Harry Potter: The Fruitless Deeds of Darkness

2

Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets

Proverbs 2:6-15

'For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;  Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; 15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:"

This is the record of the second year of Harry attending Hogwart's School of Wizardry and Witchcraft.  During the school year, certain students are seriously attacked, and although none were killed, the victims were petrified, literally.  Demon possession and demonic activity is presented.

p. 8-- Uncle refers to witchcraft as an abnormality--it's not, it's a spiritual choice.

p. 9   Muggles defined and history of Harry presented "...The Dursley's were...Muggles (not a drop of magical blood in their veins)...and as far as they were concerned, having a wizard in the family was a matter of deepest shame....At the age of one, Harry had somehow survived a curse from the greatest dark sorcerer of all time, Lord Voldemort, whose name most witches and wizards still feared to speak...Voldemort's powers had been destroyed the instant he had failed to kill Harry..."

Greatest is used to describe both the 'good' wizard Dumbledore and also the 'bad' Voldemort. It implies a sense of reverence to their individual powers--which comes from the same source.

Dobby--house elf--elves are demons or familiar spirits.

p. 24--flying car--levitation is due to demonic spirits--even if this is meant to be amusing. The car was stolen and they were planning to lie about it. The end is supposed to justify the means.

p. 27 "...[family] ghoul in the attic and gnomes all over the garden. House-elves come with big old manors and castles..." Dictionary def. of Ghoul---"in Oriental stories, a horrible demon, believed to feed on corpses. 2.  a person who robs graves or corpses 3. a person who enjoys what is revolting, brutal and horrible.."

Applying the Word of God, Phil. 4: 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

How can any Christian suggest that these things stand the test of the Word of God or as Connie Neal has said, "the moral world of Harry Potter is in keeping with what the Bible reveals about the nature of good and evil."? Evil is being presented as good--that is not in keeping with the Bible.

p. 31 "...singing sorceress, Celestina Warbeck.'"

p. 34. '...Muggles...they'll go to any lengths to ignore magic, even if it's staring them in the face."

In reality this is more accurate than one can believe. Only, we need to define magic as witchcraft. And people are going to great lengths to pretend that Harry Potter and other sources of the occult are not about the occult or witchcraft. In fact this concept is quite Scriptural:

2 Thessalonians 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

p. 37--talking mirror--mirrors are doorways to the otherworld or used for divination which involves the demonic.

p. 38 Second year student curriculum--

The Standard Book of Spells , Grade 2 by Miranda Goshawk

Break With A Banshee by Gilderoy Lockhart - Banshee is one of the elemental spirits or demons. A female spirit in Gaelic folklore, that is, witchcraft, it is believed to presage a death in the family by wailing outside the house.

Gadding With Ghouls by Gilderoy Lockhart - Dictionary Definition of a Ghoul: Ghoul---"in Oriental stories, a horrible demon, believed to feed on corpses. 2.  a person who robs graves or corpses 3. a person who enjoys what is revolting, brutal and horrible.." "evil spirit".  The word, "gadding",  is "to roam about aimlessly or restlessly; to go about in search of pleasure or entertainment."

Holidays With Hags by Gilderoy Lockhart - Dictionary Definition: "A very ugly old woman, especially one who is vicious or malicious; a witch, a sorceress; a female demon  [related to witch, fury] ."

According to Oxford online http://www.askoxford.com/dictionary/witch--hag is another name for witch--"1 woman supposed to have dealings with Devil or evil spirits. 2 old hag. 3 fascinating girl or woman. witchcraft 1 use of magic. 2 bewitching charm. witch-doctor tribal magician of primitive people.

·1enchantress, sibyl, sorceress. 2crone, gorgon, hag, harridan, shrew, virago. witchcraft 1black magic, charms, enchantment, incantations, magic, necromancy, the occult, occultism, sorcery, spells, voodoo, witchery, wizardry

It's noteworthy that the divination teachers name is Sibyl, which name is also found in Greek Mythology as a prophetess.

Travels With Trolls by Gilderoy Lockhart - a troll is an Elemental spirit--demon. "A hideous , evil earth-demon of Teutonic mythology, living in caves." [Burns p.75]

Voyages With Vampires by Gilderoy Lockhart - Dictionary Definition of a vampire:  "supposed ghost or reanimated corpse sucking blood of sleeping people. 2 person who preys on others..."

Wanderings With Werewolves  by Gilderoy Lockhart-- Dictionary Definition of a werewolf:  "Mythology human being who changes into wolf.."  Shapeshifting is a belief that suggests that each person has an animal personality or inheritance that indwells them. In shamanism the animal or creature becomes their spirit guide --demon-- through meditation. Native lore suggests that seeing a particular animal means a particular message. In Harry Potter, McGonagall was a cat--sacred to occultists, there was also mention of a werewolf, dog, rat, and stag and vampires. One website promoting shape-shifting says that it has to start "in the imagination" and that shapeshifting can only take place through the mind and spirit.

p. 42-43 Harry is in a "dark arts' shop--grotesque and of the real occult--

"...nothing in here was ever likely to be on a Hogwart's school list. A glass case nearby held a withered hand on a cushion, a blood-stained pack of cards and a staring glass eye. Evil-looking masks leered down from the walls, an assortment of human bones lay upon the counter and rusty spike instruments hung from the ceiling... [owner of shop Borgin and Burkes -Mr. Borgin--name taken perhaps from Lizzie Borden and her murdered family].."...Draco pointing at the withered hand on its cushion. 'Ah, the Hand of Glory!' said Mr. Borgin...Insert a candle and it gives light only to the holder! Best friend of thieves and plunderers!...dingy alleyway that seemed to be made up entirely of shops devoted to the dark arts. ..but opposite was a nasty window display of shrunken heads, and two doors down, a large cage was alive with giant black spiders... a shop selling poisonous candles... a  tray of what looked like whole human fingernails..."

Think carefully--"assortment of human bones," evil masks, shrunken heads, a real withered hand, human fingernails---where do occultists obtain human bones, skulls and other body parts in real life? Ask police officers whose specialty is occult ritual crimes. Aside from that, if we're to think on the things that are lovely and pure--which part of that description fits?

p. 59-60  'The tree they had hit was attacking them. Its trunk was bent almost double, and its gnarled boughs were pummelling every inch of the car it could reach.... Reverse!' Harry yelled, and the car shot backwards...Well done car..."

The car went on its own--rather, in the occult it would be by demonic control, and literally dumped the boys out and took off. The tree also would be attacking through demonic control with nature spirits. There have been several horror movies made depicting a demon possessed car and it's attacks on people. This isn't new occultism, rather, it's just presented to a younger crowd.

Ceiling of the Great Hall inside the main building of Hogwarts was "bewitched" so that it looked exactly as the conditions outside, giving the impression that there was no roof, that you were looking straight up into the heavens and seeing the stars.

p. 72 Imagery and message---"Mandrake, or Mandragora is a powerful restorative... used to return people who have been transfigured or cursed, back to their original state." p. 73 "Instead of roots, a small muddy and extremely ugly baby popped out of the earth. The leaves were growing right out of his head. He had pale green, mottled skin, and was clearly bawling at the top of his longs...plunged the Mandrake into it, burying him in dark, damp compost..."

The root of a Mandrake Plant is depicted as a human baby that is in essence, being buried alive. The Mandrake is supposed to grow to late teens before the plant comes to maturity and it's cry is said to be fatal. When mature the root of the Mandrake is cut up and stewed to make the Restorative Potion--imagery of human sacrifice or how disposable babies are and even the concept of fetal organ harvesting.  Mandrake is actually a narcotic.

p. 78  Lockhart's desired birthday gift "would be harmony between all magic and non-magic peoples-though I wouldn't say no to Ogden's Old Firewhiskey."

How New Age! Harmony and peace between those who follow the god of this world and those who follow Jesus Christ. Harmony and peace between witches who are an abomination to God according to Scriptural truth, and those who reject witchcraft as that abomination. It cannot happen but it is the ideal the occultists, UN One World Religion and others are pursuing. Except, Christians will never be a part of that system.

As far as an adult --a teacher at that--asking, what are portrayed as teenage students, for whiskey as a birthday present--does anything need to be said???

p. 78. [Lockhart teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts] "...It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizardkind! You may find yourselves facing your worst fears in this room. Know only that no harm can befall you whilst I am here..."

The presentation of good and bad evil permeates the books. Fear is presented as normal and valid, as is depending on the occult and powerful good wizards to protect oneself. Jesus is our protection and there is no good occultism or witchcraft. Fear is also not of God.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

p. 79  Demonic activity "...Cornish pixies [---elemental spirits--demons]...proceeded to wreck the classroom more effectively than a rampaging rhino. They grabbed ink bottles and sprayed the class with them, shredded books and papers, tore pictures from the walls, upended the waste bin, grabbed bags and books and threw them out of the smashed window; ..."

p. 86, 89 Malfoy calls Hermione, "...you filthy little Mudblood." "Mudblood's a real foul name for someone who was Muggle-born--you-know--non-magic parents. There are some wizards--like Malfoy's family--who think they're better than everyone because they're what people call pure-blood.'...Most wizards these days are half-blood anyway. If we hadn't married Muggles we'd've died out."

Racism and presentation that race is based on one's spiritual choices.

p. 87. Imagery---Ron's curse backfires because of his broken wand causing him to vomit black slugs.

"...Whatsoever is lovely..."

p. 88. '..gettin kelpies out a well." --kelpies are elemental spirits/demons

p. 92--Imagery and symbolism---Harry hears the voice for the first time. "It was a voice, a voice to chill the bone marrow, a voice of breath-taking, ice-cold venom. 'Come...come to me...let me rip you...let me tear you...let me kill you..." It happens at midnight.

Chapter 8 is called The Deathday Party and revolves around a ghost/demon presented in the first book, Nearly Headless Nick, ghost of Gryffindor Tower. Deathday is the day the 'person' supposedly died or was killed--and all the demons/ghosts in the books appear to have been murdered or met a violent death. Nick's real name was Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington, who died in a botched execution on October 31, 1492. Nick occasionally "entertained" at the Halloween feasts by reenacting his beheading. Harry enters into several lengthy discussion with this 'familiar spirit.'

p.95 Imagery--grotesque and macabre-and Harry communicates with this familiar spirit-

"...He wore a dashing, plumed hat on his long curly hair, and a tunic with a ruff, which concealed the fact that his neck was almost completely severed. He was pale as smoke, ...

"You look troubled, young Potter, " said Nick, folding a transparent letter as he spoke and tucking it inside his doublet. 'So do you, ' said Harry.

"Ah,' Nearly headless Nick ...thought I'd apply, but apparently I "don't fulfill the requirements".' ...'But you would think, wouldn't you,' he erupted suddenly, pulling the letter back out of his pocket,' that getting hit forty-five times in the neck with a blunt axe would qualify you to join the Headless Hunt?'

'Oh-yes.' said Harry,...

'I mean, nobody wishes more than I do that it had all been quick and clean, and my head had come off properly, I mean, it would have saved my a great deal of pain and ridicule. However...' Nearly Headless Nick shook his letter open and read furiously,

'We can only accept huntsmen whose heads have parted company with their bodies. You will appreciate that it would be impossible for members to participate in hunt activities such as Horseback Head-Juggling and Head Polo...'

'Half an inch of skin and sinew holding my neck on, Harry! Most people would think that's good and beheaded..."

This is a very clear example of necromancy--communicating with the dead--and speaking to a familiar spirit. A necromancer is a wizard or sorcerer.

p. 97  Peeves, the school's poltergeist/demon, "a grinning airborne menace who lived to cause havoc and distress. Harry didn't much like Peeves, but couldn't help feeling grateful for his timing."

Thankful to a demon?!!

p. 97 'KWIKSPELL, A correspondence course in Beginner's Magic"

--presents the option that one can learn witchcraft--not just at school.

p. 98,  Harry's ungodly character again---"No," Harry lied quickly.

p. 99  Nearly Headless Nick , a demon 'helps Harry,' giving the appearance there are good demons and bad demons, and good ones can be our friends, be helpful and can talk to us ---

"I persuaded Peeves to crash it right over Filch's office,' said Nick eagerly...'Was that you?' said Harry gratefully..."  "I wish there was something I could do for you about the Headless Hunt,' Harry said. Nearly Headless Nick stopped in his tracks and Harry walked walked right through him. He wished he hadn't; it was like stepping through an icy shower. ..."Well, this Hallowe'en will be my five hundredth deathday,' said Nearly Headless Nick, drawing himself up and looking dignified...I'm holding a party down in one of the roomier dungeons. Friends will be coming from all over the country..."

Nick then proceeds to invite Harry, Ron and Hermione to the 'party.'.

p. 100- Imagery and symbolism-"...George Weasley, trying to find out what would happen if you fed a Filibuster Firework to a a Salamander"--salamander is an elemental spirit/demon for fire.

p. 101--- Imagery and symbolism---Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday party on Halloween, "jet-black tapers, all burning bright blue...The dungeon was full of  hundreds of pearly-white translucent people...black candles...Their breath rose in a mist before them; it was like stepping into a freezer... " All in attendance were demons.

p. 101 -102, 118, Moaning Myrtle -demon who possessed the Girls Bathroom so violently that none of the students could use the bathroom. She had been murdered and was described as a "squat ghost of a girl". She thought of herself as fat, ugly, miserable, moaning, and moping, pimply and was presented as a familiar spirit, as are the many ghosts written into the story. All communicate verbally with the witches and wizards, which is based on real witchcraft.

p. 103 -104  Imagery---At Nick's Deathday party, "Through the dungeon wall burst a dozen ghost horses, each ridden by a headless horseman. ...The Horses galloped into the middle of the dance floor and halted, rearing and plunging; a large ghost at the front, whose bearded head was under his arm, blowing the horn, leapt down and lifted his head high in the air so he could see over the crowd...Sir Patrick and the rest of the Headless Hunt had just started a game of Headless Hockey ..."

Consider the grotesque imagery--beheaded demons who we're supposed to find amusing and who play hockey with their decapitated skulls. The occultism behind "heads" goes back to, for example, the 5th Century Celts who were, in fact, head-hunters. They worshipped the heads that they had severed, believing them to hold a powerful force, which would be why Nick was considered a failure in that his head was not completely severed. In Scripture, Saul is beheaded by the Philistines and his head put in the temple of Dagon. It has not been an uncommon pagan practice. Interesting too is the fact that this imagery is presented as something good and desired, when beheading is the prophesied punishment for those who reject the mark of the beast.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

p. 104-106 Occult imagery and violence---Harry hears the voice again, which no one else can hear "'...rip...tear...kill...' It was the same voice, the same cold, murderous voice he had heard in Lockhart's office...'soo hungry...for so long...'...'...kill...time to kill...'.... growing fainter still, he heard the voice:'...I smell blood...I SMELL BLOOD!'  his stomach lurched. 'It's going to kill someone! he shouted...Foot high words had been daubed on the wall between two windows...THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED, ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE....Mrs. Norris, the caretaker's cat, was hanging by her tail from the torch bracket. She was stiff as a board, her eyes wide and staring... Then someone shouted... 'Enemies of the Heir beware! You'll be next Mudbloods!' It was Draco Malfoy... he grinned at the sight of the hanging, immobile cat..."

p. 109-110 -- Squib--"someone who was born into a wizarding family but hasn't got any magic powers. Kind of the opposite of Muggle-born wizards..."

p. 112-114 --Imagery, symbolism and messages---

History of Magic, taught by ghost/demon--Professor Binns --mentions "Sardinian sorcerers"

...."don't legends always have a basis in fact.?'"

"'...Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago...by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. The four houses are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Sytherin. They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people and witches and wizards suffered much persecution.'

....'Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted...He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. He disliked taking students of Muggle parentage, believing them to be untrustworthy...Slytherin left the school....The story goes Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in the castle, of which the other founders knew nothing. Slytherin according to legend, sealed the Chamber of Secrets so that none would be able to open it until his own true heir arrived at the school. The heir alone would be able to unseal the Chamber of Secrets, unleash the horror within and use it to purge the school of all who were unworthy to study magic." p. 120 "Who'd want all the Squibs and Muggle-borns out of Hogwarts?'

Keeping magic or witchcraft hidden is precisely what the 'occult' is about. However, as time grows short, witchcraft and the occult have opened up with blatant occultism the order of the day. And it's accepted by the average person, who has become so desensitized through the various media, that they do not recognize it for what it is. Nor do most Christians. That is precisely why articles like this are written.

p. 115  false gods and message---"what exactly do you mean by the 'horror within' the Chamber?' 'That is believed to be some sort of monster, which the heir of Slytherin alone can control..."  ...Parvati Patil, 'you'd probably have to use Dark Magic to open it--'  "Just because a wizard doesn't use Dark Magic, doesn't mean he can't...' "

Hence, Rowling presents the concept of Good and dark magic to be determined by choice. However, there is no dividing line in reality, although many in witchcraft like to think they practice 'good' white magic. It's all of the occult. It's witchcraft. It's like being pregnant--you either are or you aren't.

Padma and Parvati Patil were twin students at Hogwarts. Padma is a Hindu goddess who is the twin of Parvati, another Hindu goddess. The goddess Parvati had a son which her husband Shiva became jealous of. Shiva scorched the childs head with the burning rays of his third eye. Parvati was beside herself with grief and Shiva felt guilty and quickly looked around for another head. The nearest animal was an elephant and Shiva gave it's head to the child. The child became the god Ganesha.

Parvati-- Continuing information on the "winged globe" discussed previously, Albert Pike wrote: " Serpents encircling rings and globes, and issuing from globes, are common in the Persian, Egyptian, Chinese and Indian monuments. Vishnu is represented reposing on a coiled serpent...Mahadeva...Bhairava...Parvati has snakes around her neck and waist. Vishnu is the Preserving Spirit, Mahadeva is Siva, the Evil Principle, Bhairava is his son, and Parvati his consort..." [Burns, p. 153, Pike, p. 500]

At the end of the Chamber of Secrets, serpents encircle pillars and one does indeed come out of a statue.

p. 120-121 Hermione, Harry and Ron and their ungodly character--planning to manipulate, deceive,  lie and break rules---'we'd be breaking about fifty school rules.... if we made it sound as though we were just interested in the theory..."

Again, the end justifies the means.

p. 133-134  Imagery--presentation of Harry and his witchcraft as a new dawn and beacon of hope with Harry having wonderful character attributes---

"...Dobby remember how it was when He Who Must Not Be Named was at the height of his powers...life has improved for my kind since you triumphed over He Who Must Not Be Named. Harry Potter survived and the Dark Lord's power was broken, and it was a new dawn, sir, and Harry Potter shone like a beacon of hope for those of us who though the Dark days would never end....." "Harry Potter risks his life for his friends..so noble, so valiant..."

p. 139  Sneaking and rule breaking and depending on witchcraft for protection --"...hidden from the teachers, a roaring trade in talismans, amulets and other protective devices...evil smelling green onion, a pointed purple crystal..."

p. 139 --Hermione, Harry and Ron planning to deceive and steal----Hermione, "...one of us can sneak into Snape's office and take what we need... I think I'd better do the actual stealing..."

p. 141 Duelling Club---using wands to cast spells at each other. Malfoy conjures a black snake as an attack on Harry.

p. 145  "'long black snake...raised itself, ready to strike...it slithered straight towards Justin...fangs exposed, poised to strike...[Harry] ...shouted stupidly at the snake, 'Leave him!' And miraculously--inexplicably- the snake slumped to the floor, docile as a thick black garden hose, its eyes now on Harry...He knew the snake wouldn't attack anyone now...' p. 146 [Ron] 'You're a Parselmouth...You can talk to snakes!' Harry this is bad,'...I heard you speaking Parseltongue, ' said Ron, 'snake language...' p. 147 'I spoke a different language? But--I didn't realise--how can I speak a language without knowing I can speak it?" [Hermione] "...it matters...because being able to talk to snakes was what Salazar Slytherin was famous for. That's why the symbol of Slytherin house is a serpent..." p. 148--'parselmouth is the mark of a dark wizard."

One can't unknowingly speak another tongue unless an indwelling spirit provides the unknown words and takes over one's mind.  The ability to communicate to snakes is relegated to the same type of conversation that Eve had with the serpent in the Garden of Eden. It is not beneficial.

Rowling makes the distinguishing characteristic of Black magic to be speaking to snakes. However, as has been shown, all the practices presented as student studies at Hogwarts are actually part of real witchcraft and Black magic. We do find Rowling's presentation of the snakes, hissing and speaking to them, in voodoo.

Vodun, or voodoo practitioners, over 50 million worldwide, had/have a snake god and speak by hissing. Vodoun is almost universally practiced in Haiti, but also is practiced in many cities of the United States such as New York, New Orleans, Houston, Charleston, South Carolina, and Los Angeles. In the United States it is recognized as a legitimate religion. According to occult tradition,

"...St. Patrick, supposedly banished snakes from Ireland because of the practices.. A slave could publicly be thought to be begging the intercession of St. Patrick while secretly praying to the snake-god Danbhalah-Waldo. Fetishes became unnecessary, even masters were tolerant of slaves keeping a tame snake and lighting candles for the saints. A syncretism evolved: a blending of the traditional Catholic worship of the saints and Christ with the gods of Africa. Eventually Vodounists did not regard this as profaning either Christianity or Vodoun but as an enrichment of their faith.

Danbhala-Wedo, or the Grand Serpent (also called Danballah or Damballah), is the "father" of the loas, which brought forth creation. Before the days of slavery, Africans worshipped a large python, called Danh-gbwe, as an embodiment of the gods. The snake was harmless to humans, and devotees believed that any child touched by the serpent had been chosen to be a priest or priestess by god himself. After being transported to the Americas, the blacks found a substitute in a type of boa. Danbhalah is the oldest of the ancestors and does not speak, only hisses. Langage the sacred language of Vodoun, which represents the long-forgotten African litungy, originates from Danbhalah's hissing. Danbhalah governs the waters of the earth and is also associated with Legba the god of the sun and the way of spiritual communication...." http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/v/vodoun_also_voodoo.html

'But I'm in Gryffindor,' Harry thought. 'The Sorting hat wouldn't have put me in here if I had Slytherin blood...' Ah,' said a nasty little voice in his brain, 'But the Sorting hat wanted to put you in Slytherin...'

Heritage and genealogy are presented as being the indicator for whether a person is good or evil. God's says that has nothing to do with our ability to accept Him or live for Him and all are evil and unrighteous before or until we know Him.

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

p. 152 Imagery-- 'she stopped before a large and extremely ugly stone gargoyle...the gargoyle sprang to life...brass knocker in the shape of a griffon...where Dumbledore lived.

Gargoyle-- is a "demon's head," a grotesquely carved human or animal figure carved on an architectural structure, symbolize the 'forces of the cosmos', or as images of the demonic and dragon-infested underworld.

Griffin as mentioned in part 1, " A griffin is a mythological animal which is meant to have an eagle's front half but a lion's back half. Occult teachings reveal the wicked and blasphemous ideas behind the myth.  "...In European bestiaries the griffin is usually portrayed as awesomely fierce. This bizarre creature was thought to dwell in the mountains, from which it swooped down on its prey; with powerful talons the beast could carry back to its nest a horse and rider — it was said to have a ravenous appetite for both ... Sometimes, griffins were themselves used for transport by the gods; the chariot that bore Nemesis, the ancient Greeks' dreaded goddess of vengeance, was frequently drawn by griffins. ... it was so powerful that parts of its body were greatly prized as talismans against evil and misfortune...in the 14th century, inspired by medieval comparisons of Christ with an eagle and a lion, the Italian poet Dante made the griffin a symbol of Christ. For others, however, the griffin was a demon that carried off sinners..." 10

p. 154 Harry starts to ask the Sorting hat--a familiar spirit--but the demon asks and answers Harry's question for him.

p. 155 -Fawkes the Phoenix bursts into flames and is 'reborn' "Phoenixes burst into flame when it is time for them to die and are reborn from the ashes...they can carry immensely heavy loads, their tears have healing powers and they make highly faithful pets.'"

Rowling presents actual occult lore behind the phoenix. It generally is regarded as representing immortality and resurrection.

p. 157--Message----"what terrible power could harm someone who was already dead?"

The implication is that once physically dead the soul is free or as in this case, presented as a ghost, faces no judgment or problems. The ghost is a demon. All souls will face God's judgment and those who have Jesus Christ as Saviour will spend eternity with Him. Those who do not, will spend eternity in torment.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

p. 161-162-- Harry, Hermione and Ron, drink Polyjuice potion to change into another person--like Jekyll and Hyde

Tom Riddle's diary--aka Voldemort. --blank pages, but when written on , it writes back. Automatic writing is accomplished by a demon.

p. 176 Valentine's day--cupids are dwarfs/demons and cupid is the god eros, the god of love, son of Jupiter and Venus, and depicted naked. He's supposedly rebellious and causes suffering. Another pagan day that Christians and non-Christians alike enjoy.

p. 179---Harry writes in the diary and the diary writes back--automatic writing which is from the demonic. Riddle tells Harry, "I can take you inside my memory...Let me show you..." "The pages of the diary began to blow..stopping...June thirteenth seemed to have turned into a miniscule television screen....before he knew what was happening, he was tilting forwards; the window was widening, he felt his body leave his bed and he was pitched headfirst through the opening the page, into a whirl of color and shadow...."

Harry is shown by the spirit/demon what supposedly happened fifty years ago--it was based on the lie Riddle concocted, according to the rest of the story. This portrays  not only demon possession and divination, but astral projection, discussed previously. Harry never left the room--but was given the illusion of having left, after giving the demon permission to show him 'his memories.'

p. 184--Riddle showing Harry the past--Hagrid is attending the school as a youth and is hiding a pet giant spider, which Riddle allows people to believe is the monster of the Chamber of Secrets.

p. 187--possible subjects of study for the next book/year--Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, Divination--all actual forms of the occult. Runes are the 'letters of witchcraft.'

p. 188 --Hermione reading 'Ancient Runes Made Easy.'

p. 188--Harry hears voice again, although no one else does--'Kill this time...let me rip...tear...'

p. 194--ministry of magic has twelve governors--not unlike a perverted concept of the twelve apostles. Dumbledore is being suspended by Lucious Malfoy--and states..."I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me. You will find that help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it."

Again, the occult is going to protect Harry and is only there for the asking. The loyalty to Dumbledore openly takes on a religious and spiritual aspect. Ask for help--as in a silent prayer--and help will and does arrive for Harry--only it's in the form of witchcraft.

p. 195--[Hagrid] "...follow the spiders..." Spiders are an important aspect of occultism. In Japanese legend giant spiders are demons. Spiders are sacred to the 'god of the dead' in the Aztec myths.

p. 198 Ron's ungodly character re. Draco---"I'm going to kill him with my bare hands"

199. spotted the spiders heading into the Forbidden forest and Harry and Ron plan to sneak out although afraid. Harry comments, "There are good things in there, too. The centaurs are all right and the unicorns."

Affirms certain mythological and occult creatures to be good.

p. 202--following the 'spider guides'. Their "enchanted" car appears on it's own power.

204 Aragog--giant spiders pick Harry and Ron up and take them back to Aragog--which was the spider that was Hagrid's pet fifty years ago. He talks with Harry and then tells him his 'children cannot be denied fresh meat.' Aragog refuses to name the monster in the castle, no different than the fear of naming Voldemort by the witches and wizards. The car comes to their rescue.

Moaning Myrtle was the girl that was murdered fifty years ago.

p. 213-214 Harry and Ron lip back.

p. 215 Introduced to the actual occult lore of the Basilisk..."King of the Serpents... spiders flee from before it.. Basilisk flee only the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it." Which would be why Hagrid's rooster was killed.

[Harry] "...The monster in the Chamber's a Basilisk-- a giant serpent."

p. 217 " A student has been taken by the monster. Right into the Chamber itself.'...'The Heir of Slytherin...left another message... Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever.' ...Which student?..."Ginny Weasley,"

This presents the concept of child sacrifice, which has been recorded in the Scriptures and secular literature.

p. 220 --Memory charm-- so people wouldn't remember doing things.

p. 221 Moaning Myrtle -a 'familiar spirit'--describes her death to Harry and Ron as: " I remember seeing a pair of great big yellow eyes. My whole body sort of seized up, and then I was floating away...' She looked dreamily at Harry. 'And then I came back again. I was determined to haunt Olive Hornby..."

The concept is that people have a choice as to what they can do when they die. This demon is presented as someone who has died.

p. 222 Speaking the language of snakes, which according to voodoo, only adepts can do. "Harry looked back at the snake, willing himself to believe it was alive. ...'Open up,' he said. Except that the words weren't what he heard; a strange hissing had escaped him...'

Serpents and the occult

p. 225. Imagery and symbolism--

'...he saw a solid wall ahead on which two entwined serpents were carved, their eyes set with great, gleaming emeralds. ...There was no need to pretend these stone snakes were real, their eyes looked strangely alive...He cleared his throat and the emerald eyes seemed to flicker. 'Open,' said Harry, in a low, faint hiss. The serpents parted as the wall cracked open...Harry...walked inside."

In the occult, snakes are guardians of the springs of life and immortality, and also those superior riches of the spirit that are symbolized by hidden treasure. [Burns, p. 126] Occultist Manley Palmer Hall, stated, "the serpent is the symbol and prototype of the Universal savior, who redeems the world by giving creation the knowledge of good and evil." [Burns p 131] Two serpents entwined bring the emblem of wisdom and prudence, according to Blavatsky, who also states, "the serpent has ever been the symbol of the adept and of his powers of immortality and divine knowledge..."[Burns, p. 151]

Imagery and symbolism--

p. 226 'Towering stone pillars entwined with more carved serpents rose to support a ceiling...greenish gloom that filled the place....moved forward between the serpentine columns...The hollow sockets of the stone snakes seemed to be following him...a statue high as the Chamber...giant face...it was ancient and monkey-like, with a long thin beard that fell almost to to bottom of the wizard's sweeping stone robes...And between the feet, face down, lay a small, black-robed figure with flaming red hair. 'Ginny!'

p. 227 "She's still alive,' said Riddle. 'But only just.'... Are you a ghost?' Harry said...' A memory, ' said Riddle quietly. 'Preserved in diary for fifty years.'

Presentation of the familiar spirit which communicated with Harry and now appears and again converses with him. He's supposedly of the past, present and future.

p. 228 "...I suppose the real reason Ginny Weasley's like this is because she opened her heart and spilled all her secrets to an invisible stranger.'

Demon possession described--notice this is a child and Scriptures show us that children can indeed open their minds to the demonic and be possessed. And taking control over a person and causing them to do things is also recorded in the Scriptures. Judas, the child in Mark and so on.

p.228 Riddle/Voldemort “...So Ginny poured out her soul to me and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted. I grew stronger and stronger on a diet of her deepest fears, her darkest secrets. I grew powerful, far more than little Miss Weasley. Powerful enough to start feeding Miss Weasley a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her...”

p. 229. "Haven't you guessed yet, Harry Potter?' said Riddle softly. 'Ginny Weasley opened the Chamber of Secrets. She strangled the school roosters and daubed threatening messages on the walls. She set the Serpent of Slytherin on four Mudbloods, and the Squib's cat."..."of course, she didn't know what she was doing at first. It was very amusing. I wish you could have seen her new diary entries...'I think I'm losing my memory. There are rooster feathers all over my robes and I don't know how they got there...I think I'm going mad...I think I'm the one attacking everyone Tom!'... 'It took a very long time for stupid little Ginny to stop trusting her diary..."

Imagery and symbolism and messages--p. 231. "So I made Ginny write her own farewell on the wall and come down here to wait. She struggled and cried and became very boring. But there isn't much life left in her: she put too much into the diary, into me. Enough to let me leave it's pages at last..."

p. 231 'Voldemort...is my past, present and future..."

Shaman believe that the soul loses power due to trauma, anger and so on. They also believe that soul loss allows what they term an 'intrusion' aka demon possession, to fill up that lost portion of soul. The depiction of Voldemort losing his power parallels this belief, while the possession of Ginny, also depicts the intrusion.

Demon possession is recorded in the Scriptures, in the Old and New Testaments. There are scriptures which reveal the demon speaking through the person, that is, a familiar spirit, others being violent and unable to control themselves. However, we are also shown that in Christ, complete freedom is obtained, no matter what the previous spiritual condition of the person.

Harry had given a silent plea for help which was answered by the appearance of Fawkes the Phoenix. This is the fulfillment of Dumbledore's promise to provide help to those who believed in him and who were loyal to him.

p. 232. "...Music was coming from somewhere...as the music reached such a pitch...flames erupted at the top of the nearest pillar. A crimson bird the size of a swan had appeared...That's a phoenix...'Fawkes?'.....that's the old school Sorting Hat.' 233. 'This is what Dumbledore sends to his defender...

p. 234...Riddle stop between the high pillars and look up into the stone face of Slytherin...opened his mouth and hissed..."Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the Hogwarts Four.'...Slytherin's gigantic stone face was moving,...Harry saw his mouth opening, wider and wider, to make a huge black hole. And something was stirring inside the statues mouth. Something was slithering up from it's depths....The Basilisk...'

The Egyptian Concept of the Soul states, "The Egyptians believed that humans and other living creatures consisted of "nine" bodies. These nine bodies define why the Egyptians believed that it was possible to invoke a creature's life force into a statue, and thereby gain the creature's power. ... Through different bodies, the Egyptians communicated with the dead, projected out-of-body, assumed other creatures' power,..."http://www.mix-net.net/~anubis/soul.html

Harry puts on the sorting hat in the battle and asks for help. A sword appears in the hat p. 235 " a gleaming silver sword...its handle glittering with rubies the size of eggs." p. 236." drove it to the hilt into the roof of the serpent's mouth." Fawkes the phoenix cries healing tears on the wound from the serpent.

Harry stabs the diary with the serpent fang. "There was a long dreadful piercing scream. Ink spurted out of the diary in torrents...Riddle was writhing...He had gone..."

Ink correlates to the life blood of the soul.

p. 244  Dumbledore "You must have shown me real loyalty down in the Chamber. Nothing but that could have called Fawkes to you."

Harry had been calling out for help in his mind-not verbally. Menaing the communication was of the occult to familiar spirits.

p. 245 Commenting on why Harry and Voldemort can speak parseltongue-- "Voldemort put a bit of himself in me?'

Meaning---Rowling has just said that this 'good wizard' now has a bit of evil in him.' Yet, all witchcraft comes from the same source. Satan is not of a divided house.

Looking at the sword "he saw the name engraved just below the hilt. Godric Gryffindor. "Only  a true Gryffindor could have pulled that out of the hat, Harry,' said Dumbledore simply."

Not unlike the Sword in the Stone of Arthurian legend--only the true heir could supernaturally pull the sword from the stone/hat.

Dobby the elf is given his freedom and shows that the witchcraft of an elf/demon is greater than that of a wizard/person who is serving the demonic. He stops Lucious Malfoy from using his wand on him simply by pointing his finger and threatening.

Take note of that implication. Those who practice witchcraft and who are part of the occult are not more powerful than the demons who they source. They may lust after power and be given the appearance of having control, but they are being used, manipulated and controlled by the demons they serve. It is only in Christ that we are free.

John 8:36 "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
