Excellent series of articles, Vic.

They answer the same old declarations Messyantics make:
we need to get back to "our" Jewish roots, you have to read
the bible with a "Hebraic" mindset (I have yet to truly understand
what that means)and Christianity is full of "paganism".
All of which is utter garbage, of course.

Thank you so much SheitlQueen. It's time intensive because of trying to address the many beliefs, but it is really necessary, as so many try to avoid the issues by rewording the arguments for their particular group. The hebraic mindset Laughing ---apparently if you as a practicing Jew don't have one...how can gentiles have one.... Biggrin

Thank you Mary. Smiley_65 Just so you know, I am planning to put the series into pdf form when it's complete for easier download, printing and distribution. Hopefully it will help some involved. Bee Sheep and Rose have been helping and contributing much also. Their knowledge has been invaluable in pulling it all together. And so much still to do... Sheep 4lqqtqv

1 Corinthians 11:5-7 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

Does this still apply to modern women? Do we have to cover our heads every time we pray? I always wear a bandana (with a flag on it, of course) or a hat of some sort except when I go to bed, but is it required that women have their heads covered even in their own house?

Well there are many differing opinions.

Paul also said--and this is merely an extension of that teaching:

1Co 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
1Co 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
1Co 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
1Co 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

There is a lot of contention over this issue with some people. Not just the women being covered---and that is what a lot of many viewpoints focus on--the women being covered, but also on the issue of length of hair, for men and women. Some believe the covering is merely one's hair-other's believe it is a hat of some sort....
But Paul states, that if someone is contentious about it---then there is no custom for it. In other words people can go according to conscience and it isn't worth fighting about. But people do.

I believe the issue of hair covering that Paul was referring to was strictly to do with when they prayed or prophesied, as that is what is stated in v 5-7. It has nothing to do with covering one's head simply on a day to day basis.

I also know there are many who disagree and for them it is a major issue and they feel it shows one's spirituality. Unlike Paul, they believe it must be a custom/commandment for belivers in Scripture and for the church.
