I think each person needs to seek God's wisdom and understanding to fully drink in His Word. To me, there are so many "translations" out there, it seems to be more marketing than anything else. Just like ice cream flavors. It used to be only chocolate and vanilla. Now you can get anything you can imagine! (I'm a fan of Ben and Jerry's coffee Heath Bar crunch!)
I do believe that some modern translations may help some to understand some things easier. As long as the "good news" is not changed, and Jesus Christ is the God that is preached to all nations. Anyway, good topic for discussion and some great responses. Keep 'em coming!

The modern aka easier-to-read versions ALL DISTORT the Gospel. Which means, the "good news" is changed. Can God use a modern version to bring people to Christ? Yes, but the door is wide open for spiritual corruption, for deception, for heresy - because the modern versions do not uphold the Deity of Christ. Without that, your faith will be ship wrecked.

I think that most people do not comprehend that the modern translations do NOT translate the manuscripts by taking the Hebrew and Greek and working with the text that is there. Rather, they take the manuscripts and develop their own twist in "interpreting" running fast and loose with the text. When these modern versions use a corrupt set of NT manuscripts [they ALL use the same set] the end result is going to be mistranslating, incorrect translating, deleted verses, missing words and phrases. And the Deity of Christ and the abhorrence that God has for sin are all white washed and dumbed down to completely render God's Word useless.

Ice Cream? I certainly wasn't suggesting the Word of God should be the flavor of the day. As an older believer of many years who's experienced alot of things in this life, I believe it is the responsibility of each of us to be serious students of the Word. Certainly share in the research of others, but do your own as well.
