Pastor Preaches "Why I Hate Obama" Sermon; Right or Wrong? - Mark - 09-08-2009 08:39 AM I just heard about this today. I think the pastor is very wrong for the way he approached the subject. What do you all think? Here's most of what was said on the news. TEMPE, Ariz. - The sermons at this east valley church are stirring controversy and for some, causing alarm. Pastor Steven Anderson says he's a man of God, but some are horrified at what he's preaching. Anderson is standing by his controversial sermon, entitled "Why I Hate Barack Obama." Video of the sermon has hit YouTube, and he's taped explaining why he hates the President and praying for his death. Sunday at church, Anderson told FOX 10, "I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today." Anderson is continuing to encourage his parishioners to pray for the president's death, but says he doesn't condone killing. "I will not take the law into my own hands. I will not take up any arms. It's a spiritual battle, spiritual warfare." Sunday, about 30 parishioners of the Faithful Word Baptist Church were met by a handful of protesters. "A pastor, a man of the cloth, doesn't condone assassinating people. He's not a pastor, he's a pas-turd," said protester Bill Demski. Some of the protesters tried to go into the church, but were denied. "I find it incomprehensible that someone can say they believe in the message of Jesus and preach hate," added protester James Jones. Tempe Police patrolled the area to make sure tempers didn't get out of hand, while many parishioners walked into the church carrying guns on their hips. One of them was Christopher Broughton, who got national attention when he brought an AR-15 assault rifle to an Aug. 17 rally outside the Phoenix Convention Center where President Obama was addressing veterans. We asked him if he wanted to clarify what the impact of Pastor Anderson's sermon was on his decision to bring a gun to the rally, but he had no response. Anderson says his sermon about wanting Obama to die was not meant to rile people up. "If anything, I was talking him down," he said, "Not riling him up." Pastor Anderson says his hatred of Obama and former president Bush stems from his views on abortion and the Iraq War. "Look up the word hate. Look up the word abhor, the word loathe. You'll see there are a lot of people that God hates, and so we should hate. But see, I didn't write that, that's in the Bible." The pastor says that since his sermon on Obama was posted on YouTube, he and his family have received death threats. "If people want to wish deaths on me I don't have a problem with that. But when people say, 'I'm coming to kill you and your family within the next 36 hours,' that's different than them hoping or wishing something in their mind," said Anderson. The White House had no comment. Is this the way God would want us to speak? I personally think not! RE: Pastor Preaches "Why I Hate Obama" Sermon; Right or Wrong? - sheep wrecked - 09-08-2009 12:52 PM There will always be people who hate and teach others to hate in the Name of the Lord. Just as "Christians" have murdered in the Name of God in the crusades, the abortion clinics, and the holocaust, so they will threaten evil against the president thinking they are doing God a favor. Unfortunately, America is paying for it's lethargy and now people are objecting to the evil that has been manifested by the man they chose to lead us. Consequences are most often not pleasant. May God have mercy on us all. RE: Pastor Preaches "Why I Hate Obama" Sermon; Right or Wrong? - Vic - 09-08-2009 01:52 PM I think the Scriptures have much to say about all of this. ![]() Romans 13:1-7 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4. For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Jude 1:8-16 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. 9. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. 10. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. 11. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. 12. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13. Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. 14. And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15. To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. Titus 3:1-3 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2. To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. 3. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. Tit 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2. For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 Peter 2:11-20 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12. Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14. Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16. As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 18. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. Matthew 5:44-48 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47. And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. 2 Peter 2:9-19 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10. But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13. And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14. Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15. Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16. But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ***** speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. There can be no justification for the promotion of hate by someone who claims to love Christ. What is being done is the shaming of Christ yet again by something under the banner of Christian. And that hate filled behavior will eventually bring official retaliation in some way. ![]() Jesus said to give to Caesar what was Caesar's. Regardless of how off government or leadership is according to Biblical standards, they are in place to fulfill God's purposes. He put them in place. He allowed them to be in authority. Jesus said vengeance is His. No matter what perceieved wrongs are done--it's not in our hands. It's in His hands, as are all judgments. ![]() We are pilgrims here and people need to get over the fact that they must uphold some misguided idea about whatever country they live in as somehow being godly. There isn't one. We belong to another kingdom---a spiritual one and that is where our allegiance and focus is to be. And obedience. And it doesn't matter who it is, every single person needs Jesus Christ. That is what the issue should be about. ![]() We are to be about His business--and advocating hatred and death to those who are not of Christ is not of Christ. There is a time coming when those things are going to be settled for all of eternity. We need to be about the business of pointing others to eternity with Christ. Not hating them for not knowing Him or doing the things many Christians have been guilty of before coming to Christ. Ephesians 2:1-7 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7. That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
RE: Pastor Preaches "Why I Hate Obama" Sermon; Right or Wrong? - grafted - 09-10-2009 02:41 AM I didn't vote for him, and will never vote for him, BUT! Exo 22:28 "You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people. Rom 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Rom 13:2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Now they can label me as part of the nutty right wing Christian grand poo-baa conspiracy, or whatever other label the nut jobs of the left would like, but there it is, scriptural- black and white. Don't like him, won't curse him. RE: Pastor Preaches "Why I Hate Obama" Sermon; Right or Wrong? - Strefanash - 10-13-2009 03:30 AM "Look up the word hate. Look up the word abhor, the word loathe. You'll see there are a lot of people that God hates, and so we should hate. But see, I didn't write that, that's in the Bible." Stref: the poor ignorant fool. God loves all, it says so in John 3:16. clearly the language of hatred is hyperbole for strong disapproval, but this makes a subtle point that sails right over the head of this lazy minded pastor. So clearly God hates fags? If this preacher has any consistency at all he will applaud Fred Phelps If God only loves some people, presumably the elect, then we have the vile blasphemy of limited atonement part of that TULIP acrostic beloved of full calvinists I regard Obama as a fraud, (but the right wingers as even worse) a continuing war criminal, and a politcal schmoozer who scuttled for cover when Jeremiah Wright denounced American evil in that other infamous sermon, and insofar as i detest any of them my religion is worthless, a sin between me and God I am well aware of. but this pastor calls himself a man of god, does not know anything about context whereby hyperbole is shown to be such by context, so sets himself up for a fraud. instead of acknowleging his hate is sin and repenting of it he preaches hate and thinks that the name of God will not be blasphemed by his doing. now such is ignorance of the highest order he totally ignores the verse "bless and do not curse" but then other preachers ignore it also, like the one who cited 2 Kings 2:22 to say that on fire christians should curse people. it is typical of these types that the plain and simple reading of common verses is to be thrown away when some obscure verse which appears to contradict the ones commonly cited emerges before their dull consciousness Anderson is continuing to encourage his parishioners to pray for the president's death, but says he doesn't condone killing. "I will not take the law into my own hands. I will not take up any arms. It's a spiritual battle, spiritual warfare." Stref: pure hypocrisy. if he wants him dead, as i have wanted evil men dead, it makes no difference as to the means, it is the intent which is of the devil. Has he never read the sermon on the mount? clearly not, but then i note that piece to be ingnored most often by most people . . . . After all God is not willing that ANY man perish (hmmmm, cant be right if He hates some people, but then i did not write what is in the bible did it never occur to him to pray for obama's repentance? or to pray for his own presumption? for if he hates anyone he himself does not know God, (read all of I John) walks in the flesh, is in the dark, is woefully backslidden, is carnal, in bondage to sin, etc etc etc |
