Jacob Prasch:
A Closer Look
Amos
3:3
"Can two walk together except they be agreed?"
Jacob Prasch
and others in the Hebrew Roots
, favour and promote the Midrash. As
discussed in Part II: The Bible and the
Talmud, it was noted that
The Haggada of the Midrash are composed of Jewish fables. Each article in the
series has added to the understanding of what Midrash is, including Part
V: The Kabbalah, which shows Genesis Rabba, recommended by Mr. Prasch and
others, to carry a false account of Adam and Eve and so on.
Further discussions
and information about Midrash were shown in the rest of the series including the
concept that the vehicle of choice for mystics
(kabbalists) to bring their gnostic
view into harmony with their own traditions was allegory or midrash found in Part
VIII.
God issues this warning in
the Scriptures found in Titus
1:14:
" Not giving heed to
Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the
truth."
Since the posting of the
To Embrace
Hebrew Roots Series in January, 1999 it became apparent
a further evaluation of Jacob Prasch, his teachings and endorsements other than
Midrash should be undertaken. We were particularly interested in Jacob and his organization, which was revamped after
those writings, because Moriel was one of
the Messianic organizations this writer had originally been invited to be a part of before
beginning to research the various groups. For updated analysis
of the Hebrew Roots Movement see the series: The
Spreading Hebrew Roots.
Jacob
Prasch, calls himself a "conservative Pentecostal minister with the Full
Gospel
Fellowship
of Churches.” Though queried several times, Jacob has not answered nor clarified
whether that Full Gospel Fellowship is the same as Full
Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers International. 1
The late Reverend Gordon Lindsay and a group of
men founded the Fellowship in 1962. According
to information on their Upcoming FGFCMI Conference 2
in July, 2000, called “Alive, Anointed and Ablaze”
speakers included Jim Baker and Rev. Loren Cunningham, Founder of YWAM and
other ecumenical people and organizations. The 2001 Conference speakers include
John Kilpatrick of Pensecola and others. Regional conferences include women
"Reverends" as speakers.
Jacob Prasch had on his old Moriel "Good Sites" web page, the
hotlinks,
endorsement and promotion of ‘Jews for Jesus’ and the ‘Messianic Jewish
Alliance of Australia’, the latter which has since been removed.
We’ve shown in
articles such as LCJE and EJECT:
Ecumenical
Jews, Evangelicals, Charismatics & Catholics Together , & Part
2,
that the MJAA, Jews For Jesus and other Messianic organizations are Ecumenical.
Jacob defined false
“Discernment Ministries” in terms he finds acceptable and then listed ones
in his February 2000 Newsletter, that
“operate valid discernment ministries to alert the church and give
understanding to the many,” although the list is slightly
different than his Moriel Links,
“… There are those pretending to be watchmen, alerting
the church, allies in the cause of truth calling themselves ‘Discernment
Ministries’; but who are largely a collection of charlatans, frauds, and
deceivers with their own agenda who already betray the cause. “
“These people have much in common and tend to imitate each
other. Many are borderline psychos akin
to the conspiracy theorists operating along the same kind of line. They
postulate things on the basis of conjecture, and those not agreeing with them
are branded as false or even ‘New Agers, in disguise…. The second thing that
defines the false watchmen of this category is their ceaseless propensity to
defame and slander true watchmen…. One thing the Body of Christ needs in these
Last Days are true watchmen. We need people who are bible based and who operate
valid discernment ministries to alert the church and give understanding to the
many… We may not agree with every aspect of their ministry, but
we stand by
them all as comrades in Christ’s cause. [Bolding

Jacob
elaborated, "In these Last Days we don’t need those who totter and send mixed
signals, but watchmen who sound a clear alarm. Neither do we need watchmen who are not watchmen sounding false alarms."
Some of the very people Jacob Prasch lists as “comrades,”
having ‘discernment’ and to be trusted are involved with, at the very least, the
Ecumenical movement as discussed in the articles LCJE
and EJECT.
Many provide research material and are deemed experts on various issues. In fact when we
quote them, it is because they are either using first hand sources, or we wish
to present the common information circulated about particular topics. It is NOT
an endorsement of the source. Many appear to have provided well- researched material and as having presented all the pertinent facts. However, as our
documentation will show, all pertinent facts are not being presented.
Jacob has declared many times in the same Newsletter, that
those he does not endorse are not scholarly sound. In fact, those he endorses
are declared to have the academic skills necessary to disseminate information.
Any others are declared false watchmen, among many other names.
"....there is much going on of a conspiratorial
nature. But investigating such things requires both a sound biblical position, and sanctified journalistic skills...Two thing seem to characterise these false
watchman. The first is that they are ‘would be’ Christian academics who
are merely theological veneers with no real background in any scholarly sense in the matters in which they profess expertise. One need not be an
intellectual to be a minister or have discernment , but one must have the qualifications to know what one is talking about...would be laughed out of any academic forum, but sincere
believers not trained in academic theology can be sucked in by their endless production of nonsense , often bordering on pure idiocy. The second thing that defines the false watchmen of this category is their
ceaseless propensity to defame and slander true watchmen....I am additionally
perfectly open to considering serious scholarly arguments from academically qualified Christian sources concerning their theories of
Textus Receptus etc. (again, we refer our readers to our own audio on
the subject)...are not scholars. Neither are they watchmen. They are mere fakers who only wish they were and pretend to be...Again the psuedo academic pretence of these people is at times
laughable...While no scholarly source would...attribute any credibility to such people, the average well meaning
Christian unfortunately just may..."
It's strange that Jacob, declared a
minister and academic, would rally accusations about lack of academic
scholarship against anyone.
Are we as Christians wishing to
align with or seek approval of "academics," or the world's standards
of what they perceive as acceptable before God?
Are we to desire whatsoever, the
approval of men?
Rather, shouldn't our desire and focus to be obedient to our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ?
We do recall what Paul has said about who we are in Christ with
God-given gifts, elitism and
intellectualism in 1 Corinthians 1:
4-7
" I thank my God always on
your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That
in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all
knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you; So
that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ;
1 Corinthians 1:19-22:
"For it is written, I will
destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the
understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the
scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish
the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world
by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching
to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks
seek after wisdom:
v. 27-29: "But God hath
chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God
hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which
are mighty;
And base things of the world, and
things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which
are not, to bring to not things that are; that no flesh should glory in
his presence..." v. 31 "...He that glorieth, let him glory in
the Lord."
Paul wrote that he didn't come with
excellence of speech or wisdom, but with weakness, fear and trembling and then
said: I Corinthians 2:4-5
"And my speech and my
preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
"That your faith should not
stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."
In the
end, the question that must be answered is: If these people are so astute and
discerning and to be endorsed, why are they supporting one another?
