What does the term ecumenical mean to you? Is it just various denominations united in Christ? is it Christians uniting with non-Christians? is it a good thing?

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

RE: What does ecumenical mean to you?
If we look at the nature of the unity and the means used (bad means corrupt good ends in my opinion) , ecumenicism is denominations huddling together in a corner because of falling numbers, now that the world thinks them irrelevant.

I think them irrelevant also, though for different reasons

I do hold that unity is made an idol of by these churches. After all St Paul said in one of his letters that there will be factions among you to show who is approved.

I dont oppose the ecumentical movement. I simply ignore it.

BTW, I found this tidbit hilarious. In our country at least the symbol for ecumencism is the little boat with the greek words oikou mene.

What is funny, as my greek lecturer pointed out all those years ago, is that the way it is spelled it does not mean "all the inhabited world" ie unity, it means STAY AT HOME. As one word it is spelled with the long e not the short one and means what it should mean, but when split into two words, as it was with the cross rising up from the boat and splitting theword in two, the word mene is the imperative of the verb to stay and oikou by itself, here in the genitive, means house or home

RE: What does ecumenical mean to you?
"Ecumenical" means that people are getting together to worship themselves. Isn't that the most popular religion? I'm sure it is, because the Truth is never well accepted among men. Avoid those relgious leaders who have large followings of lawless believers, because people accept what is of the world and not of God. When the world gets along together, you know that "God's gonna cut 'em down" (Genesis 11:9, Tower of Babel).

Acts 9:5
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:
IT IS HARD FOR THEE TO KICK AGAINST THE PRICKS.

Revelation 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord,
which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
