Is the Hebrew Roots Movement, "HRM for short," in danger of spawning spin-off cult followings, and more importantly has it already?
Grafted if you read up on the main website linked to this forum you will see much evidence that it has already.

I do think the Hebrew roots movement is e re-emergence of the thing that bothered St Paul in his time, namely Judaizers, which he mentions in Galatians. I dont know if the Hebrew Root people command circumcision but I am convinced they go too far in their infatuation with things hebrew
It seems that speaking hebrew makes a person "holyer then thou"
don t get me wrong, i think biblical hebrew is beautiful and the meaning of the words go often deeper then english or another language.
So its worthwhile to look into it.
I myself have tryed to learn hebrew ( started twiced and stopped twice) lol. But it does add only in understanding that there is more in the biblical words then meets the eye.
It does n t make you a better believer or closer to God.
Its about having a relation with your Creator.
And yes some HR people and messianics go to far, they scare people away and alienate new believers.

Hi, emje! Welcomeani to the forum! Glad you're here to share your thoughts! Red1

I agree that HR goes too far with all things Hebraic. It becomes a tool to give the impression of one's gnostic superiority. There definitely is a danger when one studies Hebrew under the banner of HR that one believes they have a better understanding of Scripture.

It's funny, but the NT does not say that any language is better. The day of Pentecost, God chose to speak through the disciples in many different languages and guess what? The people understood in their own tongue what was being said!!! It's wow! Swoon What a concept!!!! :icon_coolsign:

Paul's letter to Corinthians [1 Cor 1 & 2] immediately pops into my mind - because as knowledgeable as he was, and he probably spoke 7-8 languages himself - he said that all of man's understanding was foolishness. What comes from God is wise and that understanding comes from the indwelt Holy Spirit, not from an earthly language. I just LOVE how God works!!!! Icon_new_party
It seems that there aremany Holy Spirits, because all diff groups claim to have Him. The problem is, that the Holy Spirit is the spirit of God therefor Holy.
He is never to go contradict God.
This is how i see it.
We have to go back to the time before the first official church was established the rkk. They added and took away alot from the gospel.
But this does not mean we have to go back to Moses camp(system)
if we do that, we totally ignore jesus coming.
His coming has a reason.
If God wanted to let it all be like it was, Jesus would not have to come.
So His coming means there is a change.
What did change?
Not how God want's us to live a rightesslife.
Not that by His grace we can live however we want.

Believing on Him and His shed blood and stay in the old convenant seems silly. Do we forget all about that convenant?
No of coursse not all the convenants served a purpose.
And the new convenant has a new purpose.
The veil was torn.
The way to God was free to acses.
We can go into the Holyest of Holy by the blood of the Lam and no longer by goats and bulls.
The priesthood is gone, this is one of the changes.
The yearly yom kippur is gone, He is our highpriest now who intercesses every day for us.
He is also our advocate to plead for us.
No more rituals, no more outward showings.
Like temple , altar etc.

The HRM insists that we have to live like mose and israel back then lived.
But by doing so, Jesus get more on the background day by day, until its torah torah above jezus almost.

Also the thought that you have to learn hebrew and get a hebrew mindset instead of the greek mindset, to be able to understand God and what he wants of us, seems a bit silly.
God diveded the language at babel, and he is more then able to understand and even speak all the languages in the world.
When the holy spirit comes to live in us, it is He who gives the understanding, not a hebrew mindset.

For me HRM is one of many groups that came out of the real thing, like within christianity also many groups are born, and they all have "new" truths.
Its very confusing to read and hear al those new theory's, i was fooled for 3 years to, thinking the messianic way was IT.
I thought i came home.
But since this year i moved again (way of speak)looking for a new home.
Believing is an adventure, but like in all adventures aometime we get lost.....and have to find our way back.
Back where?
To God Himself and there is only one way given Jesus the Christ.

Such wisdom and well thought out points, Emje. 638

I have had emails from many, and one Jewish Christian told me his experience in the messianic movement, made him lose his mooring in Christ. He felt adrift and lost until he realised it was all about Jesus Christ. About a relationship with Him, obedience to Him, and trusting Him for all things.

There is no other way to the Father but Jesus---we are not saved by doing a bunch of things we think please Him. We are saved by God's grace and by the faith He gives us--we do things to honor and obey Him.

I was one who came out of the Messianic Jewish movement many years ago before I knew anything about the HRM. Didn't realize then how dangerous this movement would eventually become. Praise the Lord! I'm no longer under bondage!

Welcomeani to the forum, Linda! Nice to see you here Cheer

I was also involved deeply in this movement. My heart's desire is to proclaim the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to expose the false teachings of the HR movement.

My opinion is that it will blow a huge whole into Christianity. In other words, I believe that it will be incepted by a major number of Christians. The concepts and teachings of HRM are quickly crossing the line into many churches, which is why I am so much against any kind of celebrations of the feasts, even on a limited basis. From what I am seeing, this opens the door for people to go back to their "Hebraic Roots" and down the path of Torah obedience they go.

Many who have traveled this path end up denying Christ and converting to Judaism
