RE: Child artist, New Age Christian (???) - Vic - 11-02-2011 04:26 PM Quote:I have a copy of a painting of Jesus near the Wailing Wall. It's beautiful. Hi Marie, I am curious as to what significance and spiritual and historical accuracy this has. Historically there was no Wailing Wall when Jesus walked the earth. And as Jews know, the Wailing Wall is not part of the former Temple. The Temple was destroyed and was never at that specific location. Jesus prophesied this: Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Luk 21:5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, Luk 21:6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. The Temple was subsequently destroyed in 70AD. The Wailing Wall was not in existence until after the 1500's. After Sulem occupied Jerusalem. It's believed, and the Jewish authorities have accepted, the location actually represents the Western Wall of an early Roman fortress built and enlarged by Herod the Great. Herod called it Fort Antonia, and it became known as the Praetorium in the New Testament period, and which was the Roman military headquarters in Jerusalem. Mar 15:16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. Mar 15:17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, There is also legend that prior to the 1500's it was the location of a garbage dump and which Suleiman made the people clean up. And at that time nobody knew the Temple's prior location. However it is actually believed the Temple was in the location near the Dome of the Rock, and prior to 1520, the Jewish people had known that it was at the west entrance there. They had been officially assembling at or on the Mount of Olives which is at the eastern wall near the Gate of Mercy, not the western wall currently used as the Wailing Wall and which is not the same as the Western Wall of the Temple Mount in Jewish literature as some are prone to think. So what does that picture you own, have to do with any of this? What do Christians have to do with this practice of praying at that wall? Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Any "depiction of God" is false because nobody knows how He looks and looked. Nobody has seen the Father, and to have seen Jesus a present-day artist would need to be around 2,000 years old. |
