About
Mel
Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ"
March
2, 2004
Since
the release of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The
Christ", movie goers and non attending individuals
are making increasing public comments via forums and
emails. For some, a dividing line is being drawn based
on approval of the movie.
Many,
due to the "revival" and "evangelism
concept", are offended that "The Passion of
The Christ", which presents another gospel and
another Jesus, could be viewed as anything less than God
given. And that concept is being promoted by the
thousands of pastors and organizational leadership who
have embraced this movie as Gospel and true, including
the Jesus in it, to be equivalent to the way it really
was.
To
that end, it seems appropriate to include various
comments, to get a glimpse of how people are accepting
this new Hollywood and Catholic gospel. As shown in my
original article, both Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel, who
plays Jesus, are strong Catholics, Jim attesting to
accepting both Jesus and Mary into his heart. Mel Gibson
has also, besides being a Traditionalist Catholic,
prayed the Fifteen Prayers of St. Bridget, since he was
35. Those issues are discussed in the original article: A
Different View of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The
Christ".
This
writer personally has received comments thanking me for
the research articles I have presented on this site
concerning "The Passion of The Christ". One
comment, however revealed something that is beginning to
permeate many minds. It goes something like this:
"...
I understand your concern on inaccuracy and errors.
... No movie can depict what Christ did for us on that
day, yet you took a movie that could change lives and
nullified it's effect. ... Funny how your objective is
that of the Jews, Muslims, and Atheists alike. If you
cannot accept this mighty work of God for what it is
than I cannot do more than pray for you, but God has
spoken to the world and I will not allow you to freely
tell them to ignore what God has revealed to them.
That is a work of the devil! Your attitude is worse
than that of the pagan world we live in. Your tongue
professes deceit and your mind has been twisted by the
devil himself. Take back your words!"
What
is noteworthy that many reporters have given less than
glowing reports, as revealed in the previous article, Comments
About Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The
Christ". It
is doubtful they are being told to 'Take back your
words!" Apparently
sharing the love of Jesus Christ and the
"evangelistic opportunity" is only for those
who attend the movie.
Others
are calling analysis that is less than promotional to
the movie, or individuals not endorsing it, as being
enemies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Others call those
who do not endorse it, 'bashing this work of God' and
some are being banned from forums or forbidden to say
anything negative about the movie. The question does
become -- who then is to be evangelized, to what and by
whom.
One person commented on the success of
The Passion movie by saying:
Matthew 4:8 Again the Devil takes Him to a very high mountain, and shows to Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 And he said to Him. I will give all these things to You if falling down, You will worship me.
10 Then Jesus said to him, Go, Satan! For it has been written: "You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve Him only." Deut. 6:13
" And he said to Him. I will give all these things to You if falling down, You will worship me."
Or Mary or saints or etc, because any worship that is not directed to God or Jesus, goes to the enemy by default. If you worship a coke bottle, he gets it.
Since Mel has made his money back, will he show the movie now for free out of his concern for the "lost"?

"The
movie should be called THE PASSION OF THE POPE...and
information coming from the gospels according to mel
gibson. This movie hardly follows the four gospels...It
has a strong Catholic influence and in my
opinion is a perversion to Gods word...People are
worshiping this movie as thou its really Jesus up there
on the cross...People are idolizing mel gibson and jim
caviesel...Last time I knew idolatry was wrong....I
follow Jesus..."

Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

"I
have many conduits to the Lord . . . Mr. Gibson’s
movie taught me many things about Christ’s suffering.
Yes, Mr. Gibson took some “artistic license” – but
he is the artist and he is allowed to do so. The
“Holy artworks” done my Michael Angelo are not even
close to being biblical – does that make them any less
beautiful? Should he be condemned since his
paintings are not scriptural to my interpretation?
I could go on and on – but I guess I can’t make my
point any more clear…"

"This
movie is one of the best things our society needs right
now. I think a ton of non-believers will go just to
check it out and see what all the talk is about and
hopefully it will really open people's eyes and make
some people try to seek God and His way of life.
Something that's controversial always attracts attention
and what more could believers want than to attract
people's attention to the story of God? Hopefully it
turns out to be as good as some of the reviews say it
is. God Bless and enjoy the movie!"

"The
movie, Titanic, was the largest grossing film in US
box-office history. It brought in over $600,000,000. If
you want to send a message to Hollywood to let them know
that you want to see more movies like "The Passion
of The Christ" that inspire love and self-sacrifice
for others, let's get everyone to turn out to see this
film! If the movie is in 2,000 theaters and the average
theater holds about 300 people and the average movie
ticket price is $10, we need to fill each screening of
the film 100 times. If people see it twice, then we only
need to fill theaters 50 times. If people see it 4
times, that's only 25 times! Not only that, while the
movie will be 2,000 theaters, some theaters will
probably carry it on more than one screen, so there is
even more potential for people to see the film! Let's
send out a message to the world that we really do want
to see movies like this! Then we can only expect to see
the film industry to start making wholesome films like
this one."

1 Timothy 6: 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
15 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

"This is the problem when people use extrabiblical sources and present it as Gospel. There is no Jesus AND, because He is the Word made manifest. The Catholics have the Bible AND the book of Catechism.
Mel has the Bible AND the book of Catechism AND these writings for his source of Biblical truth."

intend to see the movie several times while it is on the

"The Gospel
according to Hollywood and Catholic Mel Gibson will not
be seen by my family. We have God's word, the
truth and that's all we need. How many
"Christians" know that Gibson believes that we
will all go to heaven, only it will be easier for Mel,
because he's a Catholic? They're not
interested. They just want to run out like a
herd of cattle to feed at the "Christian" fad
trough. I'm not interested in seeing a
depiction of my best Friend being brutalized."
"We live in a
very deceptive, dangerous time. Those who
have been blessed with the Lord's discernment will
weather the storm. The others have already
become part of the world and have lost their testimony.
The "Laodicean" church in America is

"....
To criticize the film for not being evangelistic is a
non sequitur . . . There were a few inconsistencies
between the film and the gospel account(s), to be sure.
But they were mostly insignificant (e.g., casting Mary
Magdelene as the woman of John 8 who was caught in
adultery). . . There were some minor historical
inaccuracies as well. . . Again, this minutia in no way
detracts from the movie . . . I particularly liked the
Satan character..."

15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. [KJV]

perfect evangelistic "tool" ever given . .
.His sacrifice is explained and defined in a way that no
other medium can even come close - in His Word . . . His
Word is a consuming fire . . . What is there about His
Word, that is not enough?"

Hebrews

"The
Catholics continue to kill Christians just as they did
back in the Dark Ages, only this time it is being done
spiritually instead of physically. The Passion of the
Christ should be called the Passion of the Antichrist or
at least the Passion of the Christ and Mary. When one
compares the details of this movie to the truth of the
Scriptures, one will find out that the details clash.
This movie is putting forth a portrayal of the
antichrist and Mary, not the Christ of the Scriptures .
. . it is a movie that lifts the Catholic Christ
and hides the true Christ. If anyone 'receives Christ'
because of this movie, they will receive the spirit of
antichrist, again as the Scriptures state in I John
4:1-3 . . . What has happened to God's Words - why must
we allow Hollywood to be our final authority?"

James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
[KJV]
===========
"...The
movie will be, and has been, a tool for use by
Bible-believing Christians to lead the un-churched to
Christ. Thank God for the movie. People will complain
over anything, won't they? They'll even complain when
Christ comes back. I said it once and I'll say it again,
Be careful not to blaspheme what God is doing!!! Don't
be a stumbling block to the lost."
===========
"...And
I have followed you before and will do so again after
the outlandish remark that we critics are committing
blasphemy and are being stumbling blocks for opposing a
movie. I felt you owed all of us an apology after your
first tirade. Not only did we not get that apology, but
you lamblast us again.
Folks, it is a movie. A movie by Mel Gibson, a Catholic.
A movie with non-biblical content. An R rated
movie...."
===========
"I am not "bashing" anything. I am testing all things as commanded, and this movie flunked the test. For those who think that all paths lead to God, if you get on that ecumenical super highway, you will find that you are in a race car with no brakes.
I love the Catholics, but I am not interested in becoming one, or accepting errant and mystical doctrine as truth.
Narrow is the path...."

"Hebrews
6:6 that says crucifying Christ again exposes Him to
open shame. Few seem to care, tho . . . They want an
action-packed movie to stun them and make them cry. "
===========
"...God
clearly does not mix His Truth with untruth and man's
speculation. He is a jealous God, so He does not promote
Idol worship [Mary]. By God's own standard [His Word]
this movie is not of Him. Will He use it? He is God, He
is sovereign, and He is on the Throne. Is it in His
perfect will? Decide by His Word."

John

"Now
that has to be more shocking than anything that is in
the movie!
Because we disagree with an R rated movie, that comes

Timothy 3: 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

"...Catholicism
is not the gospel of the Bible, it is another gospel.
Preaching another gospel is a stumbling block to the
lost. I heard on the news that the entire cast went to
mass every day and many of them had not been in church
in years. This was applauded as if it were a good thing.
The problem is, in the mass they believe they are eating
the literal flesh and blood of Christ and they are
sacrificing Him all over again. To this, Hebrews 6 DOES
apply....Someone else said that if we disagree we should
keep it to ourselves and not push our agenda on everyone
else. Well, there are errors in this film and to suggest
that christians have no right to speak out against
it...how christian and biblical is that?..."

"Do
I need to see two hours of Jesus getting graphically
tortured to fully understand his love for me?"
===========
"...but
another thing he skipped out was the part of Joseph of
Arimathea seeking permission for Jesus' body to be taken
down. there wasn't enuff time for that as Mel rushed to
get straight to this icon of Tradition Romanism--the
Pieta tableau. down came the body fr the cross n into
Mary's hands, n presto, the perfect Michaelangelo statue
pose straight outta St Peter's Basilica."
===========
"I
repeat: distortion #4776547847663746578 of the Passion
film = Mary touching dead body."
===========
"I
will not being seeing this movie. It is purely Roman
Catholic, filled with Roman Catholic dogma, and is
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for those who do not know the gospel
accounts, it is blasphemous, and it is Roman Catholic
propaganda. I am shocked and in disbelief, at how many
people here are condoning such a movie. There are many
articles that have been written about this movie, and
the dangers of it."
===========
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
===========
"It
is a sad day indeed when Bible-believing Christians turn
to Hollywood and Roman Catholicism to help evangelize a
lost world"
===========
"Sadly,
there is a great danger that Christians may now make a
habit of going to a theatre for their theology &
inspiration (Gibson speaks of other follow-up movies
about the Bible) and they may become numb or lethargic
to the preaching of the cross by a Spirit-filled
preacher."
===========
"Did
you notice the juxtaposition of Mary and Satan? Do you
understand the implication of this? Mary is sustaining
Christ and thereby has a part in salvation. The mere
intimation of this is blatant heresy and too dangerous
to tolerate. How can any discerning, God-fearing,
Bible-believing, born-again Christian support Mel
Gibson’s travesty? Are we so inundated with postmodern
relativism, political correctness, and feelings
orientation that we have lost all discernment and
knowledge of Biblical doctrine? This mockery of Bible
doctrine will not evangelize poor, lost sinners but it
will proselyte them into the entangled web of deception
of Roman Catholicism, thus making them fourfold the
child of Hell. Stop, think, and compare with Scriptural
teaching (i.e. doctrine, not story line or narrative)
before recommending this charade for the destruction of
lost people."
===========
"By
going to the "P" movie, Christians are letting
the whole world and Hellywood know that we don't know
our Bibles very well....and we can be duped by any
marketing ploy that a crazed filmmaker wants to foist on
us . . . That we seek to be ENTERTAINED by sloppy
depictions of serious spiritual events, stun us, make us
cry and weep into our popcorn, getting it all soggy, we
will cry as we slurp our sodas."
===========
2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
[KJV]
===========
"Some
schmuck in a hollywood office decides that he can
"improve" on the truth, "enhance"
the actual facts, "expand" upon the reality,
and it is usually sappy romantic or gratuitous violence
that they add, to put more bottoms in the seats of
theaters."
===========
"This
movie has catholic imagery start to finish, and scenes
based on the visions of two catholic mystics. I am
surprised how many Baptists are glassy eyed over this
movie. It is inaccurate not only historically, but
scripturally as well. The part I liked best was when
Pilate kept switching from what was termed by the promo
site as first century aramaic, to latin while speaking
to the Jews."
===========
"Gibson’s
film is a spiritual horror movie to gratify the
spiritual thrill-seeker with the graphic and gory
details of our Lord’s physical suffering . . .
Clucking and shaking his head, the religious experience
seeker piously intones, “I can’t believe He did that
for me—I never realized it until now.” The problem
is that he doesn’t know. Man cannot graphically show
or know the extent of Christ’s sufferings."
===========
"...I had
concerns going in, but the emotion that ran through me
while watching it was just indescribable....I don't
think I fully understand the physical suffering because
I don't think the movie even scratched the surface of
what He actually went through. But...I now have more of
a picture of what He faced than I did before..."
===========
2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

One
forum posed the question: What's
your opinion on the movie The Passion of the Christ?
(for people who watched it only...)
"I was nervous
all day before I saw it. I took my Rosary in the theater
with me and started praying 15 minutes before the show
started, and a little bit during the film."
"I personaly loved it, it was the best movie I've
ever seen."
"The
most powerful movie ever. I hesitate to call it a movie
because it seemed like more. An accurate depiction of
the most important event in the history of the world. I
just got back from the movie so I am still sort of
speechless."
"I
just got back as well. It was the most powerful movie
I've ever seen, like ps139, I am still pretty much
speechless."
"It was the most
powerful movie I've seen. I was speechless also for so
long afterward. I pray a revival across this world from
this movie."
"I ended up
coming out of this with so much more. Yes there were
things not found in the gospels, but in no way did they
take away from the gospels. The imagry was amazing. I
cried, I smiled, I was angry, I felt guilty, I wanted to
run up there and stop what was going on. I couldn't
watch, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I love it for
what it is Mels adaptation of the cruxifiction, a
possibility historically and biblically and from ones
imagination...."
"It took me a little
over a day to take it all in. I was in a state of shock.
... I loved it!"

Timothy 4:2-4
2.
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
