Does one individual praying for an unbeliever (e.g. an atheist) or a non-believer (such as an occultist, an agnostic or somebody of a different faith) ever work?
Anyone who dabbles in art and/or science will encounter people who don't know or don't believe the Truth. E.g.: Roger Ebert is a world-famous movie critic whose body has been completely destroyed by cancer. He is about to die and he knows it. He has done a lot of good in his life. He is agnostic. I care about him because I like him. There are a couple of artists I admire--one a sculptor and painter, one a musician--who practice or practiced divination, and the musician says he is agnostic and "faith-less" but he is involved in the occult and may not realize that occultism is a deadly form of religion.
Does my praying that these various people will be saved make a difference? Obviously God's will is that none should perish, or He wouldn't have sacrificed Himself on the cross. Can an individual praying for another without their knowledge, help the other person get saved? If more people prayed for an individual or group of people (like the people in Haiti and China), would the subject of the praying "have a better chance" of being saved? God could save a billion Indian Hindu souls in one fell swoop if it were His will, since He can do anything.
(With that said, can I ask that everyone who reads this pray that all of the above will believe Jesus, accept Him as their God and be saved before they die?)

Vic, you can't imagine (or more likely you can!) how your prayers have bettered my life. Were it not for you praying for me and my reading your replies to me I would probably be dead of suicide by now. God led me to this site so I could get used to reading His Word and so I could meet you (and of course He knows my passion for all things Canadian). I think that when you are in heaven, God will show you just how many souls you have led to salvation through this site. Be prepared to meet A LOT of people--for everyone who emails you or posts on the forum, there are probably a thousand who don't write but have gotten saved because of you. You are a blessing from God.
