What does this name mean in "ancient" Hebrew (assuming it is a Hebrew name)? Judges 4-5, Hebrews 11:32 I think I remember Barack Obama saying his first name means "blessed", corresponding to modern Hebrew "baruch" as in Baruch Hashem.

They are two different unrelated words.

According to this article, although his name means blessing, it shows his Islamic association. You are aware that Obama is a Muslim?
Quote:Baraq [Barack] was the name of the winged horse-like creature that took Mohammed to Paradise in the Night Journey. Baraq can also mean God's blessing. Obama is Swahili for Osama, who was one of Mohammed's chief warriors. Osama also means lion. Hussein reminds some Americans of Saddam Hussein, and Obama's supporters get upset if it is used. Hussein was the name of Mohammed's grandson. So Obama's entire name is based upon Islamic mythology and African conquest. Barack Hussein Obama means [Allah's blessing] [Mohammed's grandson] [One of Mohammed's finest warriors].

Thanks for correcting that (the difference between the two words). I don't trust any right-wing political/religious site that claims Obama is a Muslim, though. The same pack of right-wingers who whine about Obama attending that discredited kook Rev. Wright's church (a "Christian pastor" who uses the G-D word in a sermon) will call Obama a Muslim in the next paragraph. I don't doubt that his father was, which would explain his horrible middle name, but Barack seems to be a typical misled Purpose-Driven American Christian. His winning the election is hardly "African conquest" since he is an American, not an African. A lot of black Americans who are not Muslims were given African Muslim names. I am a black American who thinks giving American Christian kids Muslim names is a

but I haven't seen anything that proves Barack Obama is a Muslim as opposed to somebody who merely has a
really dysphemistic name.
I am not saying that you (sheep wrecked) are incorrect, I am saying that the writer of that article is misguided at best and a religion/nationality-baiting liar at worst.
