I haven't been able to really find any biography on this guy, but I suspect he is no Jew at all.
I know he was raised in a church ( I assume Catholic) and despite the fact he calls himself a
Jew, I really really doubt that. He probably has imagined distant Jewish ancestry and
therefore figures that qualifies him as a Jew.
I know it's a big thing among Hispanics to assume they are of Jewish descent if their last
name ends in "ez" or "es" (which of course is very common), but that is a bunch of nonsense.
I think it's people like this, who are not Jews but proclaim they are, that really give the Messianic
movement a bad name.
Of course, if anyone can prove the guy is actually a Jew, by the standards of Jewish law, I will
be happy to retract this. But I don't think I have to worry about doing that......

Now this is an interesting claim. I just googled him and the only thing that shows up is a Rico Cortez who played in 1991
for a Reno minor league team called the Silver Sox.
Nothing about him playing with Yankees or Mets minor leagues (do those even exist?) or being a scout for the White Sox.

His full name is: Hernan "Rico" Cortes (he is also a Lakan Guro martial arts practitioner).
