OK it depends. A better analogy then is why we wash out fruits and veggies (you do don't you? :biggrinSmile To cleans the corruption of of it. We are removing the impurities (ie E.coli) and leaving the rest (your food).

Ever had a loaf off bread with mold on one corner? Cut off the Corner with a good amount of extra and eat the rest. I know many who do this.

That is what I meant. I need to be careful. As ALL analogies break down eventually.

The root question :How Much Leaven?

We should strive for NONE ultimately. Yes?

That isn't a healthy thing to do. Visible bread mold has already spread its invisible hyphae (fungal "roots") throughout the loaf. If you can see mold on one slice of bread, the mold has established an invisible colony in the rest of the loaf.

I brew beer, which is liquid bread, and around a cup (8 fluid ounces) of yeast in water (leaven) will ferment 15 gallons (1,920 fluid ounces) of malt/water solution into beer.

Exactly YYZ!!!! Which is why I never consume any part of food that has gone mouldy as I already said above. And when compared to the analogy of leaven and fasle teachings and doctrines it makes real good sense.
I agree YYZ!!! Way to go...although the beer might not be what I would be making or be my cup of tea.. Icon_tea

I do believe when someone has been involved in false doctrines and a false belief system, they need to not only totally eliminate all those beliefs, but they need to go through every belief they hold and weigh all the to the Scriptures to make sure that what they now believe is indeed of sound doctrine. 15249

Too many merely move from one system of false beliefs to another and never get to the point of it just being about Christ and the Word of God. It's always about someone's teachings, or viewing scripture through some man's funnel of opinion of the Scriptures. And that means it isn't necessarily sound doctrine. Many end up skewing their doctrine to the opinions instead of allowing the Scriptures to speak clearly to them. It's supposed to be about Christ and following Him and listening to the examples and teaches recorded in the Scriptures.

Ephesians 4:13-15 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

1 Corinthians 1:12-17 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14. I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15. Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

1 Corinthians 3:2-8 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4. For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5. Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6. I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I went from Christianity to charismatic to Messianic and all the while I dragged doctrines right along with me like a boat load of luggage. It definitely worked like leaven - I was leaving a trail of moldy breadcrumbs where ever I went Badday

So that meant, upon finally leaving the Messianic realm, that I had to go back to the Word, forget about all the doctrines I had sucked up, and just go by what the Bible says. The creeds, the teachings, the doctrines, the theologies, the revelations, the manifestations, and false information that had been dumped into my system had to be completely cleansed out by the washing of the Word. The simplicity that is in Christ is more precious than any other treasure. Freedom in Christ has never "smelled" so good Flowerpr

Congrats...

It is a hard trip, I know.

You are right. We need to stick to the Word like nothing else.

Here is the most appropriate smiley on the list but it was always to offensive to use.

I think it applies well, here.

Readbible

I wish my parents had taught me that.

NOW I know better and if my Bible Software was made of paper, I would be on my dozenth copy.

Anyone that believes they have cleared themselves of false doctrines but believes you can hold onto the fruit and simply cutoff the mold, is deceived. Smiley-danger

The doctrines they may feel they have left has permeated their beliefs and shows through time and again by those who understand the deceptions they have been involved. Snapoutofit

It takes a willingness to go through all that one believes and really evaluate it to the Scriptures, not predisposed ideas or lenses of understanding. Allowing God to convinct and teach by His Holy Spirit and the Word alone. It's being willing to say and understand that we all can be deceived and we must always strive to test what we believe to the Word.
