Speaking in Tongues

about 6 1/2 years ago, i went to a bible study, after wards they had prayer. I heard some pray in tongues, i thought how cool, I want to do that. I asked about it and was told to pray to God for it. so, I started to pray, 6 weeks later after church I met with a lady from the church at her house. we talk and talked and after wards she asked if I wanted anything? I told her I had been praying for the gift to speak in tongues, so she laid her hands on me and said a prayer,

she said ok talk and wow something unknown started coming out of mouth. I was speaking in tongues. I was wow.....

for a while now the Holy Spirit has been convicting my heart, but I wanted the flesh, the Holy Spirit has been getting louder and louder, til today, this morning the Holy Spirit said today, I pmed Vic from seek God. While i was waiting i did some research and asked myself some hard questions and asked for discernment, read scripture and in this i saw the truth.... I had been deceived by satan.

When I got the pm back form vic, it was a a sigh of relief...

you see my first clue should have been, I wanted this gift cuz it was cool and neat, i didnt want it to Glorify God, I wanted so i would sound neat faint2 my friends was speaking in tongues, so i wanted it too doh I was a babe back then and never tested scripture at all, I just looked at my friends and thought it must be okay...we can not look to man we have to read God's Word

satan is a copy cat, he likes to take God's Word and twist it to suit him. This is how he deceives us, thru twisting the Word of God and we fall for it..

more than ever we have to start listening to the Holy Spirit and reading God's Word, satan is out to destroy us.... eek

As a former tongue talker, I can relate so totally with you. I prayed, begged, believed, "practiced", and confessed scripture for 3 months before I received tongues. I was ecstatic at the time, but it was contrived

After that moment, I made it a point to chatter in tongues every waking minute for over 7 years

I think most people are convinced it's of God because it appears to be of the Holy Spirit and they are taught this is the reality that one is saved - as if one needs a physical manifestation I was into the most unbelievable doctrines concerning tongues. Wow

I am thrilled that you now know the truth and that God has opened your eyes. As you continue to read and study [and do more research] it will only confirm what a deception today's tongues are.

Vic's articles are fantastic - they helped me beyond anything else and I poured over her stuff for hours trying to make sense of it all. It was very hard to me to give this up. It had been part of my life and I truly believed it was of God. In the end, I let it go totally - how beautiful to know the simplicity of Christ and that when we don't know how to pray, the Holy Spirit of Christ intercedes for us. It's not about us and our babbling, but about Him.
