When you die...what do you want people to remember you for?

What do you think you will be remembered for? As fitting a particular label, or denomination, or type of person or.... Sunny

I recall seeing a famous and well respected Christian evangelist being interviewed. I was quite shocked when he answered the questions about what he wanted to be remembered for when he died.

That answer was, he wanted to be remembered as a man of integrity.

For as long as I can remember having considered this, the only thing I want to be remembered for, is that I lived for and shared Christ and was faithful to Him to the end.
.

Philippians 1:20-21 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Th_JesusLives
If our life's witness is not for the Glory of God, then our purpose here is wasted. It's all about Him.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

1Ti 1:16 However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Mat 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you an hungered, and fed you? or thirsty, and gave you drink?
Mat 25:38 When saw we you a stranger, and took you in? or naked, and clothed you?
Mat 25:39 Or when saw we you sick, or in prison, and came to you?
Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me.

The thing I am known for now, which irritates me immensely, is the fact that I am a musician. I suspect, much to my irritation, that that is what I will be remembered for. (You can really insult me or make me angry, by introducing me to your friends as a classical double bass player. You can really add injury to the insult by saying I am a really good bass player - one of my friends did this to me some weeks ago. I was furious).

I would be remembered as a thinker who used his mind in God's service to study the one thing that really matters: theology.

But no, music they understand. It tickles their ears

After all, outside a few select circles of evangelicals who cares about theology these days

God gives us all gifts to use for His glory. Sometimes, the gift does not appear to be so glamorous and other times it is definitely in the spotlight Popcorn

I think whatever God has given us is what we are responsible to used to edify the body of Christ. And sometimes He only uses those gifts for a limited time, replacing them with others. Whatever He puts on one's heart is how He leads us most times, imo Pinky2

If one's theology drives them more than serving God, then is it all that important? Can one "live" their theology rather than make it the vehicle to travel in? Th_ththink

I think there is a huge difference between the question of what we want to be remembered as, versus what we will be remembered as being. Smiley-surround

When we interact with people, especially on the internet where contact is generally limited via our written words, that is what people know us by and will remember us by. 10167

And what those words say about us, our beliefs, our focus, our very purpose may well be what is remembered. And that rememberance might not be as we may have intended or hoped for. Or thought we were coming across as. 10171

For those who belong to Christ, the hope is always to be more like Him. And to be an edifying representative of Him to others. Flowerpr

We are always representing Him when we profess Him. Shame5 or Yuk or Friend Grouphugg6 Th_there Icare Smiley-happy093

The question becomes...is it something we want to be remembered for?

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

1 Peter 1:13-16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14. As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

1Pe 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God gives: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Are these two things really that different?

If one lives according to G-ds laws (or living for and sharing Jesus, how
ever you would like to word it Smile ) does not that lead to also being
a man of integrity? Perhaps what he was saying was that he wants to
be remembered as a man who lived his faith, rather than giving lip
service to it.

I think integrity is a general moral characteristic that many people try to achieve, whether they are Christians or not. For Christians who love Jesus, there is more that they hope to be remembered for - that He was the most important, the preeminent part of their life. For myself, I owe Him a debt I cannot pay and I pray that my life reflected Him - not just with integrity, but with love, compassion, and mercy - just as He showed me.

One of my favorite verses is:

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.
