Gibson was and is not a Christian, just as the Catholic 'faith' is not Christian. Christ was brutally murder by the Jews of Judea who held to the tenets of Judaism, and the Romans who worshipped a pantheon of gods and goddesses. The two joined together make up the 'Judeao-Christian' religion which infused their pagan traditions into holydays called holidays. Do the research.

I agree that Gibson is not a Christian, but I think you are viewing the crucifixion from non-Biblical view point, Jesus died because HE gave His life to save us from sin. Certainly God used the Jewish leadership and those trapped in their system of belief [not the general populace] and the Romans to carry out His plan, but ultimately, it was OUR SIN that put Him there.

I just don't see "Judeo-Christian" religion. True Christianity is based on the New Covenant in Christ. Judaism rejects that covenant and is based on Rabbinical Talmudism which did not exist in the first century. There may have been a pattern emerging with their oral traditions and we know that the Pharisees evolved into the Rabbinical system, but Judaism is actually the formalized religion as instructed through the Talmud and the interpretations of it. The Talmud was complied from 200-500CE and certainly there were oral traditions that were passed down - but none of that was part of the Mosaic Law [which is clearly stated in the OT as completely written down].

The Gospel is not about being Jewish, it's about Jesus Christ. The Gospel is not ethnic or cultural or traditional or pagan.

Pining pagan associations onto Christian celebrations is hypocritical, and is dealt with in Vic's HRfaqs on her website with more faqs being added over time.

There is nothing ungodly or unrighteous about celebrating Christmas or Easter. They are not pagan holidays. They are times that Christians use to thank God for Jesus Christ and use the opportunity to tell others about Him aka the Gospel. Because some traditions come from pagan sources does not make them pagan. Christians do not worship trees, bunnies and eggs, and it is a terrible mistake to believe that one can be more righteous in non-observance because one rejects those harmless traditions. The traditions that Jesus and Paul spoke of had to do with those things that were used to inflict upon or manipulate people in how they lived for/obeyed God. We need to be careful in our judgments of others.
