Harry Potter: The Fruitless Deeds of Darkness

3. Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban

Proverbs 10:29-32

"The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness."

This is the third book of the series and presents Harry Potter's third year at Hogwarts. Harry is thirteen and discovers that he has a godfather wizard, Sirius Black.  Azkaban is a  prison for witches that are really evil, again a presentation of a false premise.  Sirius Black is the prisoner that has escaped Azkaban and who is rumored to be out to kill Harry. Convicted of killing thirteen people with a single curse, he is believed by many to be the right-hand to Voldemort. The learning of spells, curses, potions and the various forms of divination are increased. New evil creatures, called Dementors enter the stories.

The first chapter is dedicated to the animosity, hatred, rudeness and wicked behavior by both Harry and his relatives. Although advocates like Connie Neal, [Interview, Harry Potter and the Disputable Matter, on Christianity.com] say the book portrays  "the moral world of Harry Potter is in keeping with what the Bible reveals about the nature of good and evil. Therefore, we can use these stories for godly purposes...," the very nature of these behaviors is justified by the author, hence not presenting a Biblical view of good and evil.

Proverbs 12:5 "The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit."

p. 7 --Message--"Harry is writing an essay called "Witch-burning in the Fourteenth Century was Completely Pointless."  We know that witch-burnings and the wicked results are historical fact. This is not based on a fable.

p. 7-8  Harry's character is shown to be deceitful and disobedient, and yet justified because of his 'muggle' relatives.

Lying and deception are not of God.

Psalm 120:2 "Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper."

p. 14 --Message--Egyptian wizards were fascinating.

Egypt has been a cradle for all manner of occultism.

p. 20-21 Harry  is smart-mouthed, rude, defiant and uses blackmail to attempt to get his way and uncontrolled rage which results in his cursing his Aunt and running away. All is presented as justified.

Chapter 3 brings the wizards Knight Bus, which arrives just as Harry is wondering what to do. It clairvoyantly knows when a witch is in need and arrives to transport them away. Muggles are unable to see the bus, again a demonstration of 'the otherworld' of witchcraft.

p. 34-Imagery--The description of Sirius Black--is described of what is often depicted as a vampire. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and part of the constellation CANIS MAJORA. Sirius is recognized by occultists and Satanists to be the place where Lucifer dwells, that is, Hell, and Sirius is keeper of Hell. Venus, another name for Lucifer, became goddess of the Dog-star Sirius.

p. 42-- Another gate of entry into the otherworld is presented through riding the Knight Bus as well as entering the Leaky Cauldron bar, which Muggles can't see. Once inside the Leaky Cauldron bar, a witch or wizard can enter Diagon Alley, where they buy all the trappings needed to carry out their witchcraft.

p. 45 --Purchasing books for Harry's third year at Hogwarts, "I need Unfogging the Future, by Cassandra Vablatsky...'Here you are," said the manager,...Unfogging the Future. Very good guide to all your basic fortune telling methods--palmistry, crystal balls, bird entrails... '"

Divination and fortune telling require demon possession or 'consultation with familiar spirits,' which is forbidden by God. Vablatsky is an anagram for Blavatsky, aka Helena P. Blavatsky, (1831-1891), occultist, spiritist, Luciferian, magician, Mason, and founder of the occult Theosophical Society.  She indeed leads the way into divination and demon possession--in historical and real satanism and witchcraft.

Death Omens become a part of the lingo--superstition. Dictionary definition of omen includes, "a sign of what is to happen; object or event that is believed to mean good or bad fortune.." Harry looks to the book, Death Omen:  What To Do When You Know The Worst Is Coming p.45

p. 45 Imagery--Invisible Book of Invisibility

Books and classes for Third year at Hogwarts:

p. 45 Unfogging The Future -- the Divination Textbook.

p. 45 Intermediate Transfiguration--shape-shifting--a real occult pursuit

p. 45 The Standard Book of Spells, Grade Three--real witchcraft

p. 47 Care of Magical Creatures-----

p. 44  The Monster Book of Monsters--- This book was possessed by aggressive and destructive demons. They attacked the students trying to open them, and they would even rip the books apart.  Students kept the demons inside the book covers by strapping the book shut with a rope or other restraint.

p. 47  Arithmancy --  Divination using "coincidences of math'.

p. 47 Study of Ancient Runes -- Runes are occult symbols/letters used to communicate with the subconcious, as talismans, used for charms and magic spells, divination, and shaman use them to communicate with the dead.

Charms --

Potions--

Defense Against Dark Arts

p. 47 Divination--

p. 53 Message---"...he insists on treating Harry like a child. He's thirteen years old..."

Thirteen is not an adult as many young people would love to suggest. They need our input, correction and direction just as much as a younger child. Many however, are trying to suggest that adolescents can make adult decisions, based on their own knowledge and ability to know and understand all the facts and information. They are encouraged to make decisions based on their willingness to accept the consequences. Children and youth view themselves as invincible and do not believe they would receive negative by their choices.

p. 53-54 Message--- Harry overhears a discussion about Sirius Black between Mr. and Mrs. Weasley.  The discussion presents the idea Black is going to try to murder Harry, but that he'll be safe at Hogwarts. Mr Weasley believes Harry isn't safe at Hogwart's either because of the level of witchcraft Sirius portrays, even in escaping the prison. Mr. Weasley stated, "Dumbledore isn't fond of the Azkaban guards, nor am I ... but when you're dealing with a wizard like Black, you sometimes have to join forces with those you'd rather avoid."

In other words, the guards of Azkaban Prison are practitioners of the same witchcraft that the prisoners are in jail for practicing.  The 'good' witches practice the 'good and acceptable witchcraft. Again, this is calling evil good and presenting a false premise that there is a distinction between various forms of witchcraft and the occult.  Joining forces is presenting the very New Age concept of finding common ground so that there can be unity in diversity. It is how the ecumenical unity is being accomplished worldwide.

One of the themes that comes through these books is that Harry cannot be killed, and is becoming invincible as his witchcraft knowledge and power increases. Even at the age of thirteen he has proven to have powers equal to that of the 'greatest' wizards--both Voldemort and Dumbledore.

p. 55 Harry's mirror talks-- familiar spirit/demon and gate to otherworld; mirrors are used for divination.

The Dementors--Azkaban prison guards. Chapter five introduces these wicked creatures who feast on the souls of their prisoners.

p. 59 Professor R.J. Lupin--teaches Defense Against Dark Arts and turns out to be a shape-shifter or animagus. His 'spirit guide', as his name suggests, transforms him into a werewolf'.

p. 61 Talking about Hogsmeade, "'In Sites of Historic Sorcery, it says the inn was the headquarters of the 1612 goblin rebellion and the Shrieking Shack's supposed to be the most severely haunted building in Britain...sherbert balls that make you levitate..."

Sorcery and witchcraft are again treated as special, good and normal activities. Through each book children are being molded to accept that witchcraft is good, fun and acceptable to 'good' people. Only people like the loathsome Dursley's and other 'Muggles' would not find witchcraft of use. The presentation of the supernatural as normal and acceptable is Scriptural,

2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

p. 64  Character of Ron--again Ron is shown as bad-tempered, desiring revenge and physically wanting to deal with Malfoy. He determines he's not going to take any cracks concerning his family, without physical retaliation.

On the train ride to Hogwarts, we're introduced to the grotesque Dementors. In fact Harry's introduction to the Dementor's is so demonic that it gives the appearance of an actual demon possession. The creatures are  hooded in black robes.

 p. 65-66  "Professor Lupin appeared to be holding a handful of flames...Standing in the doorway, illuminated by the shivering flames in Lupin's hand, was a cloaked figure that towered to the ceiling.  Its face was completely hidden beneath its hood.  Harry's eyes darted downward, and what he saw made his stomach contract.  There was a hand protruding from the cloak and it was glistening, greyish, slimy-looking, and scabbed, like something dead that had decayed in water... It was visible for only a second ... the hand was suddenly withdrawn into the folds of its black material.  And then the thing beneath the hood, whatever it was, drew a long, slow, rattling breath as though it were trying to suck something more than air from its surroundings.

An intense cold swept over them all.  Harry felt his own breath catch in his chest.  The cold went deeper than his skin.  It was inside his chest, it was inside his very heart... Harry's eyes rolled up in his head. He couldn't see. He was drowning in cold.  There was a rushing in his ears as though of water.  He was being dragged downward, the roaring growing louder... And then, from far away, he heard screaming, terrible, terrified pleading screams ... a thick white fog was swirling around him, inside him."

No one else heard the screams but Harry. The sensation of cold and fog are classic description of those who have actually been demon possessed. The very essence of this passage is evil. Hearing voices is also part of demon possession. Read the testimony of former psychic Brenda, who attests to these realities. Jesus: The Way, The Truth and The Life

Later in the book it comes across that the Dementors were starting to suck the soul out of Harry. In real occultism, they were possessing his soul.  While Harry was uniquely affected the others felt the terror also. p. 67 "Did you feel how cold it went when it came in?";   Ron said, "I felt weird,... like I'd never be cheerful again".  p. 67 Describing what happened to Harry, Ron said, "I thought you were having a fit or something...  You went sort of rigid and fell out of your seat and started twitching." Again, classic description of actual demon possession, including the Scriptural description of the child in Mark 9:17-27. Dementer in Latin means insanely, with demens entis, meaning out of ones mind, demented, mad and so on which is what happens to those who are guarded by the dementors.

p. 72 --Message--Trust Albus Dumbledore, "the greatest wizard of the age,"

In the presence of Dumbledore and his witchcraft, Harry feels safe. Another validation that witchcraft is a good and positive spiritual choice.

p. 74 Password into the tower is Fortuna Major, part of Geomancy--also studied at Hogwarts. Geomancy is an ancient divination method, with Feng Shui being the Chinese method. Geomancy is any system of divination (an attempt to get in touch with the divine) related to manipulation of the earth. Caput Draconis, Latin for 'dragon's head, is one of the figures of geomancy, and also a password to the boys rooms at Hogwarts. Other Geomancy figures include Fortuna Major, and Rubeus, all of which also appear in H.P as characters or passwords. p. 78 The Divination class--. Trelawney, makes the statement,

p. 79"...descending too often into the hustle and bustle of the main school clouds my Inner Eye....If you do not have the Sight, there is very little I will be able to teach you. Books can take you only so far..."

p. 80 "Many....are unable to penetrate the veiled mysteries of the future,'...'It is a Gift granted to few...We will be covering the basic methods of Divination this year. The first term will be devoted to reading the tea leaves. Next term we shall progress to palmistry....In the summer term...we shall progress to the crystal ball--if we have finished with fire-omens..."

P. 81---'...drink until only the dregs remain. Swill these around the cup three times with the left hand, then turn the cup upside down on its saucer; wait for the last of the tea to drain away,  them give your cup to your partner to read. You will interpret the patterns using...Unfogging the Future..."

The 'Inner Eye' or all seeing eye is the emblem of Osiris whose equivalent is the Indian god Shiva. In a nutshell it means Satan. The Inner Eye is witchcraft and is also called the third eye, which is recognized as being necessary to awaken or open. The third eye is said to be located in the forehead and is the contact with divinity. From that comes clairvoyance, levitation and astral projection and so on.  Crystal balls are current witchcraft. It's not a game. If you need proof go to Psychic Realm which presents: Tarot, palmistry, dream interpretation--Harry does have psychic dreams- Runes, Astrology, Numerology and so on.  http://www.psychicrealm.com/pn/index.phtml?2994700420

p. 82 -83 Imagery and Symbolism----Trelawney divines that  Harry has the "Grim", "...the giant, spectral dog that haunts churchyards!  My boy, it is an omen -- the worst omen -- of death."  p. 85 Ron tells Harry and Hermione, "... if Harry's seem a Grim, that's bad -- my uncle Bilius saw one and -- he died twenty-four hours later ... Grims scare the living daylights out of most wizards!"  Hermione responds, "... They see the Grim and die of fright.  the Grim's not an omen, it's the cause of death."

British folklore, of which Rowling said she drew on, contains much superstition around big black dogs, which is Sirius Black's animagus shape. According to an article entitled "Black Dogs, Church Grims and Hell Hounds: Supernatural Canines in British Folklore" by Graeme Davis, these grims, and death omens are part of British and Faerie lore.

"Black dogs are by far the most common of the supernatural dogs in northern Europe. They are found in Brittany and Scandinavia as well as Britain. A black dog is normally the size of a calf, with a shaggy black coat and glowing, sometimes fiery eyes. They are always solitary. Some are dangerous, and some are not: black dogs fall into various categories according to their behavior.

Wandering Black Dogs

Wandering black dogs may be encountered in almost any rural area, normally at night. The dog is usually encountered by a lone traveler or, at the most, a group of two or three....More extreme powers might give the dog the ability to act as a Death Omen (see GURPS Middle Ages 1, p.102) at will, in the same way as a Banshee...." www.sjgames.com/gurps/Roleplayer/Roleplayer30/GhostDogs.html

Another website articles about Phantom Black Dogs states:"... the folklorist Theo Brown divided the black dog phenomena into three separate types A, B and C. (A) Being a shape-shifting demon dog; (B) being a dark black dog calf sized with shaggy fur; and (C) a dog that appears in time with certain ancient festivals in specific areas of the country. Katherine Briggs, the renowned folklorist, splits these further into demon dogs, the ghosts of human beings and the ghosts of dogs in their own right.... names in different countries...Padfoot, Yorkshire..." http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/folklore/black_dogs.html Another site states that Padfoot relates to Staffordshire.

Padfoot was the name Sirius was called when he became the black dog.

P. 83  Hermione is told by Trelawney, "..I perceive very little aura around you. Very little receptivity to the resonances of the future."

Aura is an occult term. According to occult sites, it is the energy that can be seen around everything that is alive. Called the human halo, an aura supposedly consists of energy layers and colors used for divining a horosscope, health and so on. It's simply witchcraft.

p. 83 Animagi--wizards who could transform into animals. Called shapeshifting in many occult groups and a current occult practice.

p.84  "True Seers are very rare..."  A seer is a person who foretells the future.

p. 87. Care of Magical Creatures class--- Hagrid introduces the students to Hippogriffs, a combination creature which later becomes one of the heroes of the book. This creature "had the bodies, hind legs, and tails of horses, but the front legs, wings, and heads of what seemed to be giant eagles, with cruel, steel-colored beaks and large, brilliantly orange eyes.  The talons on their front legs were half a foot long and deadly looking..."

p. 101 Boggart --described as a "shape-shifter" which "can take the shape of whatever it thinks will frightens us the most." Notice, Rowling uses the real occult term of shape-shifter.

In real witchcraft lore Boggart is another name for a Bogey, " The Bogey-man was a devil derived from the Slavic bog, "god." English cognates were bugabow, bugaboo, bugbear and boggle-bo which used to designate the pagan image carried in a procession to the May Day games... "Humbug" came from the Norse hum, "night," plus bog or bogey, i. e., a night spirit. The word "bug," from the Welsh bwg, "spirit," was applied to insects because of the old belief that insects were souls in search of rebirth. A mantis was a soul of the seer or wizard. A butterfly was Psyche, or a Female Soul. Other derivations of bog were Scotish bogle, Yorkshire boggart,... [Mystica;Bogey>http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/b/bogey.html

The boggart was used to teach the students spells. Each had to think of their worst fears, from dementors and banshees to mummies, and then defeat the shape-shifting demon by casting a spell with incantation. Classic witchcraft.

P. 107 Imagery---red caps--goblins and kappas, and kerpies--elemental spirits/demons

p. 116 Grindylow--water demon.

p.119 Butterbeer is an alcoholic beverage which the kids and adults drink. Halloween is presented again with a feast.

Peeves the poltergeist and the other ghosts are all presented in the same way throughout the books. All can be communicated with, meaning talking with familiar spirits.

There is an attack on Halloween night attributed to Sirius Black.

p. 123 Imagery and symbolism--"... the castle's protected by more than walls, you know ... there are all sorts of enchantments on it, to stop people entering by stealth.  You can't just Apparate in here."

Witches and wizards place spells of protection around themselves and their homes, in order to protect against "evil" spirits.  More current witchcraft practices that refutes Rowlings statement that her information was what people used to believe.

In the books the brooms desired by the witches are called the Nimbus 2000/2001 - The dictionary definition of  Nimbus, " a light disk or radiance about the head of a divine or sacred person in a picture; bright cloud surrounding a god, person or thing; According to Greek Mythology "the cloud shape which enveloped the gods and goddesses when they appeared on earth.": "The nimbus is of pagan origin." "As an attribute of power, the nimbus is often seen attached to the heads of evil spirits."

p. 129-130 -More Character attributes---Ron mouths off to Professor Snape, swears and name calls.

p. 133-134 Imagery----During a Quidditch match, Harry is pursuing the Snitch [winged globe],  when "...a horribly familiar wave of cold swept over him, inside him, just as he became aware of something moving on the pitch below ... At least a hundred Dementors, their hidden faces pointing up at him, were standing below. It was as though freezing water was rising in his chest, cutting at his insides.  And then he heard it again ... Someone was screaming, screaming inside his head .... a woman ... 'Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry'!  'Stand aside, you silly girl ... stand aside now' ... ''Not Harry, please no, kill me instead' --- Numbing, swirling white mist was filling Harry's brain ... What was he doing?  Why was he flying?  He needed to help her ... She was going to die ... She was going to be murdered ... He was falling, falling through the icy mist.  'Not Harry! Please ... have mercy ... have mercy' .... A shrill voice was laughing, the woman was screaming, and Harry knew no more..."

Again this is a very clear description of real demon possession-very real and very current to today. The voices, sensation of cold and so on, losing control of one's body and thoughts are actual symptoms---this is not amusing. Since this imagery is repeated many times in the books, the imagery is impressed into minds. It won't easily be forgotten.

The Golden Snitch is described as a gold ball with fluttering silver wings. In the occult the ball would be referred to as a disc or solar disc and the image clearly describes the "winged globe." The winged globe and serpent symbolize the Egyptians triune deity, and Egypt was known as the land of the 'winged globe'. " The winged globe, says H.G. Wells, is " to become the symbol of the New World Order when it overtly rules the world." "The Rosicrucian's also lay claim to this symbol. R. Swinburne Clymer said that "the Winged Globe is primarily a Rosicrucian symbol." He adds: "The Winged Globe is the symbol of the perfect soul making its flight back to the source of its creation in the Elysian fields beyond." Another name for the winged globe is Lynx. This is the 'living winged globe of Chaldean magic tradition, symbolizing the universal spirit." 7  Blavatsky said the "winged globe" is another form of the egg and has the same significance as the scarabaeus [scarab] which relates to the rebirth of man, as well as to his spiritual generation.' In Goblet of Fire, Scarab beetles are used. Scarab beetles means immortality, past and future lives, meaning reincarnation and the power to create.

In Egypt scarab also symbolized Khebera, the god of creation and resurrection who was self-begotten. According to Anton La Vey of the Church of Satan, The Phoenicians  worshipped the fly god, Baal or Beelzebub. Both Baal and Beelzebub are identical to the dung beetle or scarabaeus. 8

Regarding reincarnation, Hebrews 9:27 states And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Proverbs 11:7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

p. 136 Imagery---Harry is levitated by Dumbledore to the hospital, where Harry later awakens with the thoughts, "That was the scariest thing I've ever seen in my life.  Scariest ... the scariest thing ... hooded black figures ... cold ... screaming ..." As Harry rests in the hospital, he has terrifying dreams, and realizes the screams are those of his mother before Voldemort kills her. p. 138 "Harry dozed fitfully, sinking into dreams full of clammy, rotted hands and petrified pleading, jerking awake to dwell again on his mother's voice."

Levitation and spells are again of current occult pursuits. Harry's wicked dreams are nightmares. God's ways is peace and joy, and not terror.

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

p. 140  Professor Lupin [Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher] describe the Dementors to Harry.

"Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth.  They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them ... Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you.  If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself -- soul-less and evil. You'll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life..."

Therefore, the Dementors are without souls, even as they feast on the souls of their victims. Consider the spiritual application of this. When people who are without Christ die they go to hell where there is only sorrow, anguish and sufferering. Rowling appears to be presenting a serious perversion of spiritual matters. Only through God's judgment will people be 'imprisoned' where there is no peace, joy or happiness. And that is because they have rejected Jesus Christ.

p. 143. The Marauders Map---communicates when someone is planning mischief and in Harry's case, disobedience. This is automatic writing and familiar spirits. Mischief and disobedience are presented as fun and worth the possible consequences.

Proverbs 10:23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Proverbs 24:1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

p. 158 Harry's character---" A hatred such as he had never known before was coursing through Harry like a poison..."

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

p. 169 'crystal-gazing' p. 170. Trelawney referring to herself as "All-Knowing: and having the Inner Eye". The number 13 put forward as unlucky --superstition.

Crystals are viewed as having a life force.

p. 174 --learning palmistry in divination--all current witchcraft practices.

p. 175--Lupin teaching Harry the Patronus charm as a defense against Dementors. Patronus is described as a 'guardian which acts as a shield between you and the Dementor." 'The Patronus is a kind of positive force..." '...You conjure it...with an incantation...

In reality a patron refers to a deceased saint who supposedly is a special guardian. In Latin, patronus means defender.

p. 177... another depiction of the Dementor/demon possession. p. 178 Harry 'sees' more of what happened the night his parents were killed,  as his contact with the dementor increases. In other words the demon is revealing more knowledge to him.

Harry asks Professor Lupin why the Dementors came to the Quidditch match.  Lupin replied:  "They're getting hungry ... Dumbledore won't let them into the school, so their supply of human prey has dried up ... I don't think they could resist the large crowd around the Quidditch pitch. All that excitement...emotions running high ... it was their idea of a feast."

p. 182-183  Imagery and Message---Harry asks Professor Lupin, while they drink Butterbeer -an alcohilic beverage--together,  " 'What's under a Dementor's hood?'  Professor Lupin lowered his bottle thoughtfully.  '... well, the only people who really know are in no condition to tell us.  You see, the Dementor only lowers its hood only to use its last and worst weapon ... They call it the Dementor's Kiss', said Lupin, with a slightly twisted smile.  'It's what Dementors do to those they wish to destroy utterly. I suppose there must be some kind of mouth under there, because they clamp their jaws upon the mouth of the victim and -- suck out his soul ... You can exist without your soul, you know, as long as your brain and heart are still working. But you'll have no sense of self any more, no memory, no...anything. There's no chance of recovery.  You'll just -- exist.  As an empty shell.  And your soul is gone forever ... lost.' ... Harry sat stunned for a moment at the idea of someone having their soul sucked out through their mouth."

The Bible says the body dies when the soul leaves the body.

p. 191  gambling on the Quidditch match.

Harry lies, sneaks, disobeys, breaks the rules, and exhibits uncontrolled rage. Setting aside the witchcraft, there is disrespect and rudeness towards elder he and the others disagree with.

p. 211 automatic writing communicating with Snape. Automatic writing is demonic and current witchcraft.

p. 213 Imagery and symbolism----'one-eyed witch'----"In esoteric or occult terms, the right eye represents Osiris (the male) and the left eye represents Isis (the female). A single eye, indistinguishable as left or right, represents the All-Seeing Eye (Horus Hawk from Egypt)." " The All-Seeing Eye, is "the emblem of Osiris, the creator...The Open Eye of Egypt represented Osiris. In India Siva is represented by an eye." "A symbol fo the omniscient and watchful providence of God. It is a very ancient symbol and is supposed by some to be a relic of the primitive sun-worship."[Burns p. 373, 357]

p. 218-219  Imagery and Symbolism ----Harry, Ron and Hermione, "... climbed the ladder into the dim, stifling tower room.  Glowing on every little table was a crystal ball full of pearly white mist ... 'I have decided to introduce the crystal ball a little earlier than I had planned', said Professor Trelawney ... 'The fates have informed me that your examination in June will concern the Orb, and I am anxious to give you sufficient practice ... Crystal gazing is a particularly refined art', she said dreamily. 'I do not expect any of you to See when first you peer into the Orb's infinite depths.  We shall start by practicing relaxing the conscious mind and external eyes so as to clear the Inner Eye and the superconscious."

This description of how to prepare the mind to clear it of all thoughts is descriptive enough, and accurate enough to allow a child to do it on his own. It is part of opening up the 'Inner eye."  Familiar spirits can then communicate with the victim--because that is what they become. Spiritual victims. Having already been privy to a similar exercise in the previous books, it seems that initiation is the name of the game, except, this concept of opening the mind and clearing it is not new to students. It is being taught in many classrooms as a form of stress management and stems not only from the occult concept of the third eye, but is part of such occultism as transcendental meditation.

In fact, witchcraft isn't new in classrooms period, as people like Robert Muller have presented Gaia worship in many classrooms, or it's found in studies such as the Impressions curriculum, which requires children to learn Wicca practices--many of which are found in the Potter books. If one peruses curriculum, reading lists, and so on, one will find the occult and witchcraft form the basis of much that is taught or available. It's merely becoming more blatant in open practices, as the conditioning for acceptance of it succeeds. It is merely a sign of things to come.

For Dr. Robert G. Muller See: World Vision: Global Education; Letter

Revelation 14:9 "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. 12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

p. 219  Professor Trewlaney becomes upset with two of the students.  "You are disturbing the clairvoyant vibrations", she complained.

Clairvoyant vibrations is referring to the ability, through demonic knowledge, of knowing things not in sight. It's consulting with familiar spirits.

p. 232---Hermione's been studying Numerology and Grammatica. Numerology is divination based on numbers and grammatica, although French and Italian for grammar,  could be related to study of the hieroglyphs of Ancient Egypt or is a play on the word Gematria, which is widespread in it's use. p. 238 Demon possession of Trelawney----At the end of the term, Professor Trelawney surprised her students by interviewing them one at a time to give them her final exam.

"Relieved, Harry got up, picked up his bag, and turned to go, but then a loud, harsh voice spoke behind him.  'It will happen tonight.' Harry wheeled around.  Professor Trelawney had gone rigid in her armchair; her eyes were unfocused and her mouth sagging.  'S -- sorry?' said Harry.  But Professor Trelawney didn't seem to hear him.  Her eyes started to roll.  Harry stood there in a panic. She looked as though she was about to have some sort of seizure.  He hesitated ... and then Professor Trelawney spoke again, in the same harsh voice, quite unlike her own:

'The Dark Lord lies alone and friendless, abandoned by his followers. His servant has been chained these twelve years. Tonight, before midnight, the servant will break free and set out to rejoin his master. The dark Lord will rise again with his servant's aid, greater and more terrible than ever before. Tonight...before midnight...the servant...will set out...to rejoin...his master..."

"Professor Trelawney's head fell forward onto her chest.  She made a grunting sort of noise . Then, quite suddenly, Professor Trelawney's head snapped up again.  'I'm so sorry, dear boy', she said dreamily, 'the heat of the day, you know ... I drifted off for a moment ..."

It doesn't get more vivid and real a presentation of actual demon possession. We're to have nothing to do with this type of "stuff". It is not entertaining. It is real witchcraft.

Deuteronomy 18:10 "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD:..."

p. 245-246  Imagery---Rowling presents an image of  a huge black dog attacking and knocking Harry and the others down. It attacks Ron and drags the struggling boy by the leg, down under the Whomping Willow tree. The imagery and sense of terror is complete for young children and older as well. Ours is not the spirit of fear, but how many children--and many younger than six are hearing these stories, will be terrified by these scenes. Dogs are real and do come bounding and many do knock children over in play, but some are actually attacking. The vision of a child struggling and being dragged away is not a very lovely picture.

p. 248---Imagery--

"On the floor beside him, clutching his leg ... was Ron. Harry and Hermione dashed across to him. 'Ron -- are you okay?'  'Where's the dog?'  'Not a dog', Ron moaned.  His teeth were gritted with pain. 'Harry, it's a trap ... He's the dog ... he's an Animagus [witch capable of turning into an animal]. With a snap, the man in the shadows closed the door behind him. A mass of filthy, matted hair hung to his elbows.  If eyes hadn't been shining out of the deep, dark sockets, he might have been a corpse.  The waxy skin was stretched so tightly over the bones of his face, it looked like a skull.  His yellow teeth were bared in a grin.  It was Sirius Black."

p. 249 Harry's character---'A boiling hate erupted in Harry's chest, leaving no place for fear. For the first time in his life he wanted his wand back in his hand , not to defend himself, but to attack...to kill...."

Sirius Black is finally discovered to be an animagus, who transforms into the black dog. He's been trying to  protect Harry from the real Animagus--Ron's rat--Peter Pettigrew-- serving Voldemort who was trying to kill Harry.  Harry discovers that Sirius is his godfather.

Sirius describes the Dementors:  "Dementors can't see, you know ... they feel their way toward people by feeding off their emotions." Sirius then relates how he was able to slip past the Dementors, and escape from prison.  "So, one night when they opened my door to bring food, I slipped past them as a dog.  It's so much harder for them to sense animal emotions ..."

Black states, "There'll only be one murder tonight..." p. 253 Lupin admits he's a werewolf.

Murder and revenge have been planned for the person who killed Harry's parents. Both concepts are viewed as justifiable.

p. 264---Message---amid the hatred for Black, Snape states, "Vengeance is very sweet."

An ungodly concept--vengeance belongs to the Lord. We're to love our enemies.

Message---Harry is given the choice of how to deal with Pettigrew, who helped Voldemort find his parents and subsequently murder them, and Pettigrew framed Sirius for that and the murder of thirteen other people. Harry chooses to turn him over to the Dementors as a prisoner of Azkaban, rather than have Sirius and Lupin murder him. He is told that it is his 'right' to choose the way it is dealt with.

Proverbs 12:20 "Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. "

Various shapeshifting takes place with the rat, dog, and werewolf.

p. 280-281 Imagery and symbolism--The Dementors surround Harry as he seeks to protect Sirius from being captured. -"Dementors, at least a hundred of them, gliding in a black mass around the lake towards them. He spun around, the familiar, icy cold penetrating his insides, fog starting to obscure his vision...they were encircling them..."

"...A dead slimy hand slid out from under the cloak...He could feel them watching him, hear their rattling breath like an evil wind around him.  The nearest Dementor seemed to be considering him.  Then it raised both its rotting hands -- and lowered its hood.

Where there should have been eyes, there was only thin, gray scabbed skin, stretched tightly over empty sockets.  But there was a mouth, a gaping, shapeless hole, sucking the air with the sound of a death rattle. A paralysing terror filled Harry... White fog was blinding him...a pair of strong, clammy hands suddenly attached themselves around Harry's neck.  They were forcing his face upwards...he could feel its breath...it was going to get rid of him first...he could feel its putrid breath...his mother was screaming in his ears...she was going to be the last thing he ever heard--"

"..he saw a silvery light...The blinding light was illuminating the grass...The screaming had stopped, the cold was ebbing away...Something was driving the Dementors back...an animal amidst the light...it was bright as a unicorn..."

The phrases, 'black mass', 'encircling them" 'black hooded' figures, all denote a real satanic ritual, which according to some sources involves actual devil worship, and "include deviant sexual acts and orgies, necrophilia, cannibalisms of sacrificial victims (including human beings), and drinking the blood of the victims." Children have very often been the victims of these rituals, which Harry and Hermione are portraying as they are surrounded by this evil.  White fog--or white light denote Lucifer.

The arrival of the patronus, via the blinding light is also occult imagery. In fact, when  a person awakens their 'third eye; through imagination, visualization and meditation, it is taught that the 'chakra is fully activated, the seven colors of the aura "combine and create an auric field of WHITE LIGHT. This forms a protective energy that is often called ILLUMINATION." The white light is an important symbol in the New Age. ..."In the upper three levels of witchcraft LUCIFER IS REPRESENTED BY A WHITE LIGHT." [Burns p. 268]

In spiritual alchemy, the Stag as a symbol is often associated with the Sun and the Unicorn is usually linked with the Moon which is why Harry mentioned both. Alchemists attempt to bring union to the two--which Rowling has accomplished in this passage.  It's noteworthy that J.K. Rowling majored in Mythology at Exeter University.

Harry was miraculously delivered by the very spell against Dementors that Professor Lupin had taught him.  In order to save Sirius, Harry and Hermione change time and go back to change events. Believing at first that his dead father conjured the patronus stag that saves them from the Dementors, Harry discovers it was conjured by himself, when he traveled back in time. The stag was the animagus/demon of his dead father. Dumbledore tells him it shows his father was a part of him. Traveling in time is a current occult pursuit, as is calling on the dead for protection.

Our protection, as Christians, comes from a living God.

Matthew 22:32 "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

John 6:69 'And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.'

As Christians we are to be salt and light, and through that bring glory to God. If what we agree with, what we promote, what we advocate as good, is an abomination or affront to Almighty God, who exactly are we serving?

Matthew 5:13 'Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

When we address issues such as occultism, our stand must align with the Scriptures. We don't need to agree with, dabble in or be part of occultism in order to share Jesus Christ.  Colossians 4 reminds us,

3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
