Taking
the Name, the Mark & the Number
Part
2: Taking the Mark
Please note:
Research into the Hebrew Roots & Messianic movements
constitutes research into Judaism as well as the occult. We
fully respect each persons right to believe or utilize what
resources they choose. We however, see a clear distinction in
believing the Messiah has come versus utilizing resources
which still await His coming. That is how and why we must
evaluate all to Christ and the New Testament as well as the
Tenach. We do not wish to edit or criticize Judaism, but
recognize it as distinct from our Christian beliefs, just as
many in Judaism also see a distinction and separateness from
our beliefs, and we jointly have mutual respect for our
differences and each other.
"As
for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried:
He
is a buckler to all those that trust in Him."
"For
who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?"
Psalm
18:30-31
Believers must be careful to use the correct Name of our Saviour and the
Father in light of the fact that prophecy has been corrupted
in modern translations. Notice the difference in translations
of the verse that prophetically speaks of the Name with which
God sealed the 144,000 in the book of Revelations. The King
James Bible states that only the Father's name is written in
their foreheads, while the modern versions state that two
names will be used. It cannot be both ways.
Revelation
14:1-
In the KJB
" . . . having his Father's name written in their
foreheads."
In the NIV
" . . . who had his name and his Father's name written
on their foreheads"
In the
Gideons 1986 NT ". . . having His name and the name of
His Father written on their foreheads"
New
Revised Standard ". . . had his name and his Father's
name written on their foreheads"
It is also
imperative to realize that there are three forms of allegiance
to the beast besides open worship--the mark, or the
name or the number of his name. However, the modern
versions again change these very significant verses to be two
issues, those being the name or the number of the beast's
name. Of the various related verses, we shall also compare
Revelation 13:15-17 in light of the Name.
Revelation
13:15 in part states, ". . . that the image of the beast
should both speak and cause that as many as would not worship
the image of the beast to be killed." Verses 16 and 17
state:
In the KJB
" . . . And he had power to give life unto the image of
the beast . . . And he causeth all, both small and great,
rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in
their right hand, or in their foreheads:
And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the
mark, or the name of the beast, or the number
of his name."
In the NIV
" . . . He was given power to give breath to the image
of the first beast, . . . all, both small and great, rich
and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark on
his right hand, or on his forehead, So
that no one could buy or sell, unless he had the mark,
which is the name of the beast, or the
number of his name."
In the New
Revised Standard " . . . and it was allowed to give
breath to the image of the beast . . . all, both small and
great, rich and poor, free and slave, to be marked on
the right hand, or the forehead, so
that no one can buy or sell, who does not have the mark,
that is, the name of the beast, or the
number of its name."
Believers
should carefully consider why the newer versions changed the
meaning and eliminated the clear difference between the mark,
the name and the number of his name. The purpose of these
changes can only be to prevent people from being warned of the
dangers and forms of adherence to the beast. Since the
antichrist will appear as the Christ, the name involved in
these verses must not be mistaken as being our Lord and
Saviour's name, nor should we permit ourselves to be
physically marked in any way.
Many now say
that the reference to not being able to buy or sell with the
name, mark or number of the beast means that we will become a
cashless society. They interpret the mark to be a "chip
implant." Some also believe that the chip will be used to
control behavior. However, the Scriptures merely say that
people won't be able to buy or sell without the mark, number
or name of the beast. In other words, after Rev. 13:15 showing
that those who don't worship the image of the beast are
killed, verse 16 shows that the beast requires an ID
demonstrating that a person does indeed worship that
blasphemy.
There is
nothing in those verses to suggest that people will be taking
the mark before it is forced upon all of humanity. There merely comes a point where all
will be required to exhibit one of the options to show
allegiance to it in order to buy and sell. In other words,
some may have laid aside all the gold, stocks and money in the
world, but these will be worthless for trade unless they are
wearing one of the approved symbols.
The reason for emphasis on the cashless society could be that
it sets up a diversion. Either Christians will avoid the
computer chip or some will take another mark which they are
told sets them apart unto God. Should the global economic
collapse be delayed, they may think they have time --
everything's okay as long as we have cash. However, this may
be a false assumption, adding to Scripture that which it does
not necessarily say.
In Strong's
Concordance we find that the definition for "mark"
in Revelation 13:16-17 applies exclusively to all references
of "the mark" in the book of Revelation. This
definition does not apply to the term "mark" as it
is found in any other book of the Bible.
5480-
charagma, (khar'-ag-mah); from the same as 5482;
a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp (as a badge of servitude),
or sculptured figure (statue):-graven image, mark.
5482-
charasso-(to sharpen to a point, akin to 1125
through the idea of scratching)...
1125--grapho(
graf-o); a prim. verb; to "grave", espec. to
write; fig. to describe:-- describe, write(-ing,-ten) [Eng.
Dictionary def.-- "grave" --Archaic.
engrave; carve; sculpture. 2.impress deeply; fix firmly]
Something
being scratched or etched, as a stamp, hardly sounds like a
computer chip implant, but well indeed may be what is done. Many
are promoting the
"computer chip" as the mark of the beast, as well as
promoting the corrupt versions. The question each must
consider is why the very serious issues of these definitions
and the different translations found in the various new
versions are not being addressed.
The problems
with the chip theory--- are the following: the cost; dependency on
power--which any natural or manmade disaster can eliminate;
the fact that millions are so poor that the use of ATM
machines and the like--which many say will be the launching
for use of the computer chip--is beyond their scope. Verichip,
which is what many are focusing upon, appears to be addressing
all those issues. Since 9-11, they are working at promoting
the 'chipping' of individuals.
Perhaps
most important, is the fact that the beast, will want observable
evidence of his conquest and that these people belong to him.
You cannot see a computer chip under the skin. If there is
chaos with disruption of power and regular services, people
will still need that "mark" to obtain groceries and
do business.
Update: I received the
following information from a reader. Clothing, people and
animals are being 'chipped'. Some are using security as the
issue. This reader noted.
"As a software engineer
working with computers and working with the hardware I felt
that I needed to enlighten you to a little bit of research
information that you might have overlooked. The following is
what you stated on your site:
"Something being scratched or etched, as a stamp, hardly
sounds like a computer chip implant, but it could be.
Especially when one evaluates the mark in relation to the
number. Time will tell. As we consider the application of the
Name, Mark and Number of the Beast, we note that Revelation
13:17-18 have also been altered in the new versions."
"These definitions give greater credence to the application of
the Mark via tattooing or branding, but again doesn't mean a
micro-chip could be used. As we have seen, the Dictionary
definition of "tattoo" is " . . . mark (the skin) with designs
or patterns by pricking it and putting in colors . . . " and
we learned in Part 2 that tattooing and branding are related.
Historically, people have, "use[d] tattooing and scarification
to indicate social rank and affiliation" and " . . . primarily
as proof of ownership."
Marking the skin with a "stick" or "prick," is precisely how
tattoos are applied. When we consider the combination of these
word meanings, "a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp (as a badge
of servitude)" which is thought "to indicate rank" but is
really a "sign of disgrace," the true end-time scenario begins
to emerge. Perhaps the "computer chip" propaganda has been
diseminated to mislead the masses, who will believe that by
avoiding the same they are free to receive God's special mark,
which is really an occult symbol of blasphemy and disgrace. "
When a microchip is going through it's stages of creation it
is etched much like a circuit board is etched. The etching is
what carries the signal throughout the "circuit board".
The sticking or pricking is similar to a needle sticking into
the skin, or feeling the prick of the needle in your skin....
As someone who is always on the cutting edge of technology, I
find it hard to believe that in order to buy or sell you would
need to have a tattoo or a marking of some sort on your skin.
That is not in vogue to my generation or the one after when it
comes to technology.
Having a chip that can store your financial information is
something that my generation would most likely use. It
eliminates the need for multiple credit cards, debit cards,
check book and cash. Have you ever watched the episode of
Seinfield where George has an overloaded wallet? The chip
itself is an RFID chip that transmits a small radio frequency
to a receiver in close proximity.
I wouldn't rule out the microchip. I would actually look more
into the microchip and look at it's potential."
End Update
However,
consider that the worship of the beast and taking of the mark
is a freewill decision, just as our commitment to Christ is a
daily decision to pick up our cross and follow Him. Those who
(will) belong to the beast will have chosen that portion--not
because of mind control --but because of a heart and mind
decision, as heart wrenching as that maybe.
Revelation
14:9-12
"And
the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If
any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his
mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink
of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without
mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be
tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the
holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: and the smoke
of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they
have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his
image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name."
"Here
is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the
commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
Update: January 20, 2010:
I received the following information from a reader:
Subject : FRID TATTOO
I have been
reading your reports and have been blessed by such
good research.
I noticed your
updates and discussions on the “mark” being a tattoo
or microchip and remembered some years ago that a
firm called Alien Technology had a printable
microchip technology – some say this is being put in
currency. Since tattoo is really printing on the
skin, I went looking and found this new company that
has an FRID tattoo. This meets many requirements as
it will be visible for inspection and electronically
accessible. The company is called Somark

I also agree
with your thoughts on the cashless society being
some type of diversion. Although these chips could
soon carry all cards and ID, would the banking
industry want that? How would a person decide to use
an Amex card or a Visa card and where would that
leave loyalty and reward cards? I have worked as a
technical auditor for Visa and card brands on PCI
compliance for a few years and can tell you these
brands are not likely to get squeezed out by a
government ID program. They will want people to have
access to cards. Visa Europe
is actually targeting 2018 to get rid of the check.
Governments are
complaining that black markets are a large part of
GDP that cannot be taxed so perhaps as nations
collapse they will cry out to eliminate cash for tax
revenue.
Stay well…"

In perusing SOMARK's
various information, the use of this technology is for
animals and humans. Electronic ink tattoos are how they are
described by the company, and
it isn't something that can be removed. It's
permanent, can be colored or invisible. It is put within the
layers of skin, on the 3rd or 4th layer.

RFID Tattoo for Tracking Cattle
and Humans
“The Register reports that a St Louis
based company, Somark Innovations, has
successfully tested RFID tattoos to be
used for tracking cattle and other
animals. Details are limited for the
actual tattoo, but it’s said to contain
no metals and can be read up to about
four feet away. Engadget has some more
details on the matter. And yes, the
article does mention RFID tattoos are
possible for people, specifically the
military. From the article: ‘The system
developed by Somark uses an array of
needles to quickly inject a pattern of
dots into each animal, with the pattern
changing for each injection. This
pattern can then be read from over a
meter away using a proprietary reader
operating at high frequency.’"

Invisible RFID Ink Safe For Cattle
And People, Company Says
1.10.07
"The process
developed by Somark involves a
geometric array of micro-needles
and an ink capsule, which is
used to ‘tattoo’ an animal. The
ink can be detected from 4 feet
away.by K.C. Jones,
InformationWeek
...Somark
Innovations announced this week
that it successfully tested
biocompatible RFID ink, which
can be read through animal
hairs....
Chief
scientist Ramos Mays
said the tests provide a
true proof-of-principle
and mitigate most of the
technological risks in
terms of the product’s
performance. “This
proves the ability to
create a synthetic
biometric or fake
fingerprint with
biocompatible, chipless
RFID ink and read it
through hair,” he said.
Co-founder Mark
Pydynowski said during
an interview Wednesday
that the ink doesn’t
contain any metals and
can be either invisible
or colored. He declined
to say what is in the
ink, but said he’s
certain that it is 100%
biocompatible and
chemically inert. He
also said it is safe for
people and animals.
The
process developed by
Somark involves a
geometric array of
micro-needles and a
reusable applicator with
a one-time-use ink
capsule. Pydynowski said
it takes five to 10
seconds to “stamp or
tattoo” an animal, and
there is no need to
remove the fur. The ink
remains in the dermal
layer, and a reader can
detect it from 4 feet
away.
“Conceptually, you can
think of it in the same
way that visible light
is reflected by
mirrors,” he said,
adding that the actual
process is slightly
different and
proprietary.
The amount of
information
contained in the
ink depends on
the surface area
available, he
said. The U.S.
Department of
Agriculture
calls for a
15-digit number
to track cattle.
The first three
digits are “840″
for the U.S.
country code.
The remaining
digits are
unique
identifiers. The
numbers would
link to a
database
containing more
information.
“It can say
where it has
been, who it has
talked to, who
it has eaten
with, and who
else it has been
in contact
with,”
Pydynowski said.
...The ink also
could be used to
track and rescue
soldiers,
Pydynowski said.
“It could help
identify friends
or foes, prevent
friendly fire,
and help save
soldiers’
lives,” he said.
“It’s a very
scary
proposition when
you’re dealing
with humans, but
with military
personnel, we’re
talking about
saving soldiers’
lives and it may
be something
worthwhile.”

Hello Vicky,
I was thinking more
on these Somark tattoos, and if a tattoo will be the
future mark there should be a lot more research and
development in the early stages for the technology.
More players than Somark and offering a large
diversity of features that will somehow come
together in a final product. Also more confusion as
you have documented with the modern translations,
Tim LaHaye, and other deceivers. The last is the
main reason Christians need to help make these
things clear...
Scripture indicates
that force will be used to implement the mark, but
wouldn’t it be appealing to have a security
identification device that could be invisible and
visible as needed like when passing through
airports? Many would resist an always visible
tattoo, and I think government would like the mark
to be physically viewable at times.
Surely government
would want more control to enforce the no buy, sell,
trade rule. Perhaps the four foot RF reading is not
yet enough – maybe 400ft or 4000 ft? What if it
needed power and could get it from the “host”?
Here are some links
to technology that offers all this and more: Print
highly functional tattoos with nano-ink technology,
turn off the tattoo display as needed, very trendy
look. I am sure Phillips’ tattoo designs would
attract many more people to tattooing if it was on
the market.

please note the video related to this is sexual in

existent and then by what appears to be body temperature
changes, the tattoo appears. I do not recommend viewing

Inspection
of Isaiah 44:5 reveals these most important variations in
Scripture concerning the mark, the name and tattoos.
Isaiah 44:5 in the King
James Bible says,
"One shall say, I am
the LORD'S; and another shall call himself by the name of
Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto
the LORD, and surname himself by the name of
Israel."
The NIV reads: "One
will say, "I belong to the LORD"; another will call
himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write
on his hand, "The LORD'," and will take the
name Israel."
The NASV, NIRV, NLT, ASV (in
the footnotes), NWT, Bible In Basic English, RSV, all
have it.
The TEV (Good News Bible)
has: "...They each will mark the name of the LORD on
their arms..."
The Amplified Bible:
"...and another will write [even brand or tattoo] upon
his hand, I am the Lord's..."
JPS
Jewish Publications Society Bible "One shall say, "I
am the Lord's"
Another shall use the name of "Jacob", Another shall
mark his arm "of the Lord's" And adopt the name
of "Israel"."

The
Sacred Name Directory
Researching
proponents of changing the name of the Father and the Son,
Jesus Christ, brings one to The Sacred Name Directory, which
involves some sixty plus websites. Having studied the various
websites and their beliefs, it is astonishing to see that each
of these sites lay claim to having the correct Names of the
Father and the Son, although the contradictions in opinion and
variations of "the Only Name" are massive.
The
Sacred Name Directory and groups involved in this network vary
from Messianic and Hebrew Roots advocates, Orthodox Jews to
Seventh Day Adventists to Jehovah Witnesses. Herbert and
Garner Ted Armstrong of the World Wide Church of God led the
way in some arenas of thought in the Sacred Name and gave
birth to the Sabbatarian webring (which deals with the Sabbath
issue) which many in the Directory groups are also promoting.
The Sacred
Name Directory is found at http://qumran.com/sacrednames/
under the Qumran Bet. "A Brief History of the [Sacred]
Name Movement in America by L. D. Snow" is presented
which includes this chilling warning regarding the issues of
the Name and the Mark of the beast. [caps in original]
" . . . I say, THE ISSUE is and will be, HIS NAME AND
MARK WRITTEN IN YOUR FOREHEAD (Rev. 14:1; 22:4) or,
the MARK, NAME AND NUMBER OF THE BEAST.
Which do you want? . . . but again
I plead with YOU, ---
PREPARE TO MEET THY CREATOR, they ELOHIM (Mighty One),
have His NAME [Yud-Hay-Vav/Waw/Cholom-Hay]
written in your forehead--NOW!
Be on the safe side, the MESSIAH IS SOON COMING! . . . .
"
In other
words, Messengers of Messiah, James
Trimm, Yair Davidy and
Lost Tribes, and many Hebrew Roots and Messianic
organizations are linked to groups which are promoting the
idea that people need to have "his Name and
Mark" written in or on their foreheads as an
alternative to the mark, name, or number of the beast. Is
it possible they are referring to a physical marking?
Are
they in fact promoting the Mark of the Beast?

Ye
shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for
the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am
the LORD. Leviticus 19:28 |
Since God's
people are sealed by the Father through Christ and with the
Holy Spirit, (Ephesians 4:30; 2 Corinthians 1:22-23) what is
this teaching really about? Obviously the different
translations have changed the meaning significantly. Is it
possible the aforementioned "alternative name and
mark" is speaking of a physical application?
David Cloud's article "Tattooing for Jesus"
reveals the apparent introduction of this idea to the Church.
[Bolding mine]
"Reporter
Douglas Todd of The Vancouver Sun visited the Vineyard
Christian Fellowship in Langley, British Columbia, and found
that tattoos are the newest "in thing" for
Vineyard Christians. Amy Bonde, who is a staff member
at the Vineyard in Langley, has a large Celtic cross tattooed
on the small of her back. Encircling the cross are Hebrew
letters that allegedly mean, "I am my beloved's,
and he is mine." Bonde says the tattoo signifies
that she looks upon Jesus Christ as her
"lover." Another Vineyard member, Peter
Davyduck, has a tattoo of the word "SIN" on his
ankle. He says this is a message to "judgmental
Christians that everyone is a sinner and should be accepted
in spite of it."
"The
Vancouver Sun report notes that the tattooing represents
"a sign of a seismic shift in evangelical Christianity,
which has been associated for most of this century with
harsh rules about controlling one's body: no dancing, no
long hair on men, no pants on women, no drinking, no
dancing, no jewelry and certainly NO TATTOOING."
"The
Bismarck Tribune (North Dakota) ran an article in November
1998 about the Christian Tattoo Association operated by
Randy Mastre and two other members of New Song Community
Church in Bismarck. Their goal is "to bring
Christianity to tattooers."
" . .
. . Amy Bonde admits that she got a tattoo "partly
out of rebellion against the normal Christian
stereotype of 'You can't do this, you can't do that.'"
She admits that her mother did not want her to get a
tattoo and did not like it . . . . "

for Jesus" article from David Cloud's Way of Life
report which also deals with the Scriptural basis of why
it's wrong.]

& Prophecy and their view of tattooing.
Remembering
that the Greek dictionary defined "the mark" to
include "a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp" and
" to "grave", espec. to write", it is
interesting to find the Dictionary definition of
"tattoo" is " . . . mark (the skin) with
designs or patterns by pricking it and putting in colors . . .
. "
According to
Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 99,
"Tattooing:
method of decorating the skin by inserting colored
substances under the surface. The skin is punctured with a
sharp instrument, which now is usually an electric needle.
In many parts of the world tribal people use tattooing and
scarification to indicate social rank and affiliation . . .
Scarification involves slashing the skin and introducing
irritants into the wounds, which, when healed, leave
pronounced scars . . . "
Encarta also
relates tattooing to branding and states:
Branding:
originally, searing of flesh with a hot iron to produce a
scar with an easily recognizable pattern for identification
or other purposes. Branding was formerly used on human
beings . . . Branding today is often done with chemicals,
tattooing, paint, tagging, or ear-notching . . . Used at
first primarily as proof of ownership . . . . "
Rita Elkins,
a reporter for Florida Today, reports in the article,
"CHRISTIAN PUNKS HAVE PIERCINGS, TATTOOS AND . . .
RADICAL FAITH," 1 that this "radical"
approach is being undertaken by young people across North
America. It is found acceptable and promoted by some in
leadership, despite Scripture to the contrary, as discussed by
David Cloud in Tattooing for Jesus. Rita Elkins writes:
"
. . . Reflecting a national trend, hundreds of teens and
young adults from Titusville to Sebastian are combining punk
appearance with a radical Christianity based on the Bible
and a personal, often deeply emotional, relationship with
Jesus Christ."
"A
lot of people look at us different because we have piercings
and we're Christian," says Ashley Wecker, 15, . . . At
last week's Deeper service, she was sporting silver jewelry
in multiple-pierced ears and in one pierced eyebrow.
"I
struggled with it at first," admits her father, Richard
Wecker, 50. But after hearing a pastor ask if parents would
prefer children who are "sold out to Christ," or
children who "are basically formed in our image,"
Wecker says he relaxed . . .
"If
their heart is after Jesus, what difference does it make?
He's given me at least a peace about it, as long as I can
see where their hearts are." 2
Various
leadership in the Vineyard, Calvary Chapel and Pentecostal
groups mentioned in this report are teaching by word and
example that Biblical disobedience is to be upheld by pastors
and parents. Disobedience means "refusing to obey"
or "to defy".
Rebellion
means, "an act of resistance against any authority; a
revolt or fight against any restriction." 3
Being
rebellious is "defying authority; acting like a rebel . .
. hard to manage . . . mutinous, disobedient." 4
Scripture
reminds us clearly that rebellion is a very serious issue and
there can be no excuse for allowing it to become a part of our
Christian walk, no matter our age. The issue of rebellion,
which some leaders and young people admit is at least part of
the reason for taking these marks, is dealt with in strong
terms in Scripture.
I Samuel
15:23
"For
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is
as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the
word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being
king."
Those in
leadership who promote or condone these sins have seemingly
forgotten or deliberately omitted what Paul states in
Galatians 5:19-21. Among " . . . the works of the flesh
which are manifest," are listed the very issues of ,
"Idolatry, witchcraft, variance, wrath . . . " and
much more. The result of allowing those works to be manifest
in our lives:
" .
. . of the which I tell you before, as I have also told
you in time past, that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God."
Essential
Disobedience?
Psalm
44:20-21
"If
we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out
our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out?
for he knoweth the secrets of the heart."
Only God
knows a person's heart, however, we know what is inside the
heart always comes out, be it rebellion or obedience. Rita
Elkins continues in her report, that these teens and youth
leadership believe the body markings are an essential part of
their faith:
"A
handful of Brevard teens -- considered radical even by their
Christian peers -- say body marking is an essential part
of their faith. But most of the local Christian punks
"are just, you know, being teen-agers," says
Ashley Wecker.
In other words, it's only coincidence they're finding faith
at the same time they're digging punk styles."
"I
wanted a tattoo for a long time, for solely
non-Christian reasons," says Brandon Eaton,
17. "But God is my life, so everything I do reflects
that." The result? A Star of David with
"Jesus" tattooed on the outside of his calf.
" . .
. Andy Richardson . . . once had his nipples pierced, but
decided soon after it wasn't for him. Now he has two
Christian-themed tattoos in private locations on his body.
"They're both for me and the Lord -- not for other
people to see - - to remind me every day when I wake up that
he is my life," says Richardson, who works with
various church youth groups and overseas missions. "A
tattoo is forever, like the Lord's forever." 5
As
indicated, for many tattooing is a form of rebellion. We know
that the Star
of David is an occult symbol and no Christian can embrace
it as being a part of Biblical teaching. However, these
advocates of tattooing or branding occult marks on young
people rationalize their practice by suggesting that being
marked for God is a Biblical concept.
" . .
. Supporters point to Bible verses hinting at its
acceptability. There are even indications God used
physical markings to set people apart for divine purposes."
"A
compelling example is a popular T-shirt that reads,
"Body piercing saved my life," accompanied by
drawings of Jesus' pierced hands and feet."
" . . . . one youth's personal Web page: http://www.angelfire.com/oh/dorkville/
.[states] " . . . The word I like to use is tau-too.
Tau is a Hebrew letter that means cross or mark, so it is a
cross mark for God." 6
Rationalization
for marking Christians will likely be based upon the
misinterpretation of Scripture passages such as Ezekiel 9 and
denial of Leviticus 19:28, as is found on the website of the
aforementioned youth who promotes "tau-tooing." This
lad also promotes a book on Tau-tooing and the Bible, although
any occultist will recognize that TAU is the universal symbol
of consecration for the Royal Arch Degree of Masonry.
"Tau
(Heb.). That which has now become the square Hebrew letter tau,
but was ages before the invention of the Jewish alphabet,
the Egyptian handled cross, the crux ansata of the Latins,
and identical with the Egyptian ankh. This mark belonged
exclusively, and still belongs, to the Adepts of every
country. As Kenneth R.F. Mackenzie shows, "It was a
symbol of salvation and consecration, and as such has ben
adopted as a Masonic symbol used by the ancient Mexicans --
as its presence on one of the palaces at Palenque shows --
as well as by the Hindus, who placed the tau on the
brows of their Chelas. [H.P. Blavatsky, Theosophical
Glossary]"
Mark
C. Cairnes, wrote in "Secret Ritual and Manhood in
Victorian America," that the tau was a
symbol which was synonymous with the Royal Arch of
Freemasonry. According to their ritual and interpretation of
Ezekiel, God will have placed the Tau symbol on the righteous
before the impending destruction of Jerusalem. Those not
having it are to be destroyed.
"The
Royal Arch rite was largely based on Ezekiel, a prophet who
endured the Babylonian Captivity and had a vision of God's
destruction of Jerusalem. (Ezekiel 9-10). He saw that God
placed the tau symbol upon the foreheads of the righteous;
everyone else He slaughtered for persisting in sin. The
ritual borrowed Ezekiel's narrative and many of his symbols.
It specified that the chains, the hoodwinks, and the
confinement of Babylonian captivity symbolized man's bondage
to sin, which had "destroyed within us the first temple
of purity and innocence." 23
God does not
require us to be physically marked to show that we are set
apart for Him. Rather, He requires obedience to His Word which
states: Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh . . . nor
print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Lev. 19:28.
To clarify,
this is not advocating living under Old Testament
Law. Some define the Old Testament Law like this. The three major divisions of the Law (Deut. 4:44) are the
testimonies (moral duties), the statutes (ceremonial duties)
and the judgments or ordinances (civil and social duties). The
moral portion of the Law is summarized in the Ten Commandments
(Ex. 20:1-17; Deut. 5:6-21). We embrace all 66 books of the
Bible.
Jesus summed
up the moral law as "the law and the prophets"
[Matt.22:37-38]. James called this "the royal law of
love" [James 2:8] and has to do with love of God and
neighbor and both Jesus and James stressed the importance of
love of God and neighbor. However, only the indwelling Christ
enables the believer to obey this spiritual law, and that not
perfectly because we are still in the flesh.
The matter of tattooing, however, was a ritual common to
pagan religions that involved the worship of other gods. [See
the prophets of Baal in I Kings 18:28] To mark oneself in
allegiance to a strange god violates what Jesus called
"the first and greatest commandment" of the moral
law -- "to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." [Matt.22:37]
Marking is
being found acceptable by some Believers, after embracing the
false teachings within Tim LaHaye's
writings. Many are coming to the concept that since they are
already 'marked' or sealed by God, it won't matter if they
take the Mark of the beast. Wrong. See: Putting
it Together. Also see Elimination
of the Cross See: also in the 9/11

Do We Weep?
Pentecostal,
Vineyard, Calvary Chapel and similar affiliations mentioned in
these reports are justifying their disobedience by
rationalizing that tattoos are simply an art form.
"The
Christian Tattoo Association boasts almost 100 tattoo
parlors as members . . .
"We don't want everybody in the world to think that
tattooing is the work of the devil, because it isn't,"
says Randy Mastre of Bismarck, N.D., a Pentecostal
seminarian and tattoo artist who founded the
association. "It's a beautiful art form."
"Locally,
Christian punks can be found scattered in area churches. But
they tend to congregate around New Life Christian Center in
Titusville, Calvary Chapel on Merritt Island and at South
Brevard's Tabernacle Church. Each of these has strong
contemporary music programs and youth ministries that refuse
to be shocked by appearances.
" . .
. Is all this a bit extreme? Yes, but that works with teens,
says Vineyard Christian Fellowship youth pastor Curtis
Deming.
"I find that teen-agers as a species
tend to gravitate to extremes, and that mainstream
moderation in anything is boring to them," says Deming,
who sometimes has to reel kids in from other dangerous
extremes. "But my answer wouldn't be, `Don't go
overboard with this God thing.' " 7
To suggest
that teen-agers are a separate "species" with
different sin issues and different needs for Biblical truth
and obedience, is far from the truth of God's Word. Teens
especially need clear teaching of God's word and understanding
which comes from parents taking the time to talk seriously
with them and to teach them Biblical precepts. (Deuteronomy
6:7;Proverbs 22:6) If they do not learn obedience and respect
for their parents and Biblical truth, they will most likely
have a difficult time remaining obedient to God, a trend which
is evidenced in these reports.
Since many
do not know the Scriptures and are also embracing the
rewritten versions that so carefully change verses about many
issues--it is conceivable that such people will be snared into
believing that they must receive a mark that is distinctive
for "Christians" to show themselves to be 'chosen'.
From whence does the concept come that people should be set
apart for a divine purpose by a mark?
Armies
of False Teachings
The
Restorationist or Dominionist theology, various Joel's Army
and similar elitist teachings of the Vineyard, Pentecostal and
Calvary Chapel groups, support variations of Manifest Sons of
God doctrine, which promote the perfection of saints through
the elevation and teachings of latter-day prophets and
apostles. It is believed by some that under select leaders,
those who achieve a certain level of holiness will be able to
defeat all enemies and will eventually become immortal. For

Costa Mesa
Calvary Chapel, of which Vineyard churches were an affiliate,
was founded by a small group under Chuck Smith, and grew under
the leadership of the late hippie and "evangelist",
Lonnie Frisbee. Pastor Chuck Smith upheld Frisbee as youth
pastor from 1968 until late1971. Smith and Frisbee believed
that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit of Joel's prophecy was
a precursor to Christ's return.8. Frisbee contended
that the Joel's prophecy placed youth "on the vanguard of
the spiritual revolution," which he believed was being
fulfilled by the Jesus People of the 60's and 70's.
"The
Book of Joel had prophesied the great outpouring of the Holy
Spirit, which would take the form of much witnessing and a
highly intensified devotion on the part of believers in
Christ. Joel's prophecy placed youth in the vanguard of the
spiritual revolution, which, Lonnie Frisbee contends, is
being fulfilled now by the Jesus People." 9.
According to
the authors of 'The Jesus Movement', most involved in the
Jesus People aligned with the Joel's Prophecy teaching despite
what the apostle Peter said in Acts 2:16.
"When
Israel . . . regained its lost territory in the 1967 war God
supposedly set in motion the prophecy of Joel that young
people would spearhead the great evangelistic effort of the
last days. The Jesus People see themselves as the
fulfillment of that prophecy. The Christian Foundation sees
itself as Joel's Army. Most other Jesus People see
themselves in terms of that same prophecy. The prophecy,
which is one of the most important passages in the Jesus
People canon, is found in Joel 2:28-32."
"In
his sermon on the day of Pentecost, Peter quoted that
prophecy and prefaced it with the remark: "But this is
that which was spoken by the prophet Joel" (Acts 2:16).
But since the Jesus People collapse all history between the
Book of Acts and the present moment,[1972] they see
themselves as the continuing fulfillment of Joel's words. As
the church in the Book of Acts represented "the former
rain" that brought the first fruits, the Jesus People
adhere to standard Pentecostalist view that they are
"the latter rain" referred to by the prophets and
that they will bring in the last fruits of the great harvest
which will immediately precede the second coming . . .
" 10
Update:
The Way International began with
Victor Paul Wierwille. Wierwille developed many of his
theological
ideas by plagiarizing from such writers as E. W. Bullinger, George Lamsa, Kenyon and
several others. The Way International teachings include: Jesus
Christ is not God, denial of the three persons of the Godhead, i.e. no Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
4
Mary
was not the mother of God come in the flesh, but the mother of a man, the Old
and New
Testaments were originally written in Aramaic, pro-abortion, bad seed
theology, mass weddings, stockpiling of weapons, American holocaust and invasion, them or us mentality and much more.
5
Victor Paul Wierwille was
eventually part of the Jesus People
movement, and is remembered by the Jesus Movement website.
".... Believing that much of the Christian was in error, in
1955 Wierwille founded The Way to educate young men and women in the
"correct way of biblical education." ... The Way International raised the ire of other
Christian groups, labelled a "cult" because of their antitrinitarian
views. One of the largest of all the extremist groups of the Jesus People
movement, by the mid-1970s the organization boasted over 20,000 active
members..." 1
It is noteworthy that it was Victor Wierwille
who went to the House of Acts in 1968 and gave Ted Wise, the Heefners, Doops and
Lonnie and Connie Frisbee, and several others their understanding of the Holy
Spirit. Wierwille worked miracles, cast out demons--which he did while teaching
them about the Holy Spirit, as well as teaching them how to speak tongues, all in one night. The Heefners
and Doops joined Wierwille and helped set up his national organization. 2
Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
When first challenged by Ted
Wise, who was one of the founding 'fathers' of the Jesus
people movement, about his belief in Christ and even though he
rejected the divinity of Jesus Christ, Wierwille passed with
flying colors.
"The
first person Wierwille met was Ted Wise, who put him through
a test he couldn’t possibly fail. Wise said, "You
know, it says in I John you test the spirits. We usually ask
everybody here to confess the Lord Jesus Christ, or they
freak out and they can’t. So where do you stand on
this?"
"And
that pleased Wierwille," said Heefner, "he liked
that up-frontness. And he gave his witness. So by the time
he was through with two or three minutes of talking, we
said, ‘Okay, fella, we believe you.’ " 3
Lonnie and Connie Frisbee and the Wises began taking Wierwille's
PFAL classes and then discontinued. Lonnie then went to join Chuck Smith in
Costa Mesa's Calvary Chapel, which caused an explosion on growth. Frisbee eventually joined with John Wimber,
who had also been with Chuck Smith. Wimber later split and helped start the Vineyard
movement with Frisbee joining him and also others. For

********
Since the
Jesus People are no longer youth and Christ hasn't returned,
it is unclear how their beliefs have been affected. It would
appear they merely have passed the 'sword' onto the young
people swelling their ranks, although some have taken the role
of being the "elevated prophets and apostles."
Clifford
Hill writes of prophecies by the controversial Bob Jones.
Jones had been part of the Kansas City Prophets who were
endorsed and promoted by John
Wimber, co-founder of the
Vineyard. Bob Jones taught that God was preparing a
"special breed" or an army of 'dread champions"
composed of young people. Many support this theory, believing
that this elite group will be composed of youth up to the age
of thirty.
"Jones
believed that the generation of children born since 1973
would form the final generation of believers whom God was
preparing as the Bride of Christ to take control of the
world and present the kingdom to Christ on his return. He
continued, "I do believe what he's beginning to do is a
restoration of his very nature down here. Your children will
come behind you and they'll start on your level of
righteousness and holiness and they'll take off from
there."11
John Wimber
incorporated Jones' concept of 'the dread champions' into his
Vineyard teachings." 12. Hill writes that this was
evidenced in the brochure for an October 1990 meeting where
John Wimber wrote,
"God
has given us a vision to see the body of Christ move from
being an inactive audience to a Spirit-filled army . . . God
is about to unloose a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit
of an unprecedented magnitude . . . He is looking for
individuals who will be 'dread champions" for his
cause." 13.
According to
Hill, just months previous to that vision, Paul Cain was in
Anaheim with John Wimber and also taught about these
"dreadful champions".
"
God's strange act is going to bring a new order of things
and bring a new breed in and bring a transformation." .
. . . "Little children are going to lay their hands on
the sick and heal multitudes . . . We are going to be just
like the Lord . . . They're going to say, "Here comes
that dreadful, fearful army of champions. Here comes those
with a word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, the working of
miracles, with a healing ministry, with the power to heal
the sick and raise the dead, with the power to know what's
going on behind the Iron Curtain.' You're really going to be
a fearsome group before this thing's all over . . . "
" . .
. Cain used prophecy to confirm the Latter rain teaching
that world evangelisation would result from the supernatural
power which was going to be given to believers. This
teaching was central to Wimber's message. " 14
We know that
this teaching is in total conflict with the apostasy foretold
in 2 Thessalonians 2:3
"Let
no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall
not come, except there come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"
Restorationist
and Dominionist proponents believe they will conquer the
nations before Christ returns, as Joel's army, whereby they
will dispense judgment on the ungodly and those who reject
their leadership. John Wimber, Paul Cain and their followers
taught that they will control and 'police' the nations as
indicated by Cain's statements.
"It
is also interesting to see how Cain used prophecy to confirm
the Latter Rain teaching that world evangelisation would
result from the supernatural power which was going to be
given to believers. This teaching was central to Wimber's
message. In the same speech Paul Cain prophesied that the
new breed would possess power to overcome the enemies of the
gospel and strike terror into them, 'There's going to be an
awesome, reverential fear and respect for the church because
the church is going to regain her power, lose her
restrictions, lose her weakness . . . you're going to be
called upon by presidents and kings of nations, heads of
state . . . . God is going to have his army and they are
going to be a fearful bunch and they are going to go to
every place on the face of the earth..." 15
If these are
indeed the last days as many believe, we know that it is not
Christians who will be in power, according to many Scriptures
such as:
Revelation
17:17
"For
God hath put in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to
agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the
words of God shall be fulfilled."
According to
some, anyone who does not uphold these various leadership or
teachings will be viewed as an enemy of God. That will have to
include people who uphold obedience to the Word of God. The
"dreaded champions" belief might be an indication of
the type of spirituality required to wage war against God's
people and yet believe one was actually working for God.
John 16:2
"They
shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time will
cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth
God a service."
Those who
claim to belong to Jesus Christ and then take a different name
for the Saviour, who take a mark and promote Biblical
disobedience are described in verses like:
2
Thessalonians 2:11-12
" And
for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that
they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who
believe not the truth, but had pleasure in
unrighteousness."
Tattoos
for Everyone
Those who
are Tattooing themselves with various terminology and
occult symbols are paving the way to acceptance of a
physical mark. We know, according to the Scriptures that the
beast will require people to be physically marked. Tattooing
is being so mainstreamed that it has become a Court issue in
the United States--even a matter of "protected
rights".
The Boston
Globe article by Joe Sciacca, "I (heart) Mom, but I
can't put it in writing" on May 3, 1999, reported that
the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was suing so that
tattoos are a protected right and available in all states.
Currently they are illegal in Massachusetts. 16. The
ACLU lawsuit is based on some of the ideas recorded by
Sciacca, who states that,
"What's
really in at the moment is tribal art or ``blackwork,''
intricate designs and patterns."
"Persons
across the cultural spectrum of America have tattoos,"
the civil liberties suit says.
"Estimates
of the numbers of Americans in certain age groups who have
tattoos range as high as 30 percent.
"Persons
obtain tattoos to demonstrate their lifelong commitment to
other persons, institutions, religious beliefs and to
political or personal beliefs," the suit
maintains." 17
Mark
Initiation & Diversity
It is
reported that some New Ager's have already accepted the
"mark" as part of their initiation ceremonies.
"A
growing number of New Ager's HAVE ALREADY UNDERGONE AN
INITIATION CEREMONY AND ACCEPTED THE MARK. They almost
universally report that although they approach the ceremony
with dread and foreboding, after it is over. . . 'I
discovered that the LINES ON THE PALM OF MY RIGHT HAND HAD
BEEN ALTERED, and a portion of them now FORMED A SIX-POINTED
STAR about an inch in circumference. It terrified me when I
first spotted it. . . But as time went on, I learned to
accept the changes within my body, and I really felt quite
special." (Marrs: Mystery Mark, p. 39) 18.
We have seen
how "Christian" youth believe that tattooing sets
them apart as 'special' or chosen by God for a unique purpose.
The mainstreaming of tattooing and branding was reported in
the media over two years ago.
"As
more Americans proudly display tattoos and pierced body
parts, others are adopting another form of 'body art':
branding. Strips of surgical steel are heated to 1,100
degrees Fahrenheit and pressed into the skin to produce
scars in a variety of shapes.
"Though far less common than tattoos or piercing,
branding has caught on since its commercial infancy a decade
ago on the West Coast; branding salons have set up shop in
the East, particularly in the New York area. Two years ago,
Primal Urge, a branding and piercing parlor in New Hope,
Pa., performed only two or three brandings each month. Now
Primal Urge brands a customer nearly every business day; the
average age of the customers is in the mid-30s. . .
"Pierced skin will usually close up and tattoos can be
removed with lasers, but brands are forever. Many brandees
are less focused on the indelible future than the moment of
searing pain and the ensuing endomorphin rush. . . "19.
Tom Lamb of
the Radical Pilgrim wrote to inform us about the tattoo rage
in New Zealand. He also wrote to Andrew Strom at the end of
last year about his justification of 'gangs for Jesus' and the
trend for "Christian" tattoos. According to this New
Age Charismatic trend, many Maori 19b
for instance, who turned to Christianity last century, no
longer would have to give up their moko in the light of
Scripture but can now embrace it along with other unscriptural
practices. Knowing there are many Christian Maoris who are
against the moko 19c,
not to mention many other Maoris who are not tattooed in any
way and would not be willing to have a tattoo, this whole
trend created by the New Age is bent on creating spiritual and
social conflict. The end goal is to eliminate Biblical
Christianity.
"In
regards to tattoos: I made brief mention of this in a
letter I sent Andrew Strom last year (found on "The
Two Wines" 19d):
[Some
other things which concern me about your ministry Brother
... firstly: God using "sanctified
gangs" in these last days. Praise Him for
individual gang members who are coming to the grace of God.
But to exchange gang paraphernalia for christian
paraphernalia, like chapters and patches for Jesus etc., is
not for the spiritual man. I have seen photos in
our own local newspaper of Bodgie types who have apparently
been saved, and are now virtually cool "Bodgies"
for Jesus. Meaning, they now have tats (tattoos)
inscribed on them like "Jesus saves", and wear all
the same (crazy) apparel they wore before, but with
christian symbols (and mottos) on, along with their crazy
hair duze.
Zep. 1:8
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S
sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's
children, and all such as are clothed with strange
apparel.
Didn't
Keith Green call this "Jesus" junk. I heard
the other day someone ringing up our local christian radio
station justifying their brother getting a pierced tongue,
saying they had no problem with this as God knew his heart.
These sickened things shouldn't even be discussed in
Christian circles, as the word of God is clear about marking
and mutilating the temple.] . . .
First we
had the big push on 'piercing', then 'tattooing', and a few
months ago I remember the TV news reporting (with footage)
the introduction of 'branding' (stamping symbols on the body
using a heated utensil) in our country." The TV
announcer made the presentation in a light hearted manner,
with a smile, if it was just another "fun" craze
we should all accept." 20.
2
Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things
are passed away; behold all things are become new."
New Zealand
is reported to be one of the most tattooed countries in the
world, where, like the United States, it is becoming a
thriving business. This is due to the Maori
moko (tattoo) 20a , which practice is believed to have been
brought to New Zealand by the Polynesians who migrated there.
"Moko was remarkable because the designs were normally
cut into the skin of the face with chisels, not punctured with
needle-combs as was the usual case with Maori body tattoo-and
tattooing elsewhere in Oceania." Moko facial tattoos are
still being worn by today’s Maori who strive to preserve
their heritage. The Maori ancient tattooing consisted of
graphic detailed spiritual
face to feet design work 20b, which temporarily ceased for
some with their introduction to Christianity. Now a new
age form of tattooing, along with the resurrected traditional
moko and invented western heathendom, is becoming fashionable
and acceptable.
Romans 6:6
"Knowing
this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body
of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not
serve sin."
The
'Christian' trend of reverting to and promoting the pagan
roots and practices of a particular people and culture is not
limited to the tattooing of the Maori. We find that YWAM also
promotes the acceptance of ancient customs derived from pagan
beliefs. Part of YWAM's presentation often includes
entertainment by an affiliate group called ISLAND BREEZE,
whose members are considered to be full-time missionaries. (James Dobson also brought them to his org. to perform)
According to
their web site, Island
Breeze International 21
"is affiliated with Youth with a
Mission (YWAM) which the worlds largest missions organisation,
the University of the Nations, which has 3 campuses in
Switzerland, Hawaii and Tonga and Youth With A Mission
Training NZ."
Their stated
Mandate presents the familiar New Age phrase, "creating
Unity in diversity." This Mandate falsely presents the
idea that paganistic practices in various cultures are merely
diversities in thought.
"The
mandate of Island Breeze is to "Redeem the cultures of
the nations to fulfill the great commission"! Every
team & every team member is committed to seeing the
cultural diversities of every people group released into the
freedom and creativity that God has placed within each
ethnos, and re-align them with the original intentions he
had for them. Therefore creating UNITY IN DIVERSITY, as has
been for told in:
Revelations 7:9 "and I looked and behold, and, there
was a great multitude that no one could count, standing
before the throne room of God, every nation and tribe, all
peoples and languages, and they were singing "Holy are
you Lord . . ."
From this picture we have a true understanding of God's
desire for mankind, and this is one of Island Breeze'
strongest foundations, and, the driving force behind each
member that is involved." 21a
An observer
of the ISLAND BREEZE performance states that dancers paint
their faces and grimace with tongues extended, which is
reminiscent of wooden religious carvings that are from the
Pacific Island culture. "Wearing brief costumes they do
the frenetic dances that are part of the old customs."
We know that
most tribes and cultures based their beliefs on the occult and
'gods', and those beliefs dictated what they did through
dance, rituals and appearance. That is no different than the
expected influence of Biblical truth and obedience to it, in
our own lives. To reject this fact is to deny the very history
being proclaimed by these various groups.
Such
paganism is retained among other 'Christian' native groups in
the North American First Nations of Canada. First Nations
Gospel Assembly professes Christianity yet promotes the
shamanism of DreamCatchers 22,
which is in their logo. Based upon the Masonic point within a
circle, the Legend
of the DreamCatcher
22a tells the history of this talisman to
ward off bad dreams. Also like the Masons, "At FNGA we
believe that all people and cultures are on a spiritual
journey and God loves all people regardless of their culture
or personal world view."
This type of syncretism is reminiscent of Promise Keepers
"Stand in the Gap" gathering in Washington, D.C. in
October of 1997 where several native American Indians opened
the Sacred Assembly with an Indian chant. Only another
American Indian would know the interpretation of this chant
and which "god" may have been invoked. An ancient
Indian invocation would have addressed the sun god commonly
worshipped by primitive American tribes.
PK founder Bill
McCartney spoke favorably of the syncretism of cultural and
racial traditions as part of "racial reconciliation in
the body of Christ": ". . . this is unity in
diversity, this is diversity without dissension"23.
-- as long as one proclaims the Name of Jesus. Unfortunately,
"another Jesus" was being proclaimed. (Phil. 2:2, I
Thessalonians 4:7-9)
Paul states
in 2 Corinthians 11: 3-4
"But
I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve
through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from
the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh
preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye
receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or
another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well
bear with him."
Biblical
Obedience
In the
aforementioned apostate groups, there is a clear disregard of
the requirement for pastoral leadership to teach the principle
that young people must honor and obey their parents. According
to Scripture, this requirement is not lifted when a child
becomes a teenager.
Part 1 of this series mentioned Columbine
High School and similar horrors. Many are pointing fingers at
parents -- what they teach and how they discipline. More than
ever the Biblical truths regarding the relationship of parents
and their children and teens need to be upheld--especially by
clergy and those in youth leadership. As cited in these
reports, there was clear endorsement by Christian leaders of
young people disobeying their parents' commands.
Have these
people who are upholding Biblical disobedience forgotten or
deliberately ignored such verses as Ephesians 6:1-4, which are
foundational to family relationships? Or Colossians 3:20 which
says:
"Children,
obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing
unto the Lord."
Certainly a
person in spiritual leadership needs to possess the many
qualifications set down in the Scriptures before being
accepted in that role. One requirement of an elder is that he
"ruleth well his own house, having his children in
subjection with all gravity." (I Tim. 3:4) The next verse
asks, "For if a man know not how to rule his own house,
how shall he take care of the church of God?"
Being a teen
or young adult does not give one license to rebel against the
wishes of one's parents, and by extension against the Lord.
Rebellion is to be expected in the non-Christian world and we
are not to be of that mindset. Jesus said in John 15:14
"Ye
are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."
Jesus is
also very clear that obedience to God's Word is the test of
whether someone loves Him. John 14: 23-24
"Jesus
answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep
my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto
him, and make our abode with him.
He that
loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye
hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."
