Women should not cut their hair, wear jewelry, wear makeup, and wear only dresses that go down past the knee (preferrably near the lower part of the calf). Men are not to have long hair or have facial hair. Neither should wear shorts.
Though the pastor and his wife have said that it doesn't matter what a person looks like, there were several ladies who attended church until this subject was brought up. They were given books on the subject as well as scriptures that refer to the topics (I can't tell you exactly the books or verses, but I know one spoke of the hair being the glory of the woman and should not be cut and man should not grow his hair long). I found it sad that the ladies who left did so because they felt that they could not belong to the body the way they appeared (they did not wear revealing clothing or inappropriate attire, just skirts that weren't as long as the ladies in the church and a few had short hair). They felt uncomfortable there. It made them feel that they had to be like the others in order to be accepted.
I asked the pastor and his wife about it and they said it was only conviction that made them leave. To me, it seemed like a "you need to look like us to be one of us" thing.
What do you think? If a woman wears ladies slacks or jeans, is she dressing like a man? If she cuts her hair, is she dishonoring God? If a man grows a mustache or beard is he rebelling? Those are the things we were taught. Jewelry was being showy. Any thoughts on this subject?

God Bless,

Mark
Scripture does not specify how long a woman's hair should be or how short a man's hair should be. How long is long? How short is short?

Pants on women? Can't find a verse in the Word of God that condemns it.

Many Pentecostals like to run to Deuteronomy 22 for their proof text, but if they do a careful and prayerful study of the text they will find that it is not talking about women not wearing garments made for a women. Women's slacks today are made to fit their frame. Men would look like women if they were able to squeeze themselves into women's slacks. The same with men's pants, a woman who dons them looks more masculine in man's pants.

The word pertaineth in verse 5 of Deuteronomy 22 is an interesting word. The original Hebrew is translated battle armor. Women were not to put on battle armor to go to war. War was, if you'll excuse the expression, a man's responsibility. Neither was the man to put on the garment of a woman to appear like he was a woman and so, escape going to war.

The same congregational naysayers that say a woman is wearing man's clothing if she wears slacks is guilty of falsely judging... hypocritical judging; for they are most assuredly guilty of wearing garments that have more than one fabric woven into them, also, more than likely they are wearing undergarments, which, according to the Word of God, only Priests were supposed to wear. Don't believe me? look it up in the Word of God.
