"Ye Shall Be As Gods" ~Manifest Sons of God & Latter Rain

Matthew 24:21-23

"For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not."

George Warnock’s The Feast of the Tabernacles is considered the "handbook" for the Latter Rain, Joel’s Army and Manifest Sons of God teachings. Manifest Sons of God are viewed as perfected conquerors during the Great Tribulation. Warnock also taught that the Great Tribulation was actually a time of glory:

". . .day and hour of the manifestation of the Sons of God, when the Son Himself shall be unveiled in the hearts and lives of His many brethren." 9

Warnock believed the Great Tribulation would be darkness to one class of people but, not so "the Sons of God."

"It shall therefore be Great Tribulation, such as was never known from the foundation of the world; but it shall also be Great Glory. . .one class of people it shall be a day of 'darkness' and of 'gloominess.' But to the other, 'as the morning spread upon the mountains.' (Joel 2:2) To the one the Great Tribulation; but to the other, 'The Manifestation of the Sons of God.'" 10

Warnock explained that these 'Sons of God' will be benefactors, remembering that they too were once sinners. He then preempts the order of events and the coming of Christ with the Saints and teaches instead that this particular 'elite' class will become perfect and will experience no persecution during the Great Tribulation. Those who don't quite make it in their faith will be persecuted, but will obtain mercy and help from the Manifest Sons of God.

"Now we can understand how the overcomer in the Day of the Lord, when Great Tribulation is upon the earth, will be able to administer help and comfort and sustenance to God's people who are under oppression and persecution [WHICH THESE BELIEVERS WON'T BE UNDER!!] The Great Tribulation itself is going to be cut short because of the Sons of God. . .so the Sons of God, through the exercise of their royal priesthood, shall actually shorten the Great Tribulation. Jesus has declared that they would: 'For the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:22) The elect will have entered into a new priesthood, a royal priesthood. As priests, they will be able to present the needs of the people to God, and intercede for them; and as kings they will have the authority of God to dispense life and blessing to such as are in tribulation and distress. The world has had her day of kings and dictators. . .This new kingdom shall be a Priesthood;--a priesthood that "can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that out of the way," for they will remember their former afflictions. . .They shall not have forgotten that they too were once sinners, defiled in His sight, and poured out their complaints to God in bitterness of their sorrow. And therefore they shall reign as priests, co-heirs with the Son in the Kingdom of Grace." 11.

Jesus Christ said that His disciples would be persecuted -- with no exceptions -- as we have shown from Scripture in Persecution-Free Christianity. Negating Scripture, Rick Joyner communicates the same theme as George Warnock regarding the darkness, the glory and the Manifest Sons becoming benefactors. Joyner's article, "Y2K & The Church," which was posted last year on the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America web site, implied that Messianics will be the remnant of Israel -- a very special and elite group during the Tribulation Period.

"Darkness is one of the characteristics most associated with the last days. However, in this Scripture and others we see that even when 'deep darkness' comes upon the peoples (usually associated with the great tribulation), the Lord's glory will be rising upon His people to the degree that the nations will turn to them. The rest of the chapter is no less encouraging (verses 4-22): (look it up and read it now!)

"I think that we can also see from the text above, as well as from the entirety of Scripture, that our goal should be to seek the glory of the Lord, not to stash provisions. The glory of the Lord is what will attract the provision of the Lord in these times. In the coming darkness, the glory will stand out more than ever, and even the kings of the earth and the nations will turn to those who have it." 12

Jesus said in Luke 22:25-26 that His disciples are not to be known as benefactors:

"And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship it over them; and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve."

F. W. Grant's observation in "The Numerical Bible" that "benefactors" typically exhibit an overlording spirit appropriately refutes this elitist mentality of the modern prophets:

"The title of 'benefactor,' ('Euergetes') is that by which one of the Ptolemies is known in history and was often bestowed upon the Roman emperor. But this flattery was not to be among His disciples. . . Heaven is to be no place for the ambition of man. Can the disciples take up service to win lordship by it, and state and authority? That were surely impossible; nay, the greatest in heaven's Kingdom is he that humbleth himself as a little child (Matt. 18:4). In heaven's rule, Love rules; and therefore rule is service still, most valued because it is so." 13.

These "benefactor" teachings are found amongst promoters of the Pre-wrath Rapture teaching such as Ed Tarkowski and Tricia Tillin. Some of their associates like John Yonge teach that those who have prepared for the Tribulation by stockpiling, laying away gold or stocks, paying their taxes years in advance and generally behaving themselves will not be persecuted during the Tribulation. Jesus said in Luke 22:25-26 ". . .but ye shall not be so. . ."

Others promote the concept of believers being "Josephs," which of course locates their ancestry in the lost tribe of Ephraim. They are in fact echoing Bob Jones, Rick Joyner and George Warnock who say that only the elite and prepared will minister to the less fortunate believers, and that there will be great joy in going through the Tribulation.

Their particular promotion of Pre-wrath and also the Post- Tribulation Rapture teachings are necessary to dissolve the dispensational distinctions between physical Israel and the Church in the minds of believers. Having done this, change agents will attempt to elevate the Jews--particularly kabbalists who reject the Deity of Christ- to a position of equality with the Church, which in fact they desire to rule over. The "Church" or Body of Christ is comprised of Jews and Gentiles. Paul asked the question, Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

The answer was no, as very clearly salvation was offered to Jews and non-Jews, and both have partaken of Christ. But many also reject that truth.

Romans 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Kabbalist Avi ben Mordecai, who also teaches the "Hebrew Roots" to Christians and Messianics, states that Jewish teachers -- and eventually a Jewish high court -- should be put in place to teach believers and regulate their conduct through "Halaka", the body of traditional Rabbinic law as written in the Talmud and Midrash.

"As I see it today, Nazerean (Messianic) halacha should be in place to help us as a global  community of believers in Y'shua HaMashiach properly interpret the written code of Sinai for the community at-large. Not only is this good government (i.e., "the kingdom of G-d on earth") but this is also the commandment of Y'shua. . ."

"The council in Acts Chapter 15 led by it Nasi (Prince) Ya'acov HaTzadeq (James) and his Av Bet Din (Father of the House of Judgment) Kefa (Peter), was built on Y'shua's Mishnah and Gemara and on the principle that biblical Jewish government must include the halachic jurisdiction of a Bet Din or high court ( Mattityahu 18). Consequently, I believe we have the responsibility and privilege to establish another authority like the one recorded in Acts 15, and ideally, it should be seated in Y'rushalayim! "

". . .first century halacha is not what it used to be. Furthermore, since there is no official high court to represent the halachic interests of believers in Y'shua, what are we to do with our own disputes, judgments, and need for legal rulings? Do we turn to the established traditions of the Sephardim? [Kabbalists] The Ashenazim? [Mystics] The Conservatives or some other body of  Judaism? I believe that Judaism's ancient scholars and sages were far more knowledgeable on the Oral Traditions than we could ever hope to be. So, what do we do? Where do we stand today since we do not have our own high court and have not had one for nearly two millennia?" 41. " [Brackets added] 14   See: The Bible and the Talmud

A Christian woman who participated in Ed Tarkowski's Pre-Wrath Forum wrote her observations about this Process situation, in which appointed "facilitators" manipulate participants into accepting a new belief system -- the Post-Trib Rapture.  Sally Germer wrote:

"Jesus Himself delineated three groups. . .the Jews, the Church and the Gentiles.  Three groups experiencing different things.  One group flees; one is passive.  Different specific questions (end of age and consummation of the end, etc.) answered in different specific ways."

"The pre-tribulation belief was yet again brought up by Biff on Ed's forum to create controversy. David Liben answers brilliantly, but is not responded to according to his questions.  I discovered on the Last Trumpet forum (which Ed and Biff highly recommend) that the pre-tribulation belief must be squashed so as to avoid anti-Semitism."

"Also, the forum (Last Trumpet) says that Ephraim is the Church and Judah is the Jews. Together, we are one new man.  But, to them has been revealed many things which they cannot tell us yet. We are not ready But, soon we will "discover who we are". "

" They say that this is not British-Israelism which is complete replacement.  That's because this is only partial replacement.  At the heart is post tribulationism.  It must be promoted.  The tribulation is "Jacob's wrestling", and those who come out of it are really special."

"They "have a responsibility to show the saints" that "If ye are in Christ then ye are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."  "We have a responsibility to share that when we come into christ we come into the Lion of the tribe of Judah.  He is a Jewish Messiah and we are in Him!"

"Is that what Ed and Biff are surreptitiously trying to do?  Perhaps we are not ready yet.  They state WE ARE ISRAEL.  And, this is on the Last Trumpet website (Yeshua the King)."

"I suspect that pre-tribulationism will continue to be maligned until very few hold on.  It is also dispensationalism and pre-millenialism that they must discredit.  I just wish the people were astute enough to question Ed's recommended links along with his promotion of post tribulationism."

"It just seems to me that for a post-tribulation belief, you must be associated with Jacob, for the great tribulation is clearly "Jacob's trouble."  This is why the Post Tribulation people mostly also believe in the Hebrew Roots Movement.  The "two sticks" are the two Houses of Israel, which they say are Ephraim (Gentiles) and Judah (Jews)."

"They also covet the promises of Israel for an earthly inheritance.  And, they must go through tribulation to be qualified (as they say) for the end time rewards.  Ed even uses the term "Joel's army" which is not Scriptural.  They insist this is necessary, not knowing that the whole Christian life is one of tribulation, and when Jacob goes through his "trouble", we will be at rest."

Post-Trib and Pre-wrath proponents typically parrot Warnock's teachings that the Pre-Tribulation Rapture doctrine is merely "escapism."  Some teach that those who believe in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture will readily accept the Antichrist simply because they'll be (obediently) watching for "Christ" to appear. If Pre-Trib is true, then they won't be here to see the anti-Christ, and would not worship anything on this earth.

Pre-wrath and post-trib proponents, on the other hand, are watching for the appearance of the anti-christ, believing his appearance is the one to be yearned for. His appearance is the indicator for them that the time has arrived, or things will soon be done. But we don't know when any of that will happen and are commanded, to look for Christ. Hebrews 9:28 " So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." The focus is to be Christ, not what is happening around us. We're to be aware, and be about the Master's business, but our hearts desire is to be to see Him face to face, and desire His return.

Jesus expressly told his disciples to "watch ye therefore, and pray always, that they would be counted "worthy to escape'' all these things that shall come to pass. . ." [Luke 21:36]

Matthew 24: 43-44 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Paul spoke of a crown of righteousness which would be given to those who "love his appearing":

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing."  II Tim. 4:8

False prophets who disparage those who long to be out of this world in order to be with their Lord, are like their forefather, George Warnock, who actually stated in a chapter titled, 'The Churches False Hope,’ that such Christians are "carnal" and "earthly minded. He evaluated that  desire by those who believe in a Rapture of believers, not realizing that all Believers are to desire and yearn for our Saviors return.

"The Church of Christ is literally filled with carnal, earthly minded Christians who sit back in ease and self-complacency and await a rapture that will translate them out of the midst of earth's Great tribulation at the beginning of the Day of the Lord. . .vast majority of evangelical circles we are taught that any moment God's people shall be caught up, raptured, to be with the Lord in the air--to escape the Great tribulation. . .It is not true. . .we are nowhere taught that the saints are going to escape the hour of Great Tribulation by way of rapture. . ."  15

Some speculate that, if the rapture were to take place, Latter Rain teachers will explain the possible disappearance of Christians as merely the removal of "stumbling blocks" or "opposers" to the Manifest Sons of God, Joel's Army. That is also found in New Age teachings, although the wording and reasons are slightly different. Latter Rain doctrine teaches the perfection of Christians and the maturing of Christ, is "the Kingdom of God within you," ON THIS EARTH:

". . .God is hastening the day and hour of Christian perfection. We do not have it, nor have we seen it in any person anywhere at any time. . .We are speaking , rather of a life which is the very life of Jesus Christ reproduced in the fragile earthen vessels of this human clay. Our prayer, therefore should be as Jesus commanded, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, even as it is in Heaven." It is, first and foremost, the birth of the Kingdom of God in our own little earth, in the clay of our flesh; for the "Kingdom of God is within you. . ." It is the perfecting into maturity of the Christ who came into out hearts as the Seed when we received Him as our Savior. . .It is "Christ in you, the hope of glory," rising up unto maturity, and being "formed within you." (Gal. 4:19)"

". . .The Church may proclaim an imminent rapture as much as they will, and teach that at any moment the saints will be snatched away from earth to escape the gathering clouds of Tribulation. But this is not the teaching of God's Word. . .but this is not the "Appearing" of modern evangelical theology. This glorious Appearing must first of all be manifest in the saints. . .God is revealing the pattern of perfection. The Ascension gifts, the ministries in the Body of Christ--these are the means of perfecting the saints--. . .they are to remain in the Church till we all come into unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man!" 17

Hank Hanagraff of the Christian Research Institute and others advocate the Reconstruction of society through such venues as the Millstatt Forum, where the secular 'elite' of the world are expected to adopt the Christian belief system as their standard.

Is there any difference between the particular Pre-wrath or Post-Tribulation teaching of these misnamed "discernment ministries" and Rick Joyner who teaches a slightly different form of Post-Trib Dominionism? As for king's and heads of state revering this Joel's Army as the "dread army of the Lord", we suspect that those who entertain these delusions of worldly grandeur are the "carnal, earthly minded" types rather than those who wait for the Bridegroom's return.

Jesus stated in Matthew 10:22, that His disciples will be hated: "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved."

The only mention of a 'dread army' doing signs and wonders that is called upon by presidents and kings in the last days is found in Revelation 16:13-14:

"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."
