Why?? WHY?? Scripture says that no man will know the hour or something similar but SDAs have previously set dates for the Rapture with identical results (unfortunately I used to go to an SDA school). Is betting verboten on this site?

People do goofy things. Maybe it's for notoriety? One thing I noticed in the article was this comment:

I think there is some truth in that. Many people are looking for a way of escape. The problem is, God never that He would whisk us away when trouble comes, but would give us the strength to get through it.

What I found somewhat humorous is this statement by Evans:

It's a matter of simple math, said Evans.
Calculation of the date

According to Camping's prediction, the Rapture will happen exactly 7,000 years from the date that God first warned people about the flood. He said the flood happened in 4990 B.C., on what would have been May 21 in the modern calendar. God gave Noah one week of warning.

Since one day equals 1,000 years for God, that means there was a 7,000-year interval between the flood and rapture.

"We hope that anyone would get a Bible out and try and prove that this is wrong," he said.

I ask myself, what simple math? Do we even know the exact date of the flood? No. Plus his idea of using the Georgian calendar to compute his time frame is laughable. I just shake my head at how purposefully ignorant some people are To this day we do not know the exact date in time from the creation of the world.

Even the secular community is clamoring to know when the world will end and so the Mayan predictions of Dec 2012 are now the latest trend. The conspiracy theories are flying all over on that one!!!

That explains why I keep seeing references to 2012. I remember when the secular folks were saying that the industrialized world would collapse on the first day of the year 2000 (which wasn't even the correct year of the "millennium", it was 2001). Do any of the prognosticators and their followers ever feel like chumps when the dates arrive and nothing special happens?

Unfortunately followers of these false prophets often end up destroyed in their faith. There are so many that have done this false date setting, all with the correct date, and all proven false. And they just gloss over the failure with another date setting. And the fallout is shipwrecked faith and fuel for the mockers, and bringing shame on the name of Christ. That's what happens when people follow men instead of Christ and proving all things to the Word of God.

Y2K - what a farce that was Christians were on the band wagon with that too. Major ministries were giving advice on how to "prepare" [you had to buy the book ] A family member of mine stored 100s of gallons of water and tons of food to avoid computer shut down which would cut off power, water, and delivery of food

There will always be the "fear factor" levied at people, and more so as the days get more evil. It is a natural response to the theories that abound. And with the internet, all the hoaxes are multiplied and spread around like melting butter

Think about why and how people come up with these dates. It is pride and gnosticism They feel they have been given this advantage that others do not have. When they "miss the mark" they simply brush it off and come up with more dates and their followers just follow them like the pied piper

For example, when Miller predicted the end between March 21. 1843 and March 21, 1944 and then re-predicted it for Oct 21, 1844. After that he gave up predicting and his following split up various way, but ........ Ellen White took up His torch by predicting more dates. Her "revelation" about the failed 1844 prediction:

That was the "fulfillment" of the "return" in a nutshell The whole teaching is extensive - it has to be, like all the rest. If you talk enough, then people believe it to be real

Then I think of Michael Rood who has been date setting for years. This past summer again, he predicted that Damascus would be destroyed at the fall feasts. He never stops with his end times prophecies. Yet people continue to pander after him. Someone who was convinced that the "math was right" according to Michael and was waiting for his last prophecy to come to pass was persuaded it was truth, because it was confirmed by the "voice"

People will believe what they want and find every excuse to overlook the obvious flaws and deceptions. They want confirmation of their opinions and doctrines, not the truth

Its quit simple if we read our bible and believe it
