Why were these tribes forbidden? I thought Ruth was a Moabitess.

hmmm .... I would say that means a national indictment, not individual. God was into changing things. Maybe to keep them guessing ?

The Ammorites and Moabites had slaughtered many of the Israelites, which is why He said that.

For real, God always made a way for gentiles to be part of the kingdom. I think He was showing us that if one's heart is seeking after Him, then ethnicity means nothing. Rahab was of a pagan nation too - just one of many examples.

Even Jesus said that He came for the lost sheep of Israel and the healed Greeks and brought them into the Kingdom as well
