Tithing

Personally I find my hackles rising whenever I see people being urged to "tithe" or give a tithe.The tithe belonged to the Sinai Covenant and involved tithing the produce of the land.It was given to Levites and Priests and used to support widows ,orphans etc.
Some christian pastors while acknowledging that we are no longer under the Sinai Covenant still go ahead and require the tithe of their congregations regardless.Some even resort to Malachi and tell their congregations that they are robbing God if they do not tithe.

Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 3:12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi is speaking to the Israelites who lacked enough trust at that point in history to tithe as required under Sinai Law. Isn't it clearly obvious that these tithe requesters are taking the scripture out of context to scare the people into thinking that they are robbing God if they do not tithe.
As Christians we do not rob God when we do not tithe since it formed part of the commandments and ordinances given to Israelites to obey while living in the land.
