I am wondering if you have run across this more within the Charismatic movement? I ask because having been fully immersed in that movement at one time [including Word of Faith], we were taught that one is a "little Christ" with full anointing to act as Christ - also called the believer's authority. The main teachers of this whole movement like Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Oral Roberts, ad infinitum all preached this kind of "faith".

I glanced through Vic's articles and it is based in the Quaker and Kenswick teachings which are really integrated into the faith movement [Charis and Word of Faith, etc]. The teaching comes from a deviant view of Christ in this movement which promotes that Jesus was "born again" in hell, raised by God to be "a god" - although it is subtly incorporated in the teaching of the resurrection.

Bottom line, in order to "be like Jesus", one must be a "small version" of Him. I heard Kenneth Copeland once say that one could have the same exact power that Jesus did, but the Holy Spirit would not allow it because it would be like shooting a automatic rifle at a barn and a person could literally blow apart the world with power Noooooo

In the faith movement - faith is a force of power to be activated by one's faith and God's obedience to your faith Swoon yes, you read that right Reaction

All of those concepts meld into the "we are little gods" theory, which only shows how deceitful this movement is ... "and you shall be like God"

you hit the nail on the head, my brother who has been in the bible (25 yrs) (and i say bible, cus now for the first time, i dont think he has been in the WORD), is falling into the wealth trappings and he just informed me he attends kenneth Copeland's church in Fort Worth, i was floored when i heard he accepts his teachings (and the little gods) and all the rest of the one you mention. ( ....i have been doing some research and i wasnt aware this was Main stream teachings in these churches, i am hoping i can sit down and watch some of their shows this weekend and see what is being taught in the pulpits these days. he is in the assembly of God, as was i, remember me speaking in tongues, yeah his church and remember how i thought that was kewl, yeah i was blind...

we are doing awesome, Luke is so growing and demanding, lol...

they can disagree, Vic, doesnt make them right... Smile
oh and he believes that we can do greater things than Jesus based on some verses they have taken out of context and that its not my job to call out false teachings, judge not.... ugh...
Well I am new to this site, not sure how to start my own introduction thread (lol... sorry about that!) but I would like to comment on this "little gods" topic. To an extent, we are "little gods" only because we are considered "children of God". Doesn't mean in any way, shape, or form that we have the same anointing that Christ had. Matter of fact, I do not believe that we can have that anointing NOW because of our flesh. Furthermore it would devalue Jesus if we believed that we had the same anointing as Him simply because we would have to be equal with him now in order to have that anointing. Just to concrete that thought, we are not Co-heirs with Christ until we become "overcomers",and that cannot happen until we finish the race.

"oh and he believes that we can do greater things than Jesus based on some verses they have taken out of context and that its not my job to call out false teachings, judge not.... ugh..." This is a topic I copied from Vic above and it is an interesting thought. The greater things that we can do I truly believe is the transformation of us (a lowly, sinful being) into a "child of God". Think about it, that IS a miracle and the greatest one, our master Jesus affirms that! Us, who are not from Heaven, will become Co-heirs with Christ... meaning that we will be above all with the exception of Christ and Father God.... think about that?... awesome right?... kinda makes Jesus walking on water a simple feat eh?... ha ha ha!

Hi Steve,

Could you provide some Scriptures to support your statements. It really helps to study and think about what people say based on the Scriptures. Thank you.

That comment you quoted was from Princess of Heaven to me. I didn't actually state that.

However, I do not believe we become 'little gods'. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, the Son of God, the ONLY Begotten Son, the salvation of God.

We are going to be changed, because flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. [b]

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
[b]

We could never be the same as Christ. Being heirs is based on the hope of eternal life, because of Him. He already was eternal. The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Tit 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Jas 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Jesus was here to do the will of God and bring salvation--He is the salvation of God-- and the new covenant to all mankind. Our purpose is to do the will of God, love Him and believe and know Him through Christ and His Word, via the indwelling Holy Spirit, with the knowledge of who He is and the hope of eternal life because of Him.

We can never be the 'same' as Christ. He has all the attributes and power of God, because He was God manifest in the flesh while on this earth, and now sits at the right hand of the Father, till all is complete. We will never have the power, be equal to or even just a little bit less than that. Jesus overcame death , which, here on earth we still die in the flesh. Jesus' body did not see corruption, our bodies when we die, do.

1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
1Co 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1Co 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
1Co 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Php 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Php 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

I cannot even fathom thinking we are just a 'little bit less' than Jesus and God. I think of Thomas when he touched Jesus' scars after Christ rose, and said:

Joh 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

That literally brings me to my knees. Those things were recorded according to John because:

Joh 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Joh 20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
Joh 20:31 [b]But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Yes, all that has happened from creation to Christ dying for us and since then, is truly a miracle and amazing. But that God loved us enough to set this plan in motion that we might be with Him for all eternity is the miracle. Because transforming us isn't a hard thing for Him. Allowing us to make foolish decisions or do things of the flesh even when we say we love Him is likely harder. Dwelling on our own perceived importance instead of giving all glory and glorifying God is likely more of an issue to Him than all that He does for us in the way of providing all we have, taking care of us, protecting us and such. He wants our total devotion and focus on Him.

It's about that relationship, I think, not the perceived future benefits of it, in my mind. It's totally about Christ.

1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Rom 11:34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
Rom 11:35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

I personally don't believe that being with Him for all eternity makes us 'little gods' in any sense. It makes us loved by Him and with Him as children, but not as gods.

Luk 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
Luk 20:35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
Luk 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Luk 20:37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Luk 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Heb 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
Heb 2:4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

Heb 2:5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
Heb 2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Heb 2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
Heb 2:8 [u] Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
Heb 2:9 But ***we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death,*** crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Heb 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Just wanted to share a couple of passages of scripture that came to mind as I was reading your post. The first, part of Romans 8, does indeed say that believers are co-heirs with Christ.

Rom 8:11-19
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. KJV

We will be like him inasmuch as we will receive the inheritance of eternal life.

1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

[Ooops...I just read Vic's comment and realized she'd had already posted some of the verses from Romans 8.]

Here's an interesting verse that I didn't notice in any of the other posts;

Rom 8:29
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
