I saw this word (name?) in another thread: http://www.seekgod.ca/forum/showthread.php?tid=194

I have my own ideas about what it may mean, but according to the thread the admins definitely know what it means. Is it yet another "sacred name"?
Eloheinu means our God.

Just thought I would add a little info Biggrin

Eloheinu is actually part of the word for God in Hebrew - Elohim. By changing the ending it makes it "our God". As is most foreign languages, nouns are male, female, neutral, plural and singular depending on how they are spelled.

Hope that helps!!!

Elohim comes from Elahh (pronounced allah) and im. Elahh simply means god. Allah means curse. Olah means burnt offering, sacrifice

There seems to be many differing opinions when it comes to the name of Allah and Elohim, but I think that it's pretty much a general consensus that although they have similar Semitic roots, Elah and Allah are not pronounced the same. One is "EL ah" and the other "AH lah". In Islam, Allah is considered as one of 99 *names* of their god - although there those outside of Islam that state "Allah" is not a name either. Hebraically, Elohim, is not a name but a *title*.

Etymologically, Allāh (ألله) is derived from a contraction of the Arabic words al- (the) and ʾilāh (deity, masculine form) — al-ilāh meaning "the god" or "the one true God".

I thought it would be interesting to present Thayer's etymological rundown of Elohim - because Elohim means a lot more than just "God" depending on context in the OT. I have seen Elohim spelled as Elohiym quite often to designate God as separate from the other occurrences of elohim as gods, angels, and judges.

I wonder if that last word is the origin of "Kyrie", which I assumed was Latin since Catholics use it.

Kurios means Lord. Kyrie is also a Greek derivative of kurios. The Latin word for "Lord" is Dominus. I suspect there is probably quite a bit of Greek in Catholicism. The Catholic Prayer "Kyrie Eleison" is Greek for "Lord have mercy".

Props for translating that prayer (and showing me how the second word is spelled Goodpostsmiley ). The band Mr. Mister wrote a popular rock song around it. Since upsilon apparently translates to both U and Y in English, I suppose my screenname would be Upsilon Upsilon Zeta Dermakephalos. LMAO

Elohaynu means Elohim shelanu. I mean, "Our God." Better yet, I recommend you to read my thread, "Why Elohim if God is Absolutely One?"
