Taking the Name, The Mark The Number:

Putting It Together

It should be very obvious that no Christian could take a mark, chip or tattoo or any other thing in their forehead, hand or arm.

However, that thinking is being usurped by the false doctrine found throughout CNP member Tim LaHaye's un-Biblical Left Behind fictional series.

People are being duped into thinking that if they have the Holy Spirit they can actually take the mark. Unbelievable, except far too many go by what they are told the Bible says, instead of reading it themselves.

Christians must be careful to use the correct Name of our Saviour and the Father in light of the fact that prophecy has been corrupted in modern translations. Notice the difference in translations of the verse that prophetically speaks of the Name with which God sealed the 144,000 in the book of Revelations. The King James Bible states that only the Father's name is written in their foreheads, while the modern versions state that two names will be used. It cannot be both ways.

Revelation 14:1-

In the KJB " . . . having his Father's name written in their foreheads."

In the NIV " . . . who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads"

In the Gideons 1986 NT ". . . having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads"

New Revised Standard ". . . had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads"

Many are misapplying that verse and making it that all Christians will have His name physically on their foreheads. Hence that is giving misguided permission to tattoo and so on.

It is also imperative to realize that there are three forms of allegiance to the beast besides open worship--the mark, or the name or the number of his name. However, the modern versions again change these very significant verses to be two issues, those being the name or the number of the beast's name. Of the various related verses, we shall also compare Revelation 13:15-17 in light of the Name.

In Strong's Concordance we find that the definition for "mark" in Revelation 13:16-17 applies exclusively to all references of "the mark" in the book of Revelation. This definition does not apply to the term "mark" as it is found in any other book of the Bible.

5480- charagma, (khar'-ag-mah); from the same as 5482; a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp (as a badge of servitude), or sculptured figure (statue):-graven image, mark.

5482- charasso-(to sharpen to a point, akin to 1125 through the idea of scratching)...

1125--grapho( graf-o); a prim. verb; to "grave", espec. to write; fig. to describe:-- describe, write(-ing,-ten) [Eng. Dictionary def.-- "grave" --Archaic. engrave; carve; sculpture. 2.impress deeply; fix firmly]

Something being scratched or etched, as a stamp, hardly sounds like a computer chip implant, but it could be. Especially when one evaluates the mark in relation to the number. Time will tell. As we consider the application of the Name, Mark and Number of the Beast, we note that Revelation 13:17-18 have also been altered in the new versions.

In the KJB "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

In the NIV " So that no one could buy or sell, unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast, or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

In the New Revised Standard "So that no one can buy or sell, who does not have the mark, that is, the name of the beast, or the number of is name." This calls for wisdom: let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred sixty-six."

We know that God alone can supply what is needed to comprehend the meaning of His Word and these verses in particular. Referring to wisdom, Proverbs 2:4-6 promises:

"If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. "For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."

The term, " 'count' the number of the beast", is of interest because, according to Strong's Concordance, this particular definition applies only to this verse of Scripture.

5585-- psephizo, (psay-fid-zo); from 5586: to use pebbles in enumeration, i.e.(gen.) to compute:--count

5586--psephos (psay-fos); from the same as 5584; a pebble (as worn smooth by handling), i.e. (by impl. of use as a counter or ballot) a verdict (of acquital) or ticket (of admission); a vote:--stone, voice.

5584 --pselaphao (psay-laf-ah-o) . . . (comp. 5586); to manipulate, i.e. verify by contact; to search for:--feel after, handle, touch.

By these definitions it would appear we are to search for and verify the meaning through counting or computing or adding together the digits which relate to "a man's number,"--- that number being "six hundred threescore and six." Why does the King James Bible write the number as six hundred, threescore and six, when other versions write the number as being 666? To determine this, we will be computing and verifying the factors which must be considered.

Strong's Greek Dictionary reveals the numerical definition for "six" is used for all verses in the New Testament (eg., Mark 9:2 and John 2:20) except for two verses, Rev.14:20 and 13:18.

1803 . . . hex..--a prim. numeral; six--six.

The Harvest Judgment in Revelation 14:20 has the only verse definition related to it's particular "six hundred". "And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs."

1812-- hexakosioi (hex-ak-os'-ee-oy) plur. ordinal from 1803 and 1540; six hundred-six hundred [Note: ordinal number is a number that shows order or position in a series. First, second, third, etc . . .]

1803 --hex--, a prim. numeral; six---six.

1540--hekaton ( hek-at-on) of uncertain affin; a hundred---hundred

The Greek definition that is related for "six hundred threescore and six" in Revelation 13:18 is also unique. It does not connect to any "six" numbers in any other verses in the New Testament. The fact that the definition for "six hundred threescore and six" uses the Greek Alphabet rather than the numerical "six" used in other verses helps one understand that these are not simply numbers, as the newer versions state i.e. 666., although that is the actual associated numeral.

5516-- chi xi stigma (khee xee stig'-ma); the 22d, 14th and an obsol. letter (4742 as a cross) of the Greek Alphabet (intermediate between the 5th and 6th) used as numbers; denoting respectively 600, 60 and 6, 666 as a numeral--six hundred threescore and 6.

4742--stigma (stig-mah);from a prim . . . stizo (to "stick", i.e. prick); a mark incised or punched (for recognition of ownership) i.e. (fig.) scar of service:--mark [Dictionary def. of "stick" is, " . . . pierce with a pointed instrument . . . set into or adorn the surface of . . . impose upon. . ." 1.]

'Stigma' is a Greek word that has been adopted into the English language, and which helps provide a clearer understanding of these meanings.

stigma--(stig-ma) n. . . . 1. a mark of disgrace; a stain or reproach on one's reputation. 2. a distinguishing mark or sign . . . 6. Archaic. a special mark burned on a slave or criminal [<L<Gk.] 2.

These definitions give greater credence to the application of the Mark via tattooing or branding, but again doesn't mean a micro-chip could be used. As we have seen, the Dictionary definition of "tattoo" is " . . . mark (the skin) with designs or patterns by pricking it and putting in colors . . . " and we learned in Part 2 that tattooing and branding are related. Historically, people have, "use[d] tattooing and scarification to indicate social rank and affiliation" and " . . . primarily as proof of ownership."

Marking the skin with a "stick" or "prick," is precisely how tattoos are applied. When we consider the combination of these word meanings, "a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp (as a badge of servitude)" which is thought "to indicate rank" but is really a "sign of disgrace," the true end-time scenario begins to emerge. Perhaps the "computer chip" propaganda has been diseminated to mislead the masses, who will believe that by avoiding the same they are free to receive God's special mark, which is really an occult symbol of blasphemy and disgrace.

Update: I received the following information from a reader. Clothing, people and animals are being 'chipped'. Some are using security as the issue. This reader noted.

"As a software engineer working with computers and working with the hardware I felt that I needed to enlighten you to a little bit of research information that you might have overlooked. The following is what you stated on your site:

When a microchip is going through it's stages of creation it is etched much like a circuit board is etched. The etching is what carries the signal throughout the "circuit board".

The sticking or pricking is similar to a needle sticking into the skin, or feeling the prick of the needle in your skin....

As someone who is always on the cutting edge of technology, I find it hard to believe that in order to buy or sell you would need to have a tattoo or a marking of some sort on your skin. That is not in vogue to my generation or the one after when it comes to technology.

Having a chip that can store your financial information is something that my generation would most likely use. It eliminates the need for multiple credit cards, debit cards, check book and cash. Have you ever watched the episode of Seinfield where George has an overloaded wallet? The chip itself is an RFID chip that transmits a small radio frequency to a receiver in close proximity.

I wouldn't rule out the microchip. I would actually look more into the microchip and look at it's potential."

End Update

The following excerpt from the May 1999 newsletter "Yavoh is Coming", whose editor is Monte Judah, is a good example of such disinformation.

"Oh, by the way, did I mention that God intends to do something really special with about 144,000 Sons of Israel during the Great Tribulation. You will note that it is not 144,000 Jews that are to be called. Jews are considered to be the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. The other nine tribes are called the House of Israel. Therefore, the 144,000 are called "Sons of Israel," not Jews. I heartedly recommend that all believers in these days find out who you are and who you believe in. I am afraid there will be a whole bunch of folks meeting Gabriel face-to-face, getting the seal in their foreheads and being very confused. Many will say, "But, I'm not a Jew." And we will have to explain that they are of Ephraim and that they have been joined together with Jews to become one in the hand of the Lord. The day sequence of their sealing will determine which tribe they are representing." 3.

What greater disgrace could there be than worshiping and taking the mark, name and number of the anti-christ -- the ultimate blasphemy, totally rejecting God for Satan? Through Scripture we know that the anti-Christ will be steeped in the occult and blasphemy. Daniel 11:36-39 reminds us:

". . . and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, . . . Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers . . .for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not . . . "

A man named Eric Jewel sent me the following email in which he recounts his experiences on the Left Behind forum.

The Left Behind Series

"Are Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins Herding Christians Into Acceptance of the N.W.O. and the Mark of the Beast?

...The story begins about a year ago when I began to uncover and expose the relationship between Tim Lahaye, co-author with Jerry Jenkins of the Left Behind Christian fiction series, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, and U.S. Intelligence agencies. What resulted from this was the 4 part series "Christianity and the N.W.O. The Unholy Alliance".

During this time, Jenkins frequented Tyndale publishing's official "left behind" message board. For various reasons I had several debates with him in his "author's forum". There was the discussion of Lahaye’s relationship with Rev. Moon and intelligence personnel, which was at first denied until I began to publicly produce the evidence of these relationships, and then little by little individual facts were admitted to while still denying the relationship.

This was only part of the story however, and as Paul Harvey would say, and now for... the rest of the story.

While in the process of discussing and debating the merits of Lahaye’s relationship with US intelligence and the cult leader Rev. Moon, a second debate arose. This second debate could very well shed more light on the agenda of the authors and many of our religious leaders and their strange relationships with a man claiming to be messiah and the intelligence community.

The Chang Scenario

Introduced into the series we see a character by the name of Chang. According to the series, Chang hangs with the hated Christians. At the same time however, he is living in a society, which is administering the Mark of the Beast, and imprisoning, torturing, and killing those who have confessed Christ. He rides the fence and though he had not received the mark as yet, neither had he confessed Christ. The reason he gives for not receiving the mark is that it looks "painful". His father takes him to a medical facility where he is given the mark. Feeling doomed, he then finds his Christian friends who inform him that since he had been marked first by God, (???) the mark of God overcame the mark of the beast and he was now bearing both marks. Being somewhat brought up in an evangelical church, this was certainly struck me as a strange comment coming from 2 men who assume the roles of teachers.

The same bible that Lahaye and Jenkins claim to be teaching is very clear concerning the mark of the beast and the fate of those receiving the mark. It is the book of Revelation, chapter 13 that warns:

[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
[17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
[18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (666)

It is this very passage that even non-Christians stand on when here on this site and many more some are sounding off concerning VeriChip and Digital Angel warning that this will indeed progress until it becomes mandatory thereby becoming the mark of the beast.

Though Lahaye is closely associated with Rev Moon and US intelligence through the organizations he founded such as the CNP, he is also a political activist and helped co-found the Pre-Trib Research Center (PTRC). He is hailed by many Christians as a prophecy scholar, so ignorance of the scriptures cannot be an excuse for leading the Christian right into such justification for taking the mark or "getting Chipped". Could it be that the bible he claims to believe is vague concerning this issue? Again, and this is why so many are raising their voices about VeriChip, His bible and mine are very clear concerning the fate of those who will be "chipped".

Rev.14

[9] And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

[10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

[11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

There are several other passages as well which are just as descriptive.

Has this premise effected the church?

Five years ago, if anyone in the church had been asked if they could bear both the mark of the beast and the mark of God, I would have felt confidant that no one in the church who knew anything about Revelation would have endorsed such an idea. The sad truth is however that there are now many on Tyndale's Left Behind message board have began to accept the idea that if they or someone "left behind" are chipped they will be just fine because they were marked by God first. Given the popularity of the series in the western world, it could be conjectured that the Church is indeed being primed to accept that they can be "chipped" and still be spiritually safe because they were marked by God first. As strange as it may sound coming from such men Jenkins has actually stated this.

The questions I am raising here are not theological. Even many people of other religions are warning about VeriChip. The questions I am raising are more of the conspiratorial nature. Let's examine a few points that few will argue against.

#1 There are people of many differing belief systems who would agree that we are living in what is commonly called "the last days".

#2 There are many who believe that the worlds leaders, including and especially our own, have sold out constituency and have been knowingly leading us into a New World Order.

#3 In order to usher in a one world government it is absolutely necessary to bring in as many individuals as possible from every segment of society.

For instance, if only Republicans were bringing in the N.W.O., the Democrats would rebel against it and there would be quite a scrap and too much time, effort and expense would make it a fruitless effort that in the end, even many N.W.O. pundits would condemn. It is necessary for republicans, democrats, and independents to back entering into the N.W.O. If it only included the non-religious, then the religious would rebel on a large scale and likely prolong its ushering in, if not completely defeating it. So yes, especially taking into account that much of the western world calls itself Christian, it is an absolute necessity to bring in the bible believer, as well as a majority from every religion possible for the smoothest of transitions.

Bearing these common sense facts in mind the next logical conclusion is that it is necessary to infiltrate the leadership of the church. From pulpits, to cemetar... I mean seminaries, to councils, to religious books. The church attendee has for 2000 years been commonly called "sheep" because they follow the teachers of the scriptures. It is necessary to the agenda of the N.W.O. that they be given leaders who practice the art of "appearing" to expound on the teachings of Christianity, while in reality they are leading them into acceptance of a one world government and the acceptance of "getting chipped". What is the reward to those who take these leadership positions? Reverend Moon gives gold watches, all expense paid trips, and most formidably hard cash. The left behind series has netted the authors well over 10 million dollars apiece, and this figure was a few books ago. Since then Lahaye and Jenkins have renegotiated their contract with Tyndale, and you can be assured it wasn't because they felt they were receiving too much money.

...

These men were behind the scenes planning and carrying out the dirty work since the Nixon administration, and their efforts have been untiring. If it can be said that the agenda of the United States is the bringing in of the N.W.O. then it can certainly be said that these men have all been instrumental in it's shaping. Just 1 decade from the time Lahaye formed the ACTV (another conservative religious activist organization) and much less than a decade from the time he helped found the CNP, he teamed with Jenkins to begin the left behind series.

Could this be the reason that when Jenkins was faced with this statement, "It is not my assertion that one with the mark would be lost, it is God's", his reply was "I disagree"?"

Commenting on Mr Jewel's email I responded with this: A couple of thoughts. I dealt with a couple who had been Satanists and had pentagram tattoos, etc on their torsos, etc. They read my article on Taking the Name the Mark and the Number and wondered if after receiving Christ, were they still condemned because they bore the mark of satan. Interesting question.

One can’t take the mark of the beast if a Christian, but can someone repent before the forced marking? Obviously it’s not the same thing.

It’s also interesting in the concept of the verichip, etc. In my mind there’s no way a servant of Jesus Christ could take anything—tattoo, chip or anything in the forehead or in their right hand. However, the thinking of being sealed by God first and then taking the mark could very easily contribute more to the great falling away than one might think. In fact I address that concept in my mark article. It’s astonishing to me how easily people are accepting false doctrine and false teachers.

There are no non-religious people. Every single person has a religious belief. It doesn’t matter who they are. Even an atheist or the most morally liberal person in the world is religious. And yes all will accept and worship the beast. Only those who belong to Jesus Christ will not accept or worship him. Revelation:13 8

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

There will be no option but to worship it. And people need to fully understand there are 3 issues regarding the beast/mark. It is not just taking something in the forehead or hand.

It is also important to note that the Bible versions change the information, even regarding being sealed by God, which might be why some are accepting the idea that they can have both.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Update: August 24, 2003

Inspection of Isaiah 44:5 reveals these most important variations in Scripture concerning the mark, the name and tattoos.

Isaiah 44:5 in the King James Bible says,

"One shall say, I am the LORD'S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel."

The NIV reads: "One will say, "I belong to the LORD"; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, "The LORD'," and will take the name Israel."

The NASV, NIRV, NLT, ASV (in the footnotes), NWT, Bible In Basic English, RSV,  all have it.

The TEV (Good News Bible) has: "...They each will mark the name of the LORD on their arms..."

The Amplified Bible: "...and another will write [even brand or tattoo] upon his hand, I am the Lord's..."

JPS  Jewish Publications Society Bible "One shall say, "I am the Lord's"
Another shall use the name of "Jacob", Another shall mark his arm "of the Lord's" And adopt the name of "Israel"."

footnote on mark his arm - customary for slaves to be marked with owner's name
