and
Doctorate have changed information, the Seminary name has also been
switched:
1996
"Rabbi
Hargis is 47 and has over 25 years of ministry experience as
a full-time servant/leader. He was ordained in 1973 and
pastored four churches for the Assemblies of God before
resigning in 1989 to become a Messianic Rabbi. He is the
founder and Senior Rabbi of Mishkan HaMelekh (Tabernacle of
the King) in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area of Virginia. He
holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Lael University
(Kirkwood, MO) and a PhD in Biblical
Communications from International Bible College and Seminary
(DeSoto, MO)...."
messianic.com/yeshiva/dmh-resm.htm
*****
He listed on the actual 1996
Resume, " Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical
Communications / Years Attended (1986-87) International
Bible College and Seminary / DeSoto, Missouri, Set up
entire academic curriculum and courses of study for Biblical
Communications degrees."
But we see in David's 1998
resume----
David Hargis----Bachelor of
Arts in Bible: Central Bible College, Master of Theology:
Lael University, Doctor of Philosophy
in Biblical Communications: International Seminary and Bible
College / Twenty-seven years of ministry, Six years
of Messianic ministry, Ordained Senior Rabbi with Mishkan
HaMelech
messianic.com/yeshiva/dmh-resm.htm
Also in 1998, a slightly
different version from Messianic Bureau International,
messianic.com---"Dr. Hargis is the founder,
under-shepherd and rabbi of Mishkan HaMelech (Tabernacle of
the King) in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area of Virginia. He
holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Lael University
(Kirkwood, MO) and a Phd. in Biblical Communications from
International
Bible College and Seminary (DeSoto, MO). His Hebrew
studies, besides seminary, were taken at Temple Israel
Conservative Synagogue of Norfolk, Virginia and the Jewish
Community Center of Norfolk, Virginia."
In the 2003, Introduction to
MBI, "David holds a Master of Arts
in Theology and a PhD in
Biblical Communications. ..."
A closer look shows:
1996---PhD in Biblical
Communications from International
Bible College and Seminary (DeSoto, MO).
1998---Doctor of
Philosophy in Biblical Communications: International
Seminary and Bible College
Notice how Seminary and
Bible are now reversed. From Levicoff's
book:
INTERNATIONAL BIBLE COLLEGE AND SEMINARY
1301 South Noland Road
Independence, Missouri 64055
(816) 461-3633
Claiming accreditation by
the Accrediting Commission International, this school
lists over thirty-three different degrees (including
twelve different master's degree titles), more than any
legitimate school would list. No faculty credentials are
listed in their catalog, though Dr. George Reuter, founder
of the International Accrediting Commission who was
convicted of running a fraudulent accrediting agency (see
Chapter 4), is listed as a member of their advisory board.
In 1992, Reuter was appointed president of the school,
carrying on a grand tradition in questionable education.
Advertises or has advertised in Christianity Today
and Pulpit Helps"
http://levicoff.tripod.com/nifi/nifi-12.htm
Chapter 4:
"....a
school probably is a degree mill if it is
unaccredited by a legitimate agency but purports to be
accredited by an agency that is not recognized by
the U.S. Department of Education or CORPA. In the same way
that there are degree mills, for example, there are also
accreditation mills.
....Eastern
Missouri Business College was, in fact, part of a sting
operation designed to expose accreditation and degree
mills operating in Missouri. With the establishment of the
school, state Attorney General William L. Webster said,
"The college handbook we fabricated was purposely
made to be so outrageous that even a minimal review would
have raised serious questions about the school's
authenticity."[1]
The result? Dr.
George S. Reuter, Jr., founder and president of the
International Accrediting Commission, visited the
college's one-room "campus" for a review.
According to Assistant Attorney General Vieth, "We
rented an office for a day. We got some office furniture -
about four or five desks. We even had a faculty meeting so
everybody could get their stories straight for the
accrediting interview. But it wasn't necessary; he didn't
ask any questions. Reuter didn't ask to see our financial
records or our student records."[2]
Reuter, who
holds a traditional doctorate in education from the
University of Missouri, was slapped with a $15,000 fine
and an injunction that enjoined the International
Accrediting Commission from further operations. Reuter
decided not to fight the fine or the injunction, as he was
about to retire and close the agency anyway. (However, in
1992, Reuter was named president of International Bible
College and Seminary in Independence, Missouri, a degree
mill listed in Chapter 12.)
End of story?
Not at all. After Reuter retired, he transferred his
agency to John Scheel, who crossed the state line to
Beebe, Arkansas, and began operations under a new name,
Accrediting Commission International for Schools,
Colleges, and Theological Seminaries. The
"commission" continues to accredit degree mills
throughout the nation, many of which falsely purport to be
legitimate Christian schools..."
"....Accreditation
mills have only one purpose: to communicate an air of
credibility to degree mills..."
http://levicoff.tripod.com/nifi/nifi-4.htm
In
order for David Hargis to have "Set
up entire academic curriculum and courses of study for
Biblical Communications degrees" at International
Bible College and Seminary / DeSoto, Missouri," in
1986-1987, he was part of this
totally unaccredited
organization. It means he gave himself his own Doctorate
in Biblical Communications. It also means he was one of the
"staff" of this degree mill that was dispensing the
worthless degrees, very
clearly showing a pattern of activities.
Where Levicoff
stated, "However, in 1992, Reuter was named president of
International Bible College and Seminary in Independence,
Missouri, a degree mill listed in Chapter 12",
Independence is
the city address for
International Bible College and Seminary, http://www.ibcsnet.com/,
which this author mentioned above.
As stated in
the previous article, Miryam (1981), David (1980-82) , and
Linda(1982) all state they obtained Masters and/or Doctorates from Lael
University.
According to Steve Levicoff, again from his book Name It and
Frame It, Lael is also a diploma mill, and prior to
1992, was in a strip mall.
LAEL COLLEGE & GRADUATE SCHOOL
3721 St. Bridget Lane
St. Ann, Missouri 63074
(314) 426-7000
Formerly claiming accreditation by the unrecognized
Accrediting Commission International, this school
advertises degrees from the associate's through doctoral
levels. Formerly located in a small strip shopping center
next to a locksmith and an insurance agency (truly making
them a "store-front university"), they claim
that you can, "Study to become a biblical counselor,
a licensed pastoral counselor, or a ordained
minister." What they don't tell you is pastoral
counseling is largely unregulated by the government and
that you don't need a license to be a pastoral counselor.
They state up front, "Most courses can be completed
in a few days. Send the answers in, we will mark your
papers and mail your grade back to you." This, of
course, would never be acceptable to a legitimate
accreditor since the exams are not proctored. Bottom line:
their degrees are worthless.
In September 1992, Lael was
granted candidacy status by the Transnational Association
of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS); the school used
to be called Lael
University, but recently changed their name to Lael
College & Graduate School, perhaps because they
were required to do so by TRACS. In a new catalog that is
photocopied and stapled and, for the first time, does not
mention any accreditation with the Accrediting Commission
International, Lael also offers both masters and
doctorates in "psychological services," but they
do not mention that their degrees will not qualify a
person for licensure as a psychologist. Their faculty
listings indicate only three full-time faculty and ten
part-timers; for an allegedly comprehensive university
granting degrees at the bachelor's through doctoral
levels, this is absurd. Despite their continuing
recognition by TRACS (which of course, doesn't say too
much for TRACS), I'll go on the line here: they're still a
degree mill. Advertises or has advertised in Pulpit
Helps.

One can
view the Timeline of the degrees and activities of David
and Don Hargis at: Hargis
Timelines
Donald
Doherty has been involved with the faculty and administration of David Hargis's
MBI Yeshiva for several years.
And he co-hosts MBI's radio and chat with David Hargis,
has been a trustee for MBI Yeshiva and so on.
We
see that David Hargis wrote
'curriculum' for various diploma mills, operated at least 2 diploma mills, gave
himself his own doctorate; he and his mother and wife obtained their
various degrees via diploma mills, etc. And David Hargis was on the current faculty
of Saint John Chrysostom
Theological Seminary with his brother Don Hargis aka Bishop Don De Cordova
and other variations, and also with their deceased mother as faculty.
Not only
were all three listed as faculty on that facade, but also on their defunct diploma mill called
Mountain West Hebrew University, mentioned previously. Their
involvement in Saint John's goes back to at least 1991, when Don Hargis aka Don
de Cordova, David and their mother, Marian Hargis were
apparently listed in the supposed 1991 Handbook of the Seminary. That
information was supplied by James Trimm.
1991 was when David Hargis was
supposedly ordained a Messianic Rabbi and also started leading the Mishkan
HaMelech assembly. Which certainly brings
into question how a former AOG pastor could turn Messianic rabbi who provided
himself with his own doctorate, while at the same time being involved in a Catholic
seminary.

Don Hargis did in fact
obtain a Bachelors from Southern Methodist University in 1976.
However, it was not a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative and Historical
Religions and Linguistics, as he falsely claims. It was simply
a degree in Religion. According to Southern Methodist
University, Don Hargis contacted them and said he legally
changed his name, and his file was flagged accordingly. Don Bryant Hargis
supposedly changed his name to Don Bryant De
Cordova, yet continues to use both names or variations of
them.
Here are the questions. If someone legally changes their
name, can they legally continue to use their prior name? Can
they
also apply variations of the new name? And also use varied credentials to
variations of the new name? Can they still use their old name
with worthless credentials even though it is no longer their legal name?
Don Hargis stated in 2003 that he has
been the Director with the Aramaic
Bible Society for over twenty years, and his alter, Bishop Don de Cordova is also the
Editor of
the Aramaic Journal for the Aramaic Bible Society. (http://www.aramaic.org/SEMINAR.html)

Don Hargis claims that
he obtained a Master
of Theology from National Christian University, which used to
be located in Texas. Steve Levicoff's Name
It and Frame It, reveals information on the diploma mill, National Christian
University, when it had been located in Texas, not
Missouri.
NATIONAL CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
1620 Pinn Road
San Antonio, Texas 78227
(512) 673-4943
A primarily residential program, NCU claims to have
"integrated study and examination courses" for
off-campus learning and offers credit for life experience.
Their brochure claims that NCU is "an Associate
Member" of the Transnational Association of Christian
Colleges and Schools (TRACS), a misleading statement since
Associate status in TRACS is not a membership category.
They have also stated, "We do not have our new
catalog completed," and repeated requests have
produced the same response. Their brochure contains no
faculty listings, and their letterhead is photocopied
rather than printed, which raises further questions about
their credibility. Finally, in their Assessment of
Career Experiential Learning - Student Manual, they
state, "Your Experiential Learning Portfolio and
related documents become part of your permanent file and
are property of NCU. Access to student files is limited to
NCU administration and faculty. In some circumstances
limited student access to the student's file may be
permitted." This is an absurdity, since students at
legitimate schools have the legal right to examine their
files in full (except for any application recommendation
letters to which they have previously waived their right
of review).
http://levicoff.tripod.com/nifi/nifi-12.htm
According to various
resources, National Christian University moved to
Oklahoma and one source also stated it likely was in Missouri
as well, after a State of Texas injunction.
A query has been sent to the
Texas Attorney Generals office and also Texas Higher
Education, requesting absolute confirmation that the 1976
National Christian University did in fact have a Texas State
injunction against it for being a diploma mill.
According to David
Linkletter of Texas Higher Education, in a telephone
conversation, National Christian University did in fact have a
temporary injunction against it in 1975. NCU in essence fled
the State of Texas to avoid a permanent injunction and fines,
for dispensing degrees without accreditation. They were never
licensed or accredited. National Christian University then
took a Corporation license in Missouri and also operate out of
Oklahoma. However, according to Mr. Linkletter, they have also
started again in Texas in 1990. Mr. Linkletter will cover that
information in his expected letter, and it will be posted in
it's entirety.
NCU was an
illegal diploma mill that was not licensed to issue degrees,
nor were they accredited in any way.
If Don Hargis acquired his Masters
from them, it would have been after he obtained his Bachelors from
Southern Methodist University in 1976, because a person goes
for their Masters after their Bachelors. That would also mean
it was after the reported 1975 Texas State imposed injunction, meaning his
credentials show more fabrications.
Since SJCTS is located in Fort Worth, Texas, and is unlicensed to
grant degrees, why would they want to equate themselves with an outfit in
Missouri, that had
been run out of Texas for being an illegal diploma mill? Particularly
when one cannot find an actual physical National Christian University in
Missouri, and the Saint John's site, nor MBI Yeshiva,
offers no addresses for the supposed school sources of
credentials.
If one looks
carefully, in the Theological Faculty of SJCTS, one finds that Dom Don Bryant de Cordova,
lists the National Christian University of Missouri for his, "
M.Th.", or Master of Theology. Meanwhile, on the Seminary
Faculty page, he lists himself as Don Bryant Hargis de
Cordova, "...M.Th., Clinical and Pragmatic Theology, National
Christian University of Missouri". That's
aside from the Don Hargis listing.
While it seems that the
1975 version of the National Christian University may have
left Texas, and relocated to Missouri and Oklahoma, it looks like
they may have been replaced at the same address, ie 1620 Pinn Road:

Don Hargis has the credentials
in his MBI listing as " Doctor
of Sacred Theology: St. Johns Theological Seminary", which
is the same type of "degree" given to James Trimm,
and has as much value as James Trimm's.
Keep in mind, Don
Bryant Hargis aka Don Bryant De Cordova gave himself degrees
from his own illegal
seminary, which has never been licensed by the states of Texas or New
Mexico to give degrees. And on the flip side, Don Bryant De
Cordova aka Don Hargis, gave himself doctorates from his own
diploma mill, which included:
Doctor
of Sacred Theology: St. Johns Theological Seminary
****from the MBI faculty list--Notice how they omitted
putting in "Chrysostom"
Scientia Doctor in
Pneumiatry, ScD
Sacrae Theologae Doctor, SThD
Sc.D., (h.c.), Pneumiatry, Saint John Chrysostom Theological Seminary
S.T.D., Transformative Theologos, Saint John Chrysostom
Theological Seminary
These doctorates and degrees were very
briefly disclosed on the Saint John Chrysostom Theological
Seminary web site, but have since
been removed, i.e. since June 12, 2003. Keep in mind SJCTS is based in Fort Worth Texas and
has no State licensing to offer
any degrees, nor have they ever been licensed for that
purpose, making any degrees they issued illegal and invalid,
according to Texas laws. Meaning James
Trimm's and the Hargis's, De Cordova's and anyone else
mentioned that has said source of degrees, is claiming false credentials
and cannot be viewed as a "Doctor" in whatever area
they claim.
2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
Titus 1:11
Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
