God’s Grace, Amazing

by Victoria Dillen

The snow drifted in smothering the sleeping town

Swirling, drifting, enveloping

Temperatures plummeting announce a bitter cold blizzard

The stranger struggled on in his thin torn trench coat

Stumbling, struggling, shivering

Snow caked hair, eyelashes and clothes, his sockless feet freezing

The wind shrieked on, snapping freshly snow-laden trees

Assaulting, shrieking, battering

Sheets of ice polished streets, blocked, treacherous, a hazard

The stranger staggered, his burning fingers turned white

Sobbing, staggering, regretting

Driven, forced on, stinging arctic air causing harsh wheezing

The storm raged, the night sky menacing, sinister

Tormenting, raging, persisting

Houses lay buried, hidden, masked, appearing haphazard

The stranger paused, burying his head in dead hands

Despairing, pausing, praying

His wife, small child, helpless, alone in the ditch, agonizing

The spreading warmth now reviving his heart and limbs

Refreshing, warming, sustaining

Looking up he sees light, a home, renewed, hope recognized

The door urged open, his cry heard, wrapped in warm blankets, dry clothes

Hurrying, urging, pleading

Neighbors run, saving his wife, his child... His Grace, Amazing

****
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Psalm 3:4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Psalms 34:17-19 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Luke 10:29-37 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? …36. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? 37. And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
