How does one find a Biblical spouse?
I used to think that the Bible was sexist because it appeared to me (erroneously) to be saying that men are supposed to dominate women and women are supposed to just sit and take being run over roughshod. God eventually showed me through more reading that the husband and wife have different roles that complement each other, and that the husband is an analogy of Christ as the wife is an analogy of the Church. Christ was a gentle Man, but He was a Gentleman toward girls and women as well, which is proven by His raising the little girl from the dead, sparing and forgiving the adulteress, freeing Mary Magdalene of demons, His dealings with Martha and Mary, et cetera. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that Jesus was a cruel dictator toward women or toward the believers who became the Church, in fact His gentleness toward women is found throughout the Gospels.

I want to get married to a guy like the one described in Ephesians 5 who aspires to be a type of Christ and doesn't rule over me with a cat o' nine tails (figurative or literal). I would like to have a man who will read Scripture to me and follow the instructions given by God to married men. If anything the man has a lot more to live up to than the wife, and part of my role is to support and encourage him. And of course both partners are commanded to keep each other sexually happy--this really surprised me when I read 1 Corinthians 7:3, and a lot of the Song of Songs (which I believe was included in Scripture by God to demonstrate that married people are meant to enjoy lovemaking).

My main obstacle is not knowing how and where to find a man like this. I know they exist because I've met and spoken with lots of happily married people. There is no way on earth I will have kids, so I can concentrate my "familial" love on my man and keep him happy. I would be thanking God every day for giving him to me. Th_smiley-hug

(Of course he must be Canadian, preferably named Neil. LMAO )

25r30wi Neil and Canadian? Laughing

You know what, you don't have to search for that person. What you need to do is seek God's will in it, and let His will be done. Asking Him if it is His will for you to have a husband, that He will not only prepare you to be that person's wife, but that He will prepare that man to be your husband. And always that it would be in God's perfect timing. I think the key is accepting the time frame God may have in mind and the reality He may say not now. And you have to be willing to say, that man can be from wherever God brings Him and his name just might not be Neil--and that will be ok. But, God also likes to give us the desires of our that align with His will, so it wouldnt' be a huge surprise if someday a man named Neil came along and who knows...he might even be Canadian. The thing is, accept that you have prayed about it, and left it in God's hands, keep praying (without ceasing) and thanking God that He hears your prayers and answers, in His timing and His way. And also pray that He will change your thinking to accept whatever He has in store in this matter and any others. And that you pray according to His will.
