The only one I can easily recall is #22, of course because it begins "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?" There are several other ones but I remember reading Psalm 22 when I was a little kid bored while in church and looking through the KJV for the verses my mom would read to me at home, e.g. Psalm 23. I wondered at the time why Psalm 22:1 said the same thing Jesus said just before dying on the cross. Decades later I was reading a study KJV that said in the comments on the verse (not verbatim), "A Christian cannot read this verse without thinking of Jesus' words on the cross." That made sense (and there must have been some reason I was drawn to that verse).
Well? Which other Psalms prophesy Jesus' future life and work on earth?

RE: Messianic Psalms
There's so many messianic prophecies, not just in Psalms, but here's a few to think about:
We probably should break down Psalm 2 and 22 and show the cross references of them. But will start with this Psa 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psa 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Psa 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. Act 2:25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Act 2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Act 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Act 2:28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Act 2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Act 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; Act 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. Act 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Act 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Act 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Act 2:35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Mar 12:35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. Mar 12:37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. Psa 110:1 <A Psalm of David.> The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Vic SeekGod.ca 3John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. RE: Messianic Psalms
I wasn't familiar with #16, but that is the sort of parallel I meant, i.e. a passage in Psalms having a cross-reference in the NT (often verbatim in the KJV). It startled me to see "For David speaketh concerning him" in Acts 2:25.

RE: Messianic Psalms
Most of the Psalms are about the Messiah and events in his life. "in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned when as yet there was none of them." " Then said I, lo I come, in the volume of the book it is written of me"

RE: Messianic Psalms
Hey LM, I was thinking of posting some more on this. THen I discovered, that many people think that all the Psalms speak of Christ, and so am wondering if we should in fact study them all. The messianic psalms that most identify as such, we can cover here. But maybe we need to expand our understanding.
I was compiling a list of the ones commonly viewed as the Messianic ones: Psalms 2, 8,16, 22,31,34,40, 41, 45, 68, 69, 102, 110, 118... So was thinking we should do a little more indepth on each and a lot more cross referencing into NT. What do you think? Vic SeekGod.ca 3John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. |

RE: Messianic Psalms
That was what I was thinking, the prophecies in Psalms that Jesus fulfilled/reiterated. I had no idea that 118 was a Messianic Psalm.

RE: Messianic Psalms
Psalm 2
Psa 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Psa 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. TSK is Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge. Just using that cross reference as a starting point. THis is not including the cross references to a lot of OT prophecies. Act 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. Act 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, Act 4:28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. I thought once people have a chance to do a little study on this, if we want to talk about any specific verse we could, before I post in the next psalm on the list.
