Even religious circumcisions would be forbidden if it passes. Of course the NT says that nowadays God doesn't care if boys and men are circumcised or not--possibly excepting cases like Timothy's where men will be witnessing to Jews--but this proposal reeks of religious discrimination since circumcision is integral to the Jewish faith.

I don't think it has a chance of going too far. They have tried to introduce similar bills around the country which have failed totally, but it's a very small group tying to make a big deal out it. Apparently, the cause is an organization that is against "genital mutilation" Smilies-34787 Some people have wayyyyyyyy too much time on their hands Biggrin

According to one article, African Americans are less susceptible to HIV and other diseases if they are circumcised. It's not like circumcisions are forced on babies either - it is a parental choice and only about 60-65% of boy babies go "under the knife" in America. I have never heard of boy babies not getting circumcised in hospitals around here, unless they are Jewish or Messianic wanna bes Smack

I think it's more the norm to be circumcised. I can't imagine having a boy and then have to endure the ridicule later in life for not being circumcised. It's a cultural thing no doubt, but in America, it is considered normal practice.

Totally idiotic! Yes
The world is full of hypocrisy and irony. Here in Australia at the moment a group of doctors are lobbying to have a law passed allowing "partial" female circumcision because "if we don't 'they' will do it anyway and it will be much worse for the female concerned".

That is Islamic practice and I have seen such proposals elsewhere - I think I read here in the USA that it has been brought up as well. However, I am not sure Islam would recognize a partial circumcision on girls if done outside the Islamic faith, so it's really a very stupid lobby. I have heard that girls are being forced to go back to Islamic countries to have the full female circumcision, at great cost - both financially, and horrifically to these girls. I cannot imagine the lengths that Muslims go to in honoring their religion and the derogation of women.

As far as Judaism goes, it would definitely be considered anti-Semitic and of course anti-Islamic - from my perspective. Hopefully, people will "rise up" and bug their congressmen like crazy and put the kabash on this mess right quick Smiley-face-thumb
