Blessing and Cursing

People can bless and curse other people, but how are these words defined? Occultists, New Agers and Pagans can transfer their curses and demonic powers through laying on of hands (among other means), but is this what Scripture means by cursing somebody? Is telling somebody "go to hell" or "I hate you" cursing them, along with wishing they were dead?

Similarly, how do people bless other people? By asking God to bless them and saying "God bless you"? No, I am not being sarcastic (for a change).
