Chick Christian tracts
http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.asp

Anyone reading this has probably seen at least one Chick tract at some point. What do you think of them? Are they useful to witness to nonbelievers, worldly Christians, and/or people of Pagan-based religions? I know they are read, but do people take their advice?

A few picked nits that make me uneasy about Chick tracts:

They show pictures of "God", drawn with a human body and a faceless mannequin head;

They show pictures of "Jesus";

They contain very graphic pictures of demons;

The tract "Love the Jewish People" http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1000/1000_01.asp , which Christians are supposed to do, has the Israeli hexagram flag on the cover;

The Sodomite idol in "Doom Town" http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0273/0273_01.asp and Father Damien in "Man In Black" http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5023/5023_01.asp are based on the move The Exorcist.

Hi LM,
I haven't done much research on him or the tracts, although it nags in my mind that I did years ago--but can't think why. Th_ththink

I don't personally like them. I don't find the artwork edifying but very dark. Yuk

I don't like the changing of Scriptural stories and all the things you mention and other things I see. I have no idea if anyone is brought to Christ by them, but they aren't something I would use. I say this with just a brief perusal. So, for what it's worth.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

RE: Chick Christian tracts
I have no objetion to the art work per se, but find the manner of the entire things vicious, nasty, self righteous, and manipulative. IMO only the nastiness of bigots would write them.

I find them unmitigated filth. Hateful, self righteous, something along the lines that a Fred Phelps of Godhatesfags.com would write

One of them was banned in this country, I seem to recall hearing, on the ground of obscenity, though I can't recall which one or even if the claim is more substantiated than mere rumour

RE: Chick Christian tracts
The thing that bugged me on the first one I viewed on site was the scare tactic that "satan is out to get you". That is an over simplistic way of looking at the spiritual realm. It's certainly not how the Gospel in presented in Scripture. satan does not make us sin, nor is he constantly trying to thwart our efforts to serve God Snapoutofit

Jam 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Jam 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

Jam 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

RE: Chick Christian tracts
I think they are not effective not only because of the dreadful art work, but they
are simply too long. If you want to hook someone's attention, you have to do
it quickly and an in an interesting way. Those tracts fail on both accounts.
As a separate issue, and not to be indelicate, but when I have seen Chic tracts they are
in restrooms.

Doesn't it seem a little disrespectful to leave the word of G-d in such a place?

Interesting point. I think that most Christians feel that God is in the restroom too 9020

That reminds me - aren't there prayers for going in and out of the restroom for men in Judaism?

Yep for men and women after leaving the restroom basically thanking G-d for making sure
all our plumbing works correctly Smile

I just can't imagine taking a Tanach into a restroom, that's why I asked about the tracts.
